Hmm, the default formula is a rainbow effect. Did you hit the Parse button after making changes? Here's a Pic of my shader (keep in mind that some of the formula is cut off).

I haven't been able to log in from home since Saturday. I can't figure out what's wrong. I wrote the admins to see if they'd have any suggestions. I'm sure the problem is on my end. But hey, that meant I had more time for some modeling. I had an idea while stuck in traffic, and will post the results here soon. It'll be a poser "figure", modeled in Carrara. Still fine-tuning some joints on my Cring, and looking into adding some morph targets. With luck I'll have two things to offer in the "Free Stuff" section soon. VIVA LA CHEDDAR

Well, the corners are screwed up, and I never went back to fix it. I came to Carrara via POV-Ray, which is all formulas. Also, my art background is technical drawing. Anyway, if I had been able to use descriptive variable names, my formula probably would make more sense (there is apparently a limit to how many character you can enter in the box).

Chip, I think your pyramids look better than mine, as the formula I used didn't really work at the corners (it was more a formula experiment than a serious pyramid attempt).

Well, I tried to log in last night, but for some reason my home computer won't connect to renderosity. I could surf anywhere, except here. Haven't figured out why yet. Weird, huh? So, no cheddar chat.

Here's my pyramid with my formula shader experiment (not really right along the edges). This is the formula I used for the Blender channel under Color, which was also copied under the Bump channel, in case anyone wants to play with it. w=5; h=5; b=5; g=0.1; r=b*2+1; d=h/r; e=w/(b+0.5); f=(z/d)-floor(z/d); j=(f<=y))?1:0; r=(m/e)-floor(m/e); s=((r<=x))?1:0; value=j||s||q;

That, and sharing our favorite cheddar cheese recipes. Actually, I like these kinds of questions. It's really neat seeing all the different approaches. Do you suppose one could make a pyramid as a formula object? I was playing with simulating pyramid bricks ausing a formula shader a couple of months ago, but the object itself was a vertex object.

I agree, it's nice having the questions and answers to problems here in the forum for reference purposes. Still, I think having a chat link here is a fun idea, and I'll probably try it out tonight, since I will have the phone line all to myself. Of course, that will probably be past litst's bed time, so we will be able to talk about cheddar all we want, mwahahahahaha. --Terri

Would a vertex cube work? I mean, start with a cube, then weld the top four verticies together (I'm in Carrara, not sure if RayDream has the same sort of vertex modeller). --Terri

OK, I stole Litst's idea. I used his texture settings to color the Poser 4 dog obj. Instead of the tile function, I used the texture map generated by UV mapper. This image could stand a lot of tweaking, but it seems one could use this technique to make an interesting cyborg (or cydorg, in this case) effect. --Terri

I agree, hanging on the wall would have been a more interesting choice. I was going for lying flat on the countertop, as I was trying to hide the fact I wasn't sure how to texture it so that the sides look painted red, while keeping the wood finish from topside. I just saw the pig kind growing up, but I see more variety in shapes these days. Yo! Litst! What shape do they use in France? Cheese-shaped?

I don't cook enough to have kitchen objects to model. But, my mom has one of these cutting boards. Don't know how common they are, or if they're just a Midwestern thing.
