3 points- orbital - wonderful mood, compo and lighting. I would
have preferred modern
jet fighters but... a good render is a good render. Well done and
congratts
2 points - rashadcarter - your open sky is just breathtaking...
LOVE that clouds of yours. A pity you could not convey more
detail on the aircrafts, I suppose for the deadline incoming....
1 point to - dan whiteside - I loved the composition, the aircraft
and the clouds with that shadow dancing...
Special mention to... jedwiindells - simply superb model. Maybe
you could try some IBL lighting with it...
RG19 - everything is just right. Awesome how you did put
together the carrier... water surface (the reflections) is excellent.
The render catches effectively the moment of liftoff... again its a
shame that the plane is WWII... (I am not against that fantastic
old planes, only moderns ones catch me more)
aerojett - everything is alright with this, altitude indeed, maybe
there's too much 2d manipulation... on of these challenges we
could reverse thread and go for "best postwork" contest...
vncnt9663 - You deserve a mention for the concept and for
having modeled the crafts into Bryce... Very good work indeed !

I know there is a file size restriction in Bryce, that is you can't save more than 2 Gb file, otherwise it will crash. Rashadcarter, a friend here, advice is to keep open the task manager windows so to keep under control the RAM usage..
The rule I know if you go say 1.4 Gb its risky to save.
One possible solution is to use polygon reducing tecnique.
I use either "quem loss " plugin in Lightwave modeler or the "decimator" plugin in Zbrush.

Always done that, because I hate losing my works !
Anyway Bryce saves like this automatically, if you end the namefile with a number. Example; if you save a "namefile_1.br6" if you save again Bryce will write another file named "namefile_2.br6" on its own.
At times I find this rather annoying, and I do prefer save subsequent files like this:
"namefile_one.br6"... "namefile_two.br6" and so on.

The current challenge is just too cool...
When I heard of this subject, I began immediately to swirl around with concepts and sketches in mind...
A couple of movies popped out in mind; "the right stuff" on test pilots, directed by Philip Kaufman some time ago, and the 1982 blockbuster movie "Firefox". I like very much the design of the stealth aircraft seen in ... "Stealth"
I definely will caarry on something out of these threads...
At first I just wanted to picture a modern dogfight with missile fired and smoke and fireballs... but then I got caught with peaceful considerations... maybe I should have opted for something like; a resignation letter on an high officer desk , and out of the windows you see a grounded bomber... but this was all the way too peaceful even for me, so I think I' ll work on a different theme.
On the movie The right stuff" I have seen Chuck Yaeger story (a NASA test pilot) , and been struck by his flight high altitude/high speed on a F 104 Starfighter, ending up with stress failure on plane and he being jettisoned out and parachuting down. Hell, this is something I should do... On a side note I must add F 104 were used by the Italian Air Force til not much ago (yes, I am Italian) and they were nicknamed "flying coffins" by the pilots cause their extremely low portancy.
If you admire test pilots, those at NASA deserve our maximum respect. If you want to read detailed stories about the Apollo team test pilots you should read Oriana Fallaci "If the Sun Dies"
Can I insert a bit of salt in the thread ... ?
What's your favourite aircraft !!!!
I loved that aborted YF 23 project, that plane looked way much cooler than the F 22 Raptor series...
But I have a fascination for the russian Sukhoi SU 27.
Here, have a look at some pic of it at their site:
http://www.sukhoi.org/eng/gallery/?gallery_id=56&cur_gallery_id=56
And I just found a rather pretty SU 27 3d model in a Taschen CD I had... so I have the chance to remap it and refurbish it for the task....
Well, people, what's your fav plane anyway... ?

Sorry 50 parsec.
Try here:

I dunno how but I uplloaded the same render twice, so I had to erase one of the two....

There it is.
I made up minor change in the foam materials (adding an alpha gradient to smooth the whiting),
and you can see it in the gallery here:

Many thanks to skiwillgee, 50parsecs and AnnieD for their support.

To skillwillgee:
I will definely be happy to look at some materials, foam, waters whatever you got on that superb scenes.
Can I drop u a sitemail with my address ? Nothing too large, say up to 2 Mb, but it will suffice for mats and unmapped objects.
Here seems a lot of people get free online space at
www.sharecg.com
I had a Bryce 4 site around 1999 , at nbci. Well, certain files weighted up to 10 Mb, entire Bryce 4 scenes. There were Gerry Anderson's models stuff (Space 1999 stuff and UFO models, the S.H.A.D.O. Moonbase... !), and a Clint Eastwood's Firefox plane, all made by me.. eventually one day the site disappeared overnight, they sent me a mail informing me that they wanted to do what they want with their free space. This pissed me off, as you can imagiine. I realized the thing must'nt have enough hits for their tastes...
Probably if I collect the time to do it again here, will utilize sharecg.com HD space, but I don't think will exceed 4 or 5 MB per file.

There's still work to do on the foam, don't you think ? I applied the Ocean Foam material to the whitish part of it.

Oops, pardon skiwillgee... well somebody could shed a light or two on the DTE editor someday.
Me too am an hobbyst... BTW. That's the breeze, to enjoy a thing without pressures.
Your work was and it is outstanding . This theme was on the tip of my tongue, just waiting for the right input to start. I LOVE sea scene with waves.
After a while I realized the mesh of the foam has to be more dense. I loaded into Zbrush, I subdivided the wave, and tweaked the geometry a lot to get it done the way I wanted.
It is rendering now, I post it as soon as possible. Probably somebody could do better, but I enjoyed it terribly, so far.
Thread: Can anyone suggest how to do white sprays of a surf kind wave.... | Forum: Bryce
Did you left any tut on the web on "the misteries" of DTE in Bryce... ?
Also the Plenty of Ocean Waves guy... ;) You must the one I was looking for. Compliments for that renders. Bravissimo !
Yes, I will try to duplicate part of the cloud and do the cloudy thing... thanx.
The foliage tecnique didn't go well BTW... too render intensive, too lousy the results, sorry.
Hence you're curious, here's a screen grab of what I began... Lightwave modeler, extruding twelve squared polygons from the plane, and "whirled" the extrusion. I added some noise to the geometry with the jitter function, and I stirred the mesh with the magnet tool here and there.
I am not sure that that kind of wave could be accomplished using only Bryce terains/lattices, I simply had this solution pop up in mind one morning and go for it. I was waiting the right inspiration to replicate the wave I've seen, and sometimes the best things are the simpler.

The answer seems to be lots of whittie terrains.... I dunno. I like the White Bryce Trees options. I will try it for sure.
Bryster Bryster where did u go ? If u are there knock one hit...
