Thank you so much for the suggestion, but no. I'd looked that site over and the one I use is quite a bit newer than Windows 95 - it can search a 1 TB drive in under 4 minutes, and without bogging the system down with indexes and updating indexes. I think I have a vague recollection it was a free premium with a font utility I purchased long ago, and threw the diskette away when I stopped using the utility. It's only one out of a dozen things I'd like to port over anyway.
I do appreciate the effort.
Thread: OT - anyone know of an app that will uninstall a program in a form that can be r | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Well, copying the main folders over from my backup drive did indeed work - Poser 4 now IDs as ProPack on the splash screen, and it reads all the PNGs in the libraries (which I think was new in ProPack). Don't really expect to use it as much as the newer types, but I want it on my computer available for testing when I'm asked to beta-test products.
Thanks for the responses.
I still wish I could find such an uninstall-to-reinstall program, though. I have several incredibly useful utility programs I use that I installed long ago from magazine CD's, links on tech forums and such without thinking to archive the distribution files - if I can't find a way to port them over individually I'm really going to miss them; case in point - File Finder, a fast non-indexing hard drive search tool that I use daily.
Thread: Poser 8 library - requires Flash? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - There are several alternatives to the Poser 8 library GUi altogether. Some free, some pay.
Semidieu makes one. Dimension3D makes one. There are others.
It has been discussed many times in this forum. Do searches for "alternative library" or something like that.
I've read and bookmarked most or all of those threads, and I think I've bought pretty much all of the utilities mentioned, but not had time to actually install or try any of them out yet.
I want to clarify that I've no problem with Poser 8 interface itself, but only with flash & the way it behaves in my computer. I was just hoping to find an alternative way to keep the library working without having to remember to install flash first every time.
Oh well, question asked and answered.
Thank you, everyone for your comments.

Where to get flash isn't a problem.
I've installed, updated, downloaded, and un-installed it over a dozen times. The problem is that aside from being a known security risk, it just doesn't play well in my system.
Are there any substitutes or workarounds to flash that can be used in Poser 8?
I know that when I got fed up with Adobe's PDF utility I was able to find a couple programs online that work just as well or better without plundering my system resources or the risk of executing malignant code in PDF documents. I was just hoping somewhere there was a better alternative to Flash as well.
Thread: Poser Pro 2010 release on the horizon... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - Still can not get SM site to show how to sidegrade from P7 to Poser pro , asks for Pro serial number. Just when I really believed it was no dream offer, "buy / sidegrade to poser pro and get Poser 2010 for free " ,...... only if you can get the site to except a serial number.......
Same thing happened to me when I was placing my order Wednesday - I just entered my Poser 8 serial number and it all went thru - got the software yesterday. I suspect the label for the S/N entry field isn't correctly phrased.
Thread: What can Poser Pro do that Poser 8 Can't? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - I have no patience to download the beta content (4 GB) so I'm not at all aware of what is included from experience. Even if I did, they may add more before release. I can't imagine there is anything less than what P8 came with, though. Which means all the P8 stuff plus the Legacy Content package.
Thank you for the response!
Thread: What can Poser Pro do that Poser 8 Can't? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I was wondering, is there any information yet about what Content will be available with Pro2010? I've been reading info as it's released, but I don't recall seeing anything about that.
Will it be same as P8, a subset of P8's content, a superset of P8 content, mostly different, or ???

> Quote - It's 64! (yay) (I think) > > It's all a bit confusing...I have two program files folders...what the heck does "86" signify? And egads, Windows 7 sure is hard to tweak. Ideally, I'd like to make it look just like xp...I hate all the flowery crap they change every time.My favorite single tweak utility for Win7 is Classic Shell - it adds some missing features to Windows 7 and Vista like a classic start menu, toolbar for Explorer and others ClassicShellSetup.exe http://sourceforge.net/projects/classicshell/files/
I installed it, and suddenly the interface seems 500% more usable to me.

Thread: OT - Stargate Babies - Harder to Watch Each Week | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
It's economics. Take the premise of the pilot for SG:A, add the mood/flavor of the recent Battlestar series - add a big new cheaper cast and cut overhead (use exteriors and one big re-useable set instead of paying to make new sci fi themed sets every week).
Like BSG I can watch it, but only when I'm in a specific mood - too dark and aimless to watch just for fun, but worth following in case there's an underlying theme or direction that's not yet obvious (not enough new Sci Fi of any kind on TV to saturate my appetite, however poorly conceived). They'll probably come up with some evil race or baddie to give it a more traditional space opera framework to hang the hackneyed recycled plots that SciFy's movies are noted for.
Thread: Use external binary morphs question | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - Leather-Guy: The only software I know to mass-convert embedded morphs to binary morphs and back is my Binary Morph Converter. For single files, Poser File Editor can be used as well.
D3D - Hi
I've purchased quite a few of your utilities.
I want to merge all the PMD files in my Poser folders into the characters, hairs, etc. that they go with so I can do away with the PMDs - I've turned off the option to use external binary morphs in Poser, but there are a lot of assets that come with PMD's, including content that comes with Poser, and they complicate my attempts to reorganize my Poser libraries.
I posted a question on how to eliminate PMDs in the Poser forum at Renderosity some time ago. You posted that Binary Morph Converter would do the job.
I was able to save up and buy it at Renderosity a few weeks ago, and today I was finally able to install it.
The manual doesn't describe how to merge PMDs in any specific way - and the interface isn't intuitive to me.
I thought I had it figured out, but everytime I try and run it It scans 140-155 files or so, and then crashes, so I must be doing something wrong.
How do I use it to merge all the PMD files into their CR2's, HR2's, etc, so all the PMD's can be done away with?
I'm afraid I need step-by-step instructions, as the manual isn't doing it for me.
I'm on XP/SP2 - Poser 8/SP1
Thanks

Welcome, Rod. For good basic information on Poser and the Poser community I recommend the newcomer posts by Arcadia and the tutorials of Dr Geep. I don't have Geep's URL handy, but read Arcadia's posts in this thread - http://market.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php?thread_id=2780067Thread: Renderosity FreeStuff - Allow External Hosting Petition | Forum: Freestuff
