is it just me or do you think the two cars 2nd & 3rd from the left look like they are driving on TOP of the railings?
Thread: Render Times? | Forum: Bryce
If I have a really Long render time image (like with lots of glass) I will usually do a rough render of the whole thing, save the file and then come in and do a plop-render of a selected area. When that is done I will save the image (not necessarily the Bryce file) and then go on to do a plop-render of another portion. This way I can do it in stages (so my computer isn't completely tied up and unavailable for other uses if I need it) and if something should freeze up during one of the partial renders I can go back and load in the last saved one and continue without losing ALL that render time. Sometimes Bryce hangs on me. Does that happen to anyone else?

this is all VERY useful information. I am glad I stumbled across this post. Hopefully within the next 3 to 6 months I will be in the market for a new machine.

I clicked on the link you gave and it took me right to your website working correctly as far as I could see. Using Windows 98 and IE. However... when I clicked on the link for "prints" it took me OUT of your site entirely and into a site for "Digital Echo Design" with an assortment of your images for purchase but no direct link BACK to YOUR site other than just clicking my browser's back button. The page looks just close enough like your site that at first I thought it was still yours but clicking on the links at the top (Home, the gallery, etc.) did not go to your site as I expected. Don't know if you want to do anything about that or not, but maybe having your site set so that clicking on the "Prints" button opens a new window.
Thread: .lwo format conversion to Bryce OBJ or to 3DS | Forum: Bryce
I currently have Bryce 5 but not 5.5c. I've hesitated to upgrade (waiting on vs 6). Being able to import more directly from DAZ/Studio and now this additional import capability which I had not previously heard about may change my mind. Thanx! As for the url of the model ... I came across this site (http://dmi.chez.tiscali.fr/models1.html) and there are LOTS of models I am interested in there.

Madmax... I have been experimenting (on a smaller scale) with your suggestions about blurry transmissions and the specular hilight settings. Awesome difference in the quality! (Also horrendous difference in render times!) I am really curious now to try what you are saying about "lighting the scene with reflections", but I don't grasp what you mean about that. Perhaps you could shoot me a small file with that setup so I can dissect it?

Burpee... I saw that too about the lack of shadows. Was planning to adjust that before final render but forgot. Particularly the lack of a floor shadow from the cone makes it look like it isn't really on the ground. I think it is partly the "angle" of the light coming in from the window. Precisely the wrong angle for the cone and the cube. I will make changes.

WOW guys! This is some great food to chew on. I will need to work on these things and see what I can (and my computer) can handle; to see how far I can push it. This is turning out to be a superb exercise for me. For now, I want to add a descriptive of my scene. It is basically a square room with a window in three walls and a door in the fourth. The girl is standing in the doorway behind the camera. It is bright daylight outside but I found a window object online that had water-dripped glass panes in it and that is what I used and what makes the outdoors look so dark. And that is why the window sill looks so smooth as I didn't mess with those textures (yet). Most of the light for this scene is coming in through a window that is out of view at the right side. The yellowed light, softer, is from the lamp. That is why it looks like there are two light sources. I chose the primitive shapes not because they mean anything or because they look like they "belong" in a room like this but because they don't. I know their shapes aren't interesting but when I started (with just sphere) and found its texture which I used here I liked that and went from it... focusing more on a couple of interesting textures rather than the nature of the object shapes themselves. Gog, when you said scale the sphere texture to give more detail, do you mean make it smaller and finer? I rather like it being overly rough and extreme. Maybe a "subtexture" on top of the big texture here? hmmm. And yes I'm sure it looks squashed because of the extreme FOV. Any tips on how to have a wide FOV and not distort things at the edges? As for all the excellent specific tips (especially madmax) those are EXACTLY the things I was fishing for. Thanx and I will put them to practice this weekend! Look for followup WIP soon. --Jeff

Darn! I keep forgetting that Winds3d is available for the Mac. Believe it or not... I'm still stuck with OS9, because of an older scanner than won't work in OSX.

WOW! I stumbled into this and was quite curious to see that others are put-off by this as I am. I DID write to Lee and he wrote me back. He is NOT acva. The wolf images (well at least the one, "Mate") is not by acva but is a blatant rip-off.

Thread: Namihei | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Okay, thanx for the link telling what is going on. Personally... I don't want WW that badly. I think the Namihei stuff looks stupid. Maybe a bit is funny, but the joke is on us here at Renderosity. This is overkill! Thank goodness it'll be over after today.
Thread: Keeping safe..... | Forum: Bryce
Okay, I have a question relating to this. If I log myself out of Renderosity and leave the site and then come back in later but don't log in but stay noted as a "guest" then I can browse the galleries and the like. However, I sent myself an email with a link to a gallery image according to the specs you describe here (example: http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=819077 ) and when I click on that link it brings me to Renderosity but it asks me to log in. What's up with that? How can I send links of my images to friends if they are going to have to log-in when the click on the link? Why can't they just see the image? -Jeff

You know, I'm with Fran... I've seen remarks about 'Open GL' before, and I also don't know what that means.
