Yes you can. Check out the tutorial section for an indepth explenation. I'd start out simple and experiment on some primitives. First divide the prop into segements where you want it to bend. You can do it in Poser with the grouping tool. How ever I'd do it in a modelling app or UVmapper. Uvmapper problly being the easiest. First import the 3ds into poser then export it as an obj. The pic I've uploaded is of a medieval mace. As you can see I've high lighted the different sections of the handle and moved them. If I want to make the handle posable I would name the diferent sections. Just highlight a piece... move it... rename it... and on to the next. When you've named everything assign a new map to the whole thing. this will bring the template back together and make your textureing easier. Now save that puppy. Go back into Poser and Import your obj. Select your object and open the grouping tool. Hit spawn prop. This will break the object ito all the groups you named in UVmapper. Now go to the heiarchy editor. Move the different parts so as to make a chain of them. For example a finger goes under a hand and that geoes under a forarm and that under upper arm, etc. It all finally goes under one object. You higlight this object hit create figure. Give it a name and voila you've got a new figure in your library. Open up a new window and then load up your figure. Hope I made some kinda of sense.

Your right the hoof pick was easy to do. You can have what ever I mange to make. If you want it. That Arabian halter is gonna be the hard one to make.

This looked kind of interseting so I had to try my hand at a few of them. I was afraid to divide the rope into too many segments. Thought it mite be a nightmare to pose but it looks like I mite have to... to get a more.... rope like effect.:) So what do you think.

Yeah, I'm with Poppi, I like the castles theme. Or maybe create a poster for a fictional movie. That would invovle post work though for the compositing of the images.

I did this on a face mask I made here last week and I think it works pretty good. Its just divided into 3parts.

You, can do a limited amount of modeling in Poser with primitives. However if you want to make props and clothing you need a modeling program. There are some good free modelers out there. Clothing modeling is not something you can do over night though. It takes a lot of practice. You might want to start out more simply, making thing like props. Not to discourage you. Some of the free modelers:Anim8tor,Strata3d,Blender and I think they are giving away an older version of Amapi. I'm sure there are more out there. hope this helps

I like it. You can mix and match parts for diferent combinations. If you consider the additonal props and textures you could add to the out fit its really got some variety.
