Poser 5 handles this much more ably than 4 did. If you're stuck with 4, then I'd strongly recommend PBoost. It's inexpensive ($20) and well-supported by the creator.

What program are you modeling it in? It loks like you're using NURBS modeling, which will give you a pretty high poly count, especially if you do it more than once. What is the poly count? I don't usually have problems with counts lower than 60,000 or so.

I have a lot of DAZ stuff as well as gigs of third party free and commercial stuff for Poser 4. Even the most complex and specialized models I have seem to work just fine with P5. This includes Easypose stuff, slaved morph controls, everything. I, for one, am very very happy with P5 as compared to P4, particularly its file management and the fact that it doesn't go apesh!t every time you're missing a texture or geometry.

I'm amazed at the unique ability of artists to simultaneously rail against those who presume to say what is or isn't art while doing exactly the same thing to others. "Piss Christ" is art, but Vicky in a Temple isn't. "Duct Tape, Paste, and Crap I Found in My Apartment" is art, but a Bryce Landscape isn't. I wonder how prolific Pollock or Mondrian would have been had they listened to what other people considered "art." On the other hand, i agree with Legume. :)

sniff I remember the day I fell into this evil trap. It seemed innocent enough. I worked at an entertainment trade paper. Somebody got sent a copy of Bryce 3D for review, but it was a PC version, so they gave it to me. Then ... a flyer with a woman on the trapeze ... a limited-time offer from Metacreations for I.T. professionals ... oh, God, why? Platinum Club ... PoserWorld ... MY GOD WILL IT EVER STOP? "What do you mean you want a gift certificate to DAZ.com for your birthday? What's DAZ?" "Here, let me show you ..."

Thanks much. I was actually using your tutorial as my primary reference, but it didn't spell out the rotation axes (helped a lot with the zone thing, though. So, for example, a thigh would typically be yzx? a shoulder would be xyz? a wing attached to that shoulder would also be xyz? a head on a long neck would be yxz? Also, do you find that you have to make a lot of joints global falloff? I seem to have to do it to nearly everything.
