Okies, I just had a read through the tutorial and it makes sense, for the most part, except you did things a different way to me. And also I managed to get the text on both the inside and the outside of the Ring - pain in the a*** I can tell you.
And another difference is, I too originally used a torus+cylinder combination to get the Ring shape, but David recommended simply using a torus by itself as it will require less calculations during the final render.
But that was still a great tut, Thunderstone - between the two tutorials, people should have no trouble making the Ring now :)

Could I have a link of where the mini tut has been put please?

Edit: Not to worry - I found it. I didn't go through the main form to get to this thread, but an email link. [Link]

A great deal of the credit has to go to David Brinnen who helped me so much :D

No, I don't mind you taking the text mat. I ended up not using that one at all, and anyone can make it themselves. It's nothing special - you're welcome to it :)

I'm up to the stage of making the final renders now, so the offer of a mini-tut is appreciated but no longer necessary for myself. But dyret seems interested in creating the Ring as well, so if you wanted to make the tut, it could be for the benefit of others?

I had some help with some different settings, besides the transmap, as I'm doing something different with the lighting, and David is showing me some different features in Bryce that veteran users are probably aware of.
To correct my transmap, so it lines up in the center of both the inner and outter rims of the Ring, it was a lot of trial and error with editting my .jpg image of the text. It was a personal preference; to adjust the placement in Bryce, or do it in Photoshop- I chose Photoshop because I'm more confident in that.
Once my Ring is finished, I'll post it and you can decide then if you still want me to give you the settings and demensions and such.

Sure, I'd be happy to post what I've made, with a caption of the settings.
I'm only making the Ring, without the platform it's sitting on, as I'm using the Ring to be printing it onto a t-shirt. Will this be alright?

Parametric mapping is also the default mapping option. I hadn't needed to change to Parametric.
I do not see a page 3 of comments, only the last comment is rather long, talking about how the tutorial misses key elements in the tutorial that beginners would not understand, such as getting the transmap to work. I can't gleam anything helpful from that map.
Not to worry though- I've gotten David Brinnen from over at DAZ and he's helping me get my Ring looking as it should.

Thanks for your suggestion; I'll try a different mapping. If I still don't have any luck, I will post over at the DAZ forums.
I basically tossed a coin, to decide if I should post my question here at Rendo, or over at DAZ. Here won, since this is where the tutorial was posted. :)

Thanks, Ohki. I'll give it a try and see what happens. I'll post back if I have any questions (which I expect I will have a tonne) and see how I go. I expect it will take me a while to get anywhere- much to learn as I go along. :)

Thanks, Ohki that in depth explanation made much more sense to me. I understood that the dynamic cloth hair required the strips of polygons to make up the hair, compared to the creating the strands in Poser, but little more than that didn't quite sink in.
From your description, dynamic cloth hair is not something that I will be attempting any time soon- it requires a lot more fiddling around than making the hair in Poser. The fact I haven't got a program like Hexagon quite yet is also a consideration.
@BionicRooster - thanks for the link. It was actually Joe's videos on youtube with that hair that got me thinking of how to make the render I'm working on better, with the wind force tool. That was a hidden little gem I wasn't aware of Poser possessing (I always wondered how people's renders had such a realistic wind-blown effect)
But this leads me to another question: Joe's videos are using dynamic cloth hair with the wind-force option. Will dynamic hair behave the same way with fly-away hair when the wind-force is calculated?
Looking for the skull caps mentioned that I need to try and make this hair myself, the only link I could find that wasn't V3M3, was this one: Royalty Free Skull Caps
Is this correct?
Thanks for everyone's help! It's appreciated :)

falls off chair laughing Attach something to the tips of those bangs, and they could double as antennae. That's if Poser could get as far as rendering such an image... Photo-realistic in Poser... I think the screen would crack! giggles

I don't know how to make any sort of hair, dynamic or otherwise. Hence the reason for this thread :) But I'm confused: dynamic hair isn't the same as dynamic cloth hair?

snickers Advent Children is the only version of Sephiroth that I'm familiar with (not really a FF fan, but my brother gave me the Advent Children dvd, which I enjoy (music is fantastic)) But I think I know which image you're talking about; insanely raised bangs and a huge part between the bangs which really looks like he is going bald.
I don't know much about how to make hair, but I do know what I find easiest to work with. You're right, the dynamic hair does seem heaps easier to work with.
I was thinking perhaps the dynamic cloth hair would be the way to go, because I've found I've more luck with making them cooperate with the wind-blown effect, but I don't know how difficult the dynamic cloth's are to design; easy to use might equate to a b**ch to make.
Thread: New to Poser Pro 2010 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
No, this isn't one of them- my V4 and Morph++ installers were looking for Poser.exe when I was trying to install them into Poser Pro 2010 instead of DAZ Studio 3.
The issue is resolved now. But thanks anyway.
