Thanks everyone. Aside from the sample WOlf showed me, is there anywhere that has more examples of animations done with Carrara? I only found 1 site that had Vue animations, and while they looked really good, there wasn't much in the way of characters in them. Thats to be expected I guess, since it's mostly for landscape creation. I think I'm going to get Carrara, although I came upon AnimationMaster, which looks pretty awesome too. The only problem I see with AnimationMaster is that it doesn't play well at all with Poser, or any other app for that matter. sfdex, do you have any examples of your Carrara works? I'd love to see some!
Thread: Been thinking about Carrara 4 for animation... | Forum: Carrara
Hey, that looks really good, Wolf359! Is that skin material something that comes with Carrara? One thing I noticed about Poser is that it is very difficult, when using BVH files, to keep the figure's feet from slipping as if on ice. I don't have LifeForms, but I noticed in your first part of the anim, the example of the bones in LifeForms seemed to have the same problem in some parts. Didn't notice it in the final render though. Don't know if you know what I mean, but how do you deal with this in your workflow? For me, it seems that even a simple walk cycle in Poser can bring about a strange movement that makes feet seem to slide or float at different times while walking, or moving. I guess one could always hide this problem with camera angles, but I was wondering if that is something Carrara could help with also? I know it can't be done in Vue, since Vue doesn't have character animation tools, but I'm sure Carrara does?

Thank you both for the info! Much appreciated. I've been working on it, and I think I might have it now.
Thread: Easy way to animate throwing/catching a ball??? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
WOW! Thank you, Little Dragon! This sounds a little advanced, but I think I see what you mean. Coupple questions: how do I make a parabolic arc? Is this like a path the ball will follow automatically? Will I need to keyframe the ball's trajectory, or is there a way to automate that part? Also, I'm not sure how to do spline breaks. I know where the animation graph is, but how do put breaks in the lines? Thank you for the quick response!

$3000? Sounds like they don't really have 3dsmax, and it was just their way of asking you to buy it for them. They probably didn't want to just come out and say "sure, we'll rig v3 in 3dsmax for you, just buy us the program first". hehe!!

COOL! Looks like the guy in the background is telling his wife: "I TOLD you we should have taken the booze cruise on the Pacific Princess instead!!"
Thread: Advice for getting started in Poser 6 (goal: realistic Illustrations) | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I'm also learning Poser 6, and i have a fascination with realistic renders. I've seen some really great ones done with Poser 6, but from what I understand, it really doesn't depend so much on the model as it does the lighting and materials. I don't have any personal examples, but I've seen some extreme realism done with the standard Poser 6 figures, as well as some others. By all means, get M3 if you wish (it is free), but keep in mind the importance of the materails and lighting too. :)
Thread: Do these teeth look better? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I think the teeth look almost perfect in post #9. It looks like she has lipstick on, so I'm just wondering if her lips shouldn't have more of a glossy sheen to them mayabe? That's really a great render though, and the skin looks very good. I wish there was a way to make hair more realistic in poser... I mean without the help of photoshop. Dynamic hair seems to look really good in some renders, but I can't do anything with it myself. Takes too long to render, and I have no idea yet how to make the strands look good.
Thread: Considering Vue for Poser renders? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Please note, this is just my opinion, and nothing against Eon or Vue users, but: I tried the Vue 5i demo, and I hated it. The rendering didnt' seem faster or better than my Poser 6 output, and I had a really hard time moving the camera around. The HDRI wasn't functional for me in the demo (at least I couldn't get it to work), but the GI and radiosity renders were very slow, and the results weren't all that great for me. There's no way to get realistic looking skin in Vue... nothing like Face_Off's scripts can produce at least. I have yet to see any realistic renders of human characters that surpass those I've seen done with Poser 6 so far. I also found Vue's material editor very very hard to grasp compared to the material room in Poser 6 also. Probably takes some getting used to, but in my case, I just never got used to it. I couldn't get the ecosystem to work either, no matter how hard I tried. I even followed a tutorial in the Vue forum about it, but maybe it's disabled in the demo? I also didn't see any way to get good toon renders out of it. I don't think it can do this. Anyway, the bottom line was that I just wasn't overly impressed with Vue 5i. I'm sure it can do some great things, especially for landscape scenes, but it's not my cup of tea. Lightwave, however, I know is a great application. Just the mention of it's name gives me the shivers. HAHA!
Thread: DazStudio Vs Poser | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I thought about just going with DazStudio a while ago, but then I noticed what some folks like Face_Off, mec4d, maxxxmodelz, and some others were producing with Poser 6, and that was it for me. Studio seems like it has a lot of potential, but a long way to catch up to what is possible in poser 6. Just my opinion though, for what it's worth.
Thread: Semi OT: 3d comics... do people make money from them? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
WOW! Some really incredible information and links here. Thank you ALL for the great response to this thread. It really gives me some hope that there is indeed a market for this out there. Definitely seems like "erotica" has the bigger success rate, and likelyhood of making money.

pzrite wrote: " I make about $500 - $600 a month on my AltaWoman site, an adult membership 3D comics site using Poser. I know I could make a lot more if I put more effort into it, but right now I don't have as much time as I used to. I average about 100-200 members at any give time, and again I could probably get more if I was more agressive with my advertising, trading links and such." Hmmmm. This is the kind of thing I was hoping to hear. I mean, I certainly couldn't quit my job making $600 a month, but if it were possible to somehow build on that to make... I don't know... say around $600 to $1000 a week (before taxes), then I might be able to do it for a living! In your experience, pzrite, do you think such a goal is worth pursuing? Do you think it's possible to gain that kind of income with 3D comics that are 'well done'? I'd like to thank everyone for responding so far. I see there's a lot of regard to the word 'quality' as being a key to success with this. Aside from a good, solid story, and interesting characters, what would be a good definition of quality for a 3d comic? Obviously, the artwork means a lot... but in regards to 3D, specifically Poser, do people prefer a comic that is rendered in a cartoon form (like hand-drawn traditional comics), or high quality photorealistic 3D? What do you think would sell better, assuming the story and character quality were high also? Do people not like a high level of detail and realism in their comics? I'm a big fan of photorealism in 3D, and would love to do a high quality comic containing that kind of imagery when I get more proficient at Poser. However, if cartoon style will sell better, then I'll concentrate more on improving my skills in that area. Any thoughts about that?

Thanks, bjbrown... good advice! Do you know any way that one may develop a reputation as having a good series? Will posting pieces of a series on sites like this help establish this, or perhaps most people here are artists themselves and wouldn't care to join a subscription site anyway? I just have no clue in the area of internet business or how to market something as intangible as a digital comic.
Thread: Semi OT: 3d comics... do people make money from them? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hi, Samtherapy! I wonder if that person works on them full time? Does he own a website or just do work for others on a commission type basis? I'd love to know if there is a lot of demand for digital comics (adult or otherwise), because it's something I feel I might really be good at, unlike the miserable excuse for a job I currently have. LOL! I personally would probably purchase a membership to a site that does regular updates on some good comic series, but I feel like I'm the only one willing to do so. Everyone I seem to ask tells me there's no money in it, or they would never pay to read them online. I'd have a lot of questions for someone who knows, and is doing it. hehe.
Thread: Help with hair | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
MC6, from what I gather, stands for "material collection 6". If you apply that to your hair prop, it will put all the materials of each part of the prop (assuming there's more than one part) in their proper place. If I'm wrong about that, please someone correct me. If there's more than one part to this hair prop, then maybe the mistake you made was only applying it to one part and not the others? If you apply the MC6 version, it might come out right. Mind you, this is just speculation from an uneducated newbie to Poser 6. LOL. I could be totally off.
