Actually, I also went to the Curious Labs booth at SIGGRAPH yesterday and it provided me with one of the few high points (for me) of the day. There, getting a complete run-down of everything Poser has to offer, was a fellow by the name of...DICK VAN DYKE!!! I've known for some time that Dick Van Dyke was into computer graphics. He was a frequent visitor to Amiga shows here in L.A. back when the Amiga was really happening. And he was written up several times in Amiga Video Toaster magazines and articles. Obviously he has now joined the world of Poser fanatics!! I saw him getting heavily into conversations with the Curious Labs guys and he talked to them very enthusiastically for a long time. I left to go visit some other booths. When I came back some minutes later, he was still there, now sitting down and getting a hands-on demo of Poser from one of the guys. So there you have it! Rob Petrie is a Poser fanatic! Or was it Bert the chimney sweep? Well, anyway, you heard it here first! Semp.

Fantastic! Don't change a thing. Release it as is. It's great to see a really talented company making something contemporary, useful and NEW! Do we really need another suit of armor for the P4 Male or bathing suit for Vicky?

My advice? In your deal, you have to spell out clearly who owns what. Do that right up front and don't shrink away from it. Failure to do that will result in nobody CLEARLY owning anything. If you want part ownership of the character, then ask for it and make it a part of the written agreement. Sometimes I hire people to do work for me. When I do, I always want to own outright what I pay for, but I'm willing to pay top dollar for that ownership. If your client wants to own the character, you should charge a higher price for your work and then let it go. To that extent, I agree with ronstuff. But I disagree with ronstuff when he says "If your client is not the one bringing up the subject, then the less said, the better - leave him to "assume" that he is buying full rights (but don't mislead or decieve him)." That kind of "assumption" on your client's part can backfire on you. Suppose he makes a toy deal for the character and he leaves you out of it? After all, he assumes the character is his. So you go to him and you tell him that you think you own part of the character. He's not simply going to say, "Oh, alright," and cut you in. Life doesn't work that way. You'll have to go to court to fight for your rights. That costs money, time...and you still might lose. Believe me, it's better to get everything straight right up front.

"Life Forms" by Credo Interactive will let you do what you want to do. It's expensive, but you can define an action for a generic "skeleton" and then apply that action to Poser figures of your choice. Click on the link above...Thread: A possible new Poser model CD... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL

Davo, It's a pure Poser render all the way. I should mention that I've also got the Pro-Pack installed (but I haven't installed the latest Pro-Pack patch yet -- I didn't want to encounter any new problems in the middle of a project). These are two frames rendered from animation sequences that I've done. I'm using an AMD 900 mhz computer with Windows 2000, 256 meg ram, Nvidia Riva TNT-2 display card, etc. For the record, I purchased your Dreadworks CD right after you released it. Hey, even if we can't solve this, at least we've had another opportunity to show the world your fine work ;-) John

PD This is great work. If you could do an English gold sovereign of the Victorian era next, you've got a sale. That's exactly what I need. John
