Oh crap. Right after I wrote that I discovered you have to install that "packaging" package and you might not be able to in Poser Python.
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

We could literally answer your questions about goofy floats but first let's decide if that rabbit hole is worth ANY of the grief. I suggest instead that you deal with version strings using the dedicated, properly designed features of Python for this. Have a look.

LOL
AkemiYoshida - this thread is from 2016, and the "good pc" described in arrow1's signature (which is hard to tell is a signature and not text appearing in the original post) didn't exist then. Notice the NVIDA RTX 3060 (drooool)

Note also that every folder or item shown in the library has a right-click option to show that in explorer.

Hi odf!! Long time ...
You mentioned not having projection painting in blender yet. Perhaps I misunderstood, but I think it has it. Check this out:

I think that any of these Python image toolkits could easily combine images into an RGB as well. I believe PIL is already installed with Poser Python.

I should think Poser can do it just fine. Not sure why you were using color math. This is the easiest way:

When I sample your screen shot above, I found many places where there's red and blue mixed into the green, red and green mixed into the blue, etc.
You said "I think the very way the maps are made should, in theory, prohibit such color bleeding" but didn't communicate "the very way" so I'm going to guess that you have some sort of color space accidentally chosen that is introducing some hue shifting. Photoshop is not a good application to be using for "data" manipulation - it is far too prone to doing things "because reasons" that are not literally what you told it to do.

What are your render settings here?
Ha - you asked just as I went on a vacation where I did not take a computer. (Probably the first time, ever) I just got back.
Honestly I didn't save the file so I can't be sure. I recall only turning on Indirect Light - mostly everything at default FireFly values.

10 feet!? I think you'll have to make your own image for that.

I wonder: if one can browse to an internal URL to get the content of the library, that means that somewhere in the computer, there is a dedicated program that handles this URL. When does it load? is it still available when Poser is closed? Because there are chances that it reads the XML file only while loading.
No there is not a dedicated separate server - it's poser.exe that just listens on a port like any other application can do.

The texture I used is from here - it's the second one.

From a lower angle of incidence the surface reflections get stronger, as they should, and the diffuse reflections (subsurface) get weaker in the correct proportion.

Here's the result (with some props thrown on for reflections).
