Oh, here's the URL where you can find the latest version of MPE and the tutorial. I've got a question too: do the P4 MATs use .BUM or some other (like JPEG) bump maps? If they link to .BUM files then MPE will plug the bump maps to the Gradient Bump channel and won't change the bump strength. But if the bump map is in any other format it will be plugged to the Bump channel and the bump strength will be adjusted for P5.Thread: Microsoft Security Bulletin | Forum: Community Center
Damn it's easy to cause a buffer overrun on Windows systems. Until now we've seen tons of little patches for IE, Media Player, Outlook Express, Winamp etc. to prevent buffer overrun, but finally it looks like there's going to be protection from that kind of exploits on hardware (CPU) level. Which of course means even if the software is vulnerable the CPU won't let the buffer overrun happen. Anyway, it's good to be on Linux (though I still use Windows too). A couple of months ago there were some serious attempts to hack some Linux servers using ssh. Well, that wasn't very successfull as the hacking scripts were trying to guess the root password. If that's the best way to break into a Linux system I feel pretty safe.

First, make sure you have MPE 3.1.3 beta 3. Then read the Tutorial called "Configuring MAT Pose Edit 3", especially the part about bump strength. I admit that it's not that great a tutorial but I tried my best. If you're loading and saving the files one by one, make sure that you choose Poser 5 format in the Save Options. If you're using the batch converter you don't have to worry about that.
Thread: What do you think of Poser 5 ? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Right now most of my projects use P5 features so heavily that it would be almost impossible to create the same for the old limited Poser 4. My modified P4 Man for example (attached image, still a WIP) uses displacement mapping for the geometry details, which means fast rendering, and no need for high-poly models. I couldn't get the same result with morph targets.
If you're animating characters with clothes on (yeah right, like anyone would do that!), you'll love dynamic clothing. You can convert most conforming clothes into dynamic ones, and new clothes are easy to create because no frustrating poserizing is needed... and you can make most pieces of clothing fit many different characters. I don't have "Vicky clothing", "Judy clothing", "Mayadoll clothing", etc. in my library, just clothing.

I wouldn't be suprised if the ATI drivers affected the slowdowns. Those drivers are really bad... in fact they shouldn't even be compatible with my new 2.6 kernel, but I got them installed using a script I found somewhere. However ATI is working on better drivers so I haven't lost hope.

I tried Outlook Express and it ran just fine. But I can't get any viruses via e-mail because the mails are scanned and cleaned when they reach the mail server. It would be interesting to see how a Windows virus works under Crossover Office. Looks like there's now only one problem with running D|S on Linux, slow emulation speed. Sure, Crossover Office runs plenty of Windows apps, I could even play Fallout 2... but it's slow. D|S responds better if I give the process a higher priority (which I think is weird because nothing heavy is running in the background). Of course I must not forget that cxoffice is geared towards running software that doesn't eat a lot of system resources. Anyway, I'm probably going to uninstall my trial of cxoffice so that I can use WineX. I'm all excited now that I got the damned ATI Radeon drivers installed. Now I can finally run Quake 3 and UT2004 on Linux, and a lot of Windows games under WineX. Unfortunately ATI's Linux drivers suck, and I get lower fps than on Windows. Anyway, I'm confident that the next drivers will be better.

I guess I'll have to check out that 3dto3d, sounds promising.
Oh, just in case you're feeling a bit sick because of my creative use of Crossover Office... no worries, I was just testing if it would really run IE =)

Damn, looks like my line breaks don't work. Must be Konqueror's fault, gotta switch to Firefox...

I could swear I've seen a free version of Poser 3 bundled with a magazine. Anyway, if you're not interested in paying I suggest you try DAZ Studio.
Thread: Another good reason not to use Internet Explorer | Forum: Community Center
Only a couple of weeks ago I switched from IE to Firefox, but not because of security issues. Though my hardware is up to date IE just was too slow and heavy. Apparently IE consists of parts scattered all over my C drive, which makes the damn browser respond slowly if the hd is a little fragmented. Also, the amount of RAM IE eats is horrible. I like to have multiple browser windows open simultaneously, which means multiple iexplore.exe applications running at the same time, reserving 17MB+ RAM each! Firefox on the other hand needs only one exe running. Too bad I only tested my personal web site with IE. When I switched to Firefox I noticed that the site doesn't look right with any other browser.

Same here about the Turbo Pascal/Delphi != Pascal thing
I made my first programs with Turbo Pascal and it annoyed me when people told me that Pascal is only a toy created for educational purposes and you can't do anything serious with it.
