Just be aware that if you export 16 bit images from Substance or Quixel suite (default in both cases I believe), you're not going to get those files into Poser unless they're tif format or you change the depth to 8 bit (for PNG, JPG,etc).

Y is up in Poser, so I'd use ZBrush's default settings for normal map creation (do not flip the green channel). You should be Ok. If you're using Substance or Quixel suite, export OpenGL normal maps, not Direct X

Scifi3d's been around a long time. I once did some star wars stuff for them back in my Rhino days. I don't think anything on their site is stolen. They made a point of recruiting folks to make things.

So here's the deal. It seems there's a bug in the way Poser sometimes handles normals. It doesn't always show up but it has been around awhile. We've recently discovered it thanks to a similar issue on the new figures. It's something we're working to resolve but it has been my experience that in many cases the issue is not with the model (though sometimes it is, which makes it harder to narrow down). So if you're seeing a black spot on your mesh in Poser but not in any other program, it may be a Poser error...or not. Which isn't really helpful, I know but I wanted to let you know our programmers are looking into it.

Comparing render times at this stage is kind of like guessing what's in a gift by the sound it makes when you shake it. You could do it but when it's time to open the gift, you'll find you were wrong.

I think the material room is still WIP so I'm not gonna show that right now. Sorry. If I find that I'm allowed next week, then I will.

That looks very nice to me! Are you allowed at this time to talk about the lighting? Was this done with Poser's spotlights or do we have to mess with emitters?
Thanks gang. I used three area lights, a backdrop I made in silo, the clothing I made for the character (and obviously the textures I made to go with those) and then of course, the figure itself. That's about it. Area Lights are an awesome addition to Poser and work much better (in my opinion) than regular ambient emitters.

This thread is supposed to be about the new render engine in Poser 11. Please keep it on topic and stop derailing into all these other aspects that have not been brought up by Smith-Micro yet, as it just creates a breeding ground for more arguing and hostility.
There is nothing to discuss. Nerd3d vanished, leaving the poor Teyon to not-respond (since he appears not to have been cleared to state even if he is alive or dead) and bagginsbill confirmed that at least currently only the previous FireFly nodes are avalable (therefore critically crippling what you can do with the renderer). Since it is August, people are on vacation so, even in the most optimistic hypothesis, nothing can come before early September.
I'm alive. I have a bit more duties than just posting renders, I'm afraid. :D I will be doing some more this week. For now, here's one I've posted everywhere else weeks ago but not here...mostly because I just thought it'd be lost in the shuffle. It's a morph I did for Rex last year. The skin texture is my own skin map mixed with Rex's in Photoshop. Please forgive the eyes...I didn't know how to make a cornea material at the time of the render. Also keep in mind, I'm not much of a texture artist but people wanted to see a Poser character rendered. Here ya go. -T

For non-PBR related stuff you may be better off using Firefly, which is partly why it's still around. That said, there probably is a way to do it, I have not experimented with Toon Line shading at all.

There's a couple of things that you're going to notice with the preview, one being a new shading mode for the scene. Beyond that, no I can't talk about it.
Thread: Poser 11 Sneak Peek | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I've spent years developing Firefly shaders and settings that give me great results, BUT FAST.
So the only reason I'd have for using another render engine would be if it would give me the same, or better results, EVEN FASTER.
Without GPU support, all the PBR renderers are glacially slow, including Cycles.
So, even IF I'd buy PP-2016 (A very big "IF", given the information I currently have), I'd never use a "crippled" Cycles anyway.
Like I never used that "Fitting room" in PP-2014. (I do all my cloth conversions manually for maximum quality)
Besides, why the heck would people want to use a PHYSICALLY BASED RENDERER that was explicitely built to achieve PHOTOREALISTIC results when there is no PHOTOREALISTIC FIGURE in sight to use it on?
All those shortcomings and poor workmanship of the current Poser and older DAZ figures will stand out even more.
Actually, I don't think even Vicky 7 is photorealistic enough to be subjected to the harsh realism of a PBR renderer.
So, again, the only reason I can see for a new renderer, given the style of semi/quasi realistic renders most people prefer, would be MORE SPEED.
Or a set of photogrammetry based figures with such realistic shapes and rigging, that they'd be actually "worthy" of a PBR renderer.
(But even then MORE SPEED would not hurt. Not in a world where we can have photorealistic realtime graphics in games now)
In other words, after full Genesis compatibility, professional quality native Poser figures, real instancing for outside scenes, much improved transparency handling to at least better "fake" outdoor scenes, a better hair engine and better rigging tools, a "recycled" PBR render engine that is crippled right from the start, is pretty much the least attractive new "feature" I could think of that would make me want to invest my $$$ into Poser again.
You know, Joe...Pixar and DreamWorks use PBR in a lot of their films. Last I checked, they don't do photorealistic characters. Just sayin'. Don't mean to pick a fight but being a creative person I would think other creative people would find more than just one use for the render engine.

Simply: A lot. Not everything we hoped would, but still a lot. I can't say more than that yet. More will be revealed as time progresses and some of these things get to stages we can publicly show. The render engine is probably the easiest thing to show off because of the immediacy of it. You hit render, you get an image. Other stuff takes a bit more testing before it's ready for public consumption but rest assured, there are other things to be excited about. Just can't talk about them yet.

The wood is a texture set, not procedural.
Just confirming this. The only thing that is remotely procedural is the tiling effect. :) I built this texture through a combination of Substance Designer, Bitmap 2 Material and Quixel Suite. The bare wood tiles a little better than the varnished one right now. When I have some time I will go back and edit the varnish so that a dark scratch that noticeably repeats doesn't anymore. I do have a procedural wood texture I made loosely following a tutorial for Cycles on You Tube. That's the wood in the wine image I posted earlier.
