So, another much heated debate. I have nothing much to add. Just my my little 0.02 dollars. Computers are like cars: you have to use them to go from A to B, you have got to maintain them in a good working order, and it's going to give you some good service. The PC/Mac discussion always turns sour with each side getting very, very, very emotive. Please, grow up. I basically am a Mac User. I grew up liking this kind of computer because I did lose less time trying to find why it did not work (or it's only my perception ?). Less pain, more pleasure is the directing principle in here. What I use on the mac is the full fledged kit of graphical tools, be them 3d or animation stuff (I might not use them to the full extent of their possibilities...), plus the usual business stuff. I use some pc's here, though, not powerful ones, but machines ok for the basic tasks at hand (word processing, business stuff, a bit of Photoshop/Painter, even a bit of Poser too, Internet surfing and downloading, html dabbling). A little bit less attractive to me, but they work. I admit I spend more time with the head under the hood with my pc's than with my macs. PC's need a wee bit more physical maintenance than macs, and the sofware to me seems less stable thant on the mac (but it might only be my perception, remember...) In both worlds, you have got to modulate the OS for the task at hand and the memory requirements (not to mention disk space, and the used program version). Most of the major programs developers have ported them on both platforms very successfully (maybe less true in the 3D realm...though...). So what's the problem ? If you're happy to use a Mac, then fine, use it and stop the bitchin' about the Wintel users. Same goes with PC users. Hardware and software are TOOLS, first and foremost, and not status symbols. Yasser and Ariel have hordes adopting their self-righteous attitudes, and this is not a pretty sight. Please stop the insanity... I'm happy to be a Mac user because I feel I can get results (or: get things done) faster with a Mac than with a PC. But if you are PC user and just feel the same about your relationship with your machine then fine. 'nuff said, back to lurking... Purplehayes
Thread: Poser works in Mac OS X 10.2 Classic Environment! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hello all... Concerning the latest Poser 4 problem with OS X: Poser 4.0.3 and Poser Pro pack seem to work just fine in my Jaguar configuration (in Classic mode). PurpleHayes
Thread: How many people use Mac OS X with Poser 4? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Re-hello all ! I was not saying that my way of doing things was the best (i.e. repartitionning disk and cleaninstalling the OSes and stuff) but it is mine and works well everytime the 'puter does the nasty. As for Classic operation within OS X with any 3D prog, it slows things a bit to my perception compared with the clean operations from a Mac OS 9 disk (I run on an eMac G4 700 mHz, 384 Mb Ram, 40 Gb hd partitioned 25 for OS X and 15 for OS 9). I may not have enough Ram for easy operation, but that's another problem. And maybe it's just because I just quite don't get it when they say this is preemptive multitasking and that is not the same as it was before...did I hear "resistance to change" ? Maybe a cultural gap to fill... So, that maybe it. And yes, Poser is a bad citizen in the Mac world to my sense... From a guy who got acquainted with Poser on a Performa 6200, PPC 75 mHz, 64 Mb ram, 8 Gb hd... (as you can see, no As Shanin clothing, gothic prison freebies...nothing more than 900 X 900 tex maps for posette, and yes, almost exclusively using posette...no render yet upped here because I dont feel worthy...just playing around) PH

Hello Supergirl Sadly enough, Poser 4 is not "carbonized", meaning it won't work in native OS X environment. However, it will run in Classic mode (Jaguar might not keep the MacOS 9 folder into the same partition as was the case for the preceding version of Mac OSX, but it will detect if there is any OS 9 present in any of your other partitions...) So that means...partition your hard drive, clean install your version of Mac OS 9 on one partition and clean install the Mac OS X on the other (you have got to have plenty of disk space, and also, more than the required 128 Mb of ram). Install your favorite programs, and when it's done and you're ready to play, double-click on Poser 4. Classic mode will launch as soon as you double-click on the Poser program icon, and you are going to be able to go at it as you like. When I want to dabble in Poser, though, I restart with my my Mac OS 9 partition (Jaguar might be fast, but nothing compared to the performance of Mac OS 9 for any G3 G4 machine). And, added benefit given sufficient disk space, I can crank up the virtual memory (it may slow down things a bit, but gets some jobs done that otherwise couldn't) Hope it helps... PH

I tend to share Maclean's thoughts on art (including the one on stockholders). Maclean, your text on art is well done given this format (the average posting). Take heed: at least Mac is still extending the hand to reach out to Tisa and not giving her bullshit. Those who try to get Tisa to prove anything are...how to say it ?... (A term that won't show contempt or insult, yet a term that definitely shows I'm not sharing their opinions...I'm looking for that term...) ...Immature ? Yup, I stick to that word ! My little 0,015 american dollar... (canadian 2 cents) Purplehayes PS: To Maclean: great page, easy to navigate, original presentation, well optimized illustrations.

Penguinisto: About Virtual PC: I don't know for you, but my sad little experience with that emulator tells me not to ever think about trying to run a CPU intensive app like Poser 4 or 5; I just wanted to throw the 'puter out the window (no pun intended) after installing and trying to run Ubisoft Scrabble(what are those jackets with very long, very very long sleves for ? Not easy to type with these on: in fact, I'm typing with my nose...). And it's not because I run a low end mac (mine's an eMac, 700 mHz, about 400 Mb ram, 40 Gb rom, etc.), though it could maybe take another 512 Mb of ram easily . As for the boot floppy, again, you'd probably need to get the Mac OS running with that kind of clone machine (8.0-8.5, maybe even 9.0-9.1 ?) in a rebootable CD form. Given you have the correct system CD and an internal CD-rom drive working properly (not mentioning the 'puter running properly), all you have to do is to hold the key C while rebooting with the system CD in. I hope this helps (if you have the correct configuration, of course) Purplehayes
Thread: P4NW feet mapping | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hello everyone, a quick reply... Thank you sooo much for your advice...I'm not quite sure about the trick I'll use yet, but I'll tell you later. I have UVmapper and I use it when I can, but the way to get to the surface I wanted to edit was quite arcane. Thanks Jeff and gstorme. As for April, I have d/lded the P4V skin about a month ago from the freestuff, the option to use a vicky tex was considered, but technically, the other way around is a greater challenge (the image is the ultimate goal, but learning more on Poser can't be beat). And BTW, thanks a great lot for such a useful tool as "the skin" (I had bad mapping problems with it the first times I used it until I found I did not convert it correctly in Maconverter...most of the times the problem is sitting in the front of the 'puter... :-))) ) Thank you so much all... Thread: Eve 4 texture problem | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I tried it this morning, and inadvertently got the same results...until I found out that Poser loads the default P4fem or woman texture for Eve...check in your "textures for Eve" (or whatever name it's got) folder for the "NEW P4 nude woman" texture, and load it in the materials dialog in the textures setting for the skin. The genitals have been removed from this body texture because you have to apply a special map (genmap) for the labia and vagina on Eve, so if you forgot to load the special body and geniatls map, the painted genitals show. I just hope it helps. You have got to be patient, attentive and frustration-proof. Most of the time the problem is sitting in the front of the 'puter. :-)) purplehayes
