This is a myth in the making. Just because computers have the same chip does NOT mean that computer programs will run across platform without a hitch. Do you think xbox games are going to run on the ps3? Do you think the xbox games run on the G5 iMac? hogwarden, if you're a programmer you should know better. Both Apple and MS have said they are not going to support their OS running on different hardware. There are large numbers of PC and Linux developers moving to the Mac. And there's talk of 39% sales growth this quarter. Mac software developers are in high demand. If we want OSX utilities for Poser then encourage and pay for the software that's CURRENTLY being written. There's a few of us doing it. I've worked for over 40 hours on dittoGUI and received less than $20.00 total, I would rather be rendering. Ok v1 of the software may not have been "Great" but it worked and it saves people a lot of time. I know I use it. Not even an email saying thanks buddy, keep at it. Anyway I've got a paying job to work on, so good luck. I hope running Windows solves all your problems:-) Oh and by the way v3.1 of dittoGUI is now available for download. If it gets some support maybe the boss will ok me doing another Poser utility. I hope so!Thread: Mac Software Writers for Poser | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
"there's also a pc program that will check out wrongly placed files and correct them" I'm not sure what you mean by this? do you mean it checks inside the poser files and changes the file paths to reflect the current locations of the file? What else is needed? Esther is right I've ported my dittoGUI to Cocoa and it's all but ready. What I've got works well, it's just user interface additions, like buttons as well as the current Menu Options. And a couple of little additions. I'll take some time out of my current project to do that tomorrow. (Don't tell the boss) I'm not sure on ditto's arg limits on the the number of folders it can do in one batch, I'll have to check that:-) What number of top level folders are you wanting?

You may want to post this in the Mac Forum. Personally I don't use the dots. Maybe I should check them out:-)

Poser Maconverter converts Poser 3 and 4 files to OS9. We are now at versions Poser 6 on OSX. PLEASE TAKE NOTE!!! Mac OSX Poser 5 and 6 are FULLY file compatible with the Windows versions, there is NO conversion necessary. Just unzip them and ditto the files into your Runtime. The real problem is that the creators of v3/4 content have not updated their products for Poser 5/6. Generally, it's just load the old file into Poser (ignore Mr Shruggy) and save it out again. This should give you a nice new Icon. No conversions programs. Writing a program to make a .png (P6 icon) from the .res (P4 icon) file is a lot of work, especially when we can fix it ourselves by pressing the + button.

I guess replace doesn't mean replace on Windows but this thread isn't about Windows. The Mac OS is different from Windows, I think this is a good thing. There are lots of other differences too. OSX does have this copy/merge option, it's called ditto and it's built into every Mac. My FREE 3rd party software just creates a shortcut for this option. I wrote it especially to help Poser users manage this OS difference.

Your right, fancy that OSX actually warns you that it's going to replace the file or folder, before it does it. "An item named "Runtime" already exists in this location. Do you want to replace it with the one you are moving?" In fact you have to click on the button that says "replace". I guess we missed that. dittoGUI is an OSX window to the Apple's Unix command ditto. Ditto leaves the folder structure in place and any files with unique names. It adds any Folders and Files which don't exist in the destination, and overwrites files which do. Ideal for merging in Runtimes. The best thing to do is to set up some test folders and files and experiment, before you work on your live data. I'm 80% through moving my Poser stuff onto another computer and have been using dittoGUI a lot. I think it's call "eating your own dog food"

Thread: PLEASE READ - Is there another "shadownet" you know of? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
You have concerns over a nickname? have you done a search on your real name? There are at least 5 other people with my real name on the net. I guess I should track them down and stop them using my name:-) Sorry, the nets a big place and we're not as unique as we think we are. Merry Christmas to all the shadownets out there.
Thread: Poser 6. Want to buy it. But PC or Mac? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Poser 6 on the Mac is very poor. Poser makes very little use of the advanced OSX and PPC features. Poser 6 is still locked into an old version of Python so advanced scripts have problems. The Mac is also a second class citizen in the poser community, especially when it comes to third party support. While I have found that the Mac is a better computer in many many respects. You will have problems with whatever platform you choose, they will just be different sorts of problems. Select your poison. Estruch: If you are having kernel panics then there's something wrong with your Mac. This is not normal.

"Sorry, Pengy, but MacConverter also decodes encrypted files and cleans up a batch of other errors if it finds them." Could you be more specific, please. As I have been told that Poser 5/6 is fully file compatible. I have seen no encrypted or unclean files in the windows distributions.

Selecting Open in Classic will only work if they have classic installed, a lot of people haven't.Firstly the question is what does he want to convert? With Poser 5 and 6 content, it is file compatible with the Windows version, so there's nothing to convert (although many readme files needlessly instruct mac users to do it)
As to very old content, designed for Poser 4 and before then yes the .rsr files need updating to .png and the OSX solution for that task is fmorgans MacCoverter. See Link.
The other file you may encounter is a .rte this needs decoding with RTEJava
http://www.geocities.co.m/RTEJava/alpha/index.html
Don't forget with Poser 6 you will need to unzip the .obj file before using this.
For general loading you files into your runtimes you can use OSX's ditto command or dittoGUI at
http://www.ilike.co.nz/dittogui/
Hope this helps...
