Thank you for the answer. Nothing in my question was meant to be pissy. I generally don't use emoticons so most people do interpret my statements as malcontent... which in general I am, but not when I talk to other people... I generally use self deprecating humor when dealing with other people because I have found that most people respond better if they feel they have the higher ground... hence me referring to myself as a chimp... I even said "Thank You" in chimpanzee... I called myself Chimchim for cryin' out loud...
I really try to be nice to other people and aside from a few people who get my humor and occasionally find it funny, most people either ignore me or dislike me... I really try to give back to the DS/Poser community as much as I can, If I learn something- I pass it on, if make a model using a new technique I make it available for free... I don't ask anything from anyone except for an answer or two here and there... and many of the times most people don't really even read what I wrote, they just assume something entirely different... but I say thank you anyway and then try and sort it out on my own because I don't want to sound ungrateful.
I have asked this same question several times over the last couple of years (always nicely) and have never gotten a clear answer that I could really use. As a matter of fact the last time I asked the question over at DAZ, nobody responded to it... I really didn't know why... I thought I asked a simple question... I have a model, I want to turn it into a prop in DAZ studio so I can share it with DS users... what is the process? There are only so many ways to ask that and or interpret it... The fault must either be with me or how I'm asking the question. Probably both.
When I wanted to learn how to do this in Poser, I bought a $40 book to find out the answer.
If DAZ users had a book I'd happily buy and use it.
All this aside, I do think I am the idiot for not "getting it" either, how to properly communicate with other people or to find the answer on my own...
Thank you for taking the time to respond and I'm sorry to you or anyone whom I may have offended.
I mean that sincerely.
Thread: What is the proper way to make a DS version (= 2 a PP2) of one of my freebies? | Forum: DAZ|Studio
Nothing? Now I know why I hardly use DS... Is it that I asked the question stupidly and nobody understands what I mean or is it that nobody knows how to do this... ?
Okay, I'll try again...
Assume I'm a talking Chimp who just started using DAZ Studio...
Cimchim (me) has made a nice banana model and he wants to share with you humans... Cimchim (still me) would like to make that banana available to BOTH users of Poser (which Cimchim learned to do long ago) and to users of DAZ Studio... Cimchim has looked this up, but all of the tutorials Cimchim has found seem to fall short of answering that question directly, most seem to assume you already know this and that you are making the model for yourself, NOT to share...
Chimchim is sad.
It would seem to me that it would be a relatively easy thing to do... lots of people seem to do it... DAZ sells content is DAZ's format... people give away DAZ format models at ShareCG...
Maybe people think I'm asking how to rig a figure or make something complex? Or is it that DSON (or whatever that new format is) has changed things?
I'm just talking about something simple, saved the old fashioned way... so other people can use it...
Chimchim thanks you in advance for any assistance you can offer on this subject.
OOOOGH OOHK EEEH EEEH! (Thank you and may your bananas be sweet... thats in chimpanzee)

I won't make any suggestions as to what you can do to actually make better renders... such as render settings and camera angles, but I can make a few suggestions on how to get back some of yer mojo...
Years ago I backed my 72' Pontiac over my muse... apparently according to the Muse's Guild, everyone is only entitled to one muse per lifetime... Meh, she wasn't that good anyway... that and she had a bad habit of getting drunk and sleeping under parked cars, so it was just a matter of time anyway... So museless (thats a real word), I decided to try and inspire myself despite the loss... Since alcohol gets expensive after a while and drugs are illegal (just say no), I decided to skip the Ernest Hemingway/Jack Kerouac route and figure out what I liked in other people's work... what got me excited...
The first thing you have to do is actually dedicate some time to figuring out what stirs your soul... These days it's a lot easier than back when I had to hose muse parts out from my wheelwell... Spend a couple of hours on a boring, rainy or locust swam infested weekend searching the internet for images of cool art... or any images that make you "feel something"... (no porn, thats a different feeling)... What is it that you like about a particular image? What is the main subject saying to you? What kind of camera angles do you seem to gravitate to the most? What kind of lighting do you find most moody? Before you should ever give a crap about what other people think, understand how you think... make images that you enjoy... get good at making yourself happy (I don't mean like that)... if you worry too much what other people find in your art, you are only repeating what they want to hear and not what you want to say... you cease to express yourself and will only find disappointment. And then werewolves will eat you...
Actually I'm not sure about the werewolves, but you have to enjoy what you are doing or it doesn't matter how many muses you have, everything will seem flat (especially flat stuff)... Go out and look at a nice sunset or watch squirrels mating in the park... nature is sometimes the biggest source inspiration we can find and its mostly free (sometime the squirrels charge if watch too long). Look at the detail in the lighting, the way the shadows fall across the drunken hobo laying in the alley, the angle his bottle is at, the way the moonlight glints off the urine puddle... learn to see everything in a scene let those details tell the story. Most people live their lives aiming their eyes at stuff, but never actually seeing the world (which is why so many people keep falling into ditches and ravines), they miss all the details and never understand what it is they liked about that sunset at the beach or that elephant hitchhiking on the highway... half the key to giving life to any art is in the details and the stories they tell, the shore birds trying to catch the last meal before the sun sets, or that frilly yellow purse and paisley bonnet the elephant wore. Without those its just a beach, or a lost pachyderm.
Study movies... look behind the sofa cushion till you find your remote, freeze frame the best parts of your favorite movies... look at the camera angles, the lighting, the body language of the main character... what make your heart race or gets you angry, giggle girlishly or pee in your pants in a given scene... play the scene a frame at a time, dissect it... what is the strongest image?... what was that furry thing you felt that was next to the remote, you sure hope it was an old sock... it's probably that black one that has been missing for like a month now, but maybe you aught to sit down real hard on the cushion in case it's something nesting down there... The best part of watching it frame by frame is you don't hear the sound effects and music, you can focus on the visuals and also hear if there are gnawing sounds coming from under the cushion...
Sometimes though, music can help inspire you too... pick something that really gets you going, I happen to like soundtrack stuff by James Horner or other music without vocals... I close my eyes and make my own scene... I used to fall into ditches and off ravines a lot in the beginning, so now I mostly do that before I sleep, while laying down, instead of while biking or jogging... follow the music let it lead your mind to form a story and learn how to freeze those images in your mind... But above all learn to like what you make, even if you find your renders are starting to have lots of squirrels doing the humpy-bumpy, no matter as long as you enjoy it and the squirrels don't press charges you will eventually find a way to focus that energy into more mainstream imagery that your peers will enjoy... or you can make loads of money with a squirrel theme porn site, either way you'll probably be far happier doing what brings you joy than worrying if this of that is perfect or PETA approves.
Remember the key to inner peace is understanding first what drives you, accepting your weakness and building your strength only then can one finish their bottle of sake and slip into our deepest inner peace.
In retrospect I had the worst sensei... I'm pretty sure he was a horrible drunk and I'm also pretty sure him and that damn muse were doing it... Well, I'm sure this has only left you with more questions than answers and possible even a damaged sofa cushion, so good luck and I hope you at least learned not to ask questions in forums where I might respond.
Thread: Looking for a model... Mayberry... | Forum: DAZ|Studio
The set appears to be most of the main street section of the RKO/DesiLu "Mayberry" set.
I just downloaded and checked out the "Courthouse and shops" model... it appears to be simple, but well made with only a few reversed normals (on the barber pole and the awning)... other than that, I think it could make a decent back ground model... as long as you don't need your characters to enter the building... it's just a false front structure... probably like the real thing.
You can find it here:

Thread: Is there some trick to saving Camera sets in Poser Pro 2010? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
So I can NOT rename a camera... I think this is the problem. Either a tutorial or one of my books suggested naming the cameras to avoid confusion... But wherever it was that I found that info they were NOT saving the cameras as Cm2s, just a PZ3... I never thought this would matter... and actually believed it would help avoid confusing Poser itself with conflicting camera names...
Basically, I'm just looking to save the cameras as focal points for people using my free models... these are pretty big sets and I thought it might be helpful for people so they don't have to spend so much time exploring the model and getting the cameras to points of interest...
Thank you both your generous help!
Thank you both also for understanding what I was looking to do... and for actually reading and trying to understand what I was trying to do...
One last question... Am I correct in understand then that Poser will not save new cameras (or extra cameras... beyond the default number) ? For example if I create 3 or 4 extra dolly cameras they and their settings will be lost... correct?
I will experiment now and see what results I can get... Thanks!

Both Lowes and Home Depot carry light weight backer cement board (used for backing tile installations)... Mostly a 1/4" thick panel weighs about the same as a 3/8" piece of OSB.
The PVC board is more expensive than wood, but is fairly durable and has decent longevity, especially when painted.
Overall, it would probably cost twice what wood would cost and be slightly heavier, but would last three times longer, with no maintenance.
Thread: A Bat Box | Forum: Freestuff
Yeah, I figured it was more my fault (I mentioned it in the other thread). Around here the bats tend to "fill" any of bat boxes that the State parks department install (much bigger than mine which I copied from a commercial design) and they tend to install them near the marshes and swampy areas around here. I live about 1200 feet from a swampy conservation area and my property is only one acre with the best local for the box being the back of my shop/garage. I had never considered painting the box black (figured the smell would repel the bats, since they tend to stay away from the boxes till they seem a little run down (which in retrospect may be because the wood turns darker and thus is warmer). I actually considered making light weight cast concrete boxes, but because the cement I use has epoxy additives (to allow for very thin castings) I figured it might also drive away the bats. I also suspect that the yellow jacket wasps are another reason... around here they are vicious and will make a nest under the brim of your hat if you sit long enough... In warm weather I do weekly inspections of my house and shop and rarely does a week go by where there is not at least one nest in or on a structure (never mind the 3' x 6' x 4" nest we once found in a wall)... so I could easily see the wasps also being a deterrent.
How big is good sized bat box? Mine were about a foot wide, eighteen inches tall and had about two and a half inches between the three chambers... (I say "were" because they fell apart after about 10 years of vacancy and I removed them about two years ago). The state boxes seem to be about 4 times as large.

Quote: "This particular bat is a big brown very common bat in your attic found throughout the world."
Or in a recent case flying around my bedroom... Mr. Batty happened to be found by my (then) five year old daughter, who went in there to watch TV... You may have actually heard her scream all the way over in Oklahoma... The best part is, she freaked out because she thought it was a moth(apparently our moths grow real large)... she had no problem with the little guy when she found out he was a bat... just as long as it was not a moth.
Bats- Okay... Moths- not okay. Giant Bloodthirsty Space Moths- Really, really, really NOT okay.
I love bats and my daughters are big fans of them, since the ones around here love to eat mosquitos... and the mosquitos love to eat my daughters.
Anyway... Thanks for caring for bats (I mean that, they are very important and way too often feared and mistreated)... I don't know if you need a Bat Box, but I posted one today... The bats should have a proper home... no, roachy digs...
The model is based on a real one (actually 3 or 4) I made a few years back... I never had any bats inhabit them, only wasps and earwigs. I used to say the Bats were too picky, but it may just be where I hung them... around here they seem to prefer living near some of the swampier marshlands... blocks away, but probably much more buggy. At least thats what I hope is the reason... I fear many of the bats around here may have succumb to that white nose syndrome (fungus?). I still see them around though... hopefully they will get some protection by NYS before it is too late.
You can find the model at my ShareCG Gallery (click the banner) or copy paste this:

Good Luck!
PS- Mr Batty (I didn't actually name him that) was gently captured in a large butterfly net and released unharmed.

Thats cool. I'm no bat expert... but these are a wild species? I'm not 100% sure if you are fooling around, so forgive me if thats a stupid question... I looked up the scientific name and no results, so if this is for real (once again excuse my ignorance), congratulations on your discovery! If you have more info on it I'd be interested in reading more about it.
It is really hard to make tiny spandex suits... I have such a hard time sewing the sexy lingerie for the chinchillas... That really only makes sense if you read my Readmes.
Not that any of the extra stuff that I include in my readmes makes any sense.
PS... they don't have any super powers... right?.. it would be cool if they could fly or see in the dark... or something cool like that.
One other question... that is a bat that looks like a skunk... right? Not a flying skunk that looks like a bat... I once threw a skunk at someone and if you ever want to imagine something going not exactly the way you thought it might, well that was one good example... I really would hate to have to deal with a species of flying skunks... almost as bad as flying monkeys... who not only throw poop, but also use tactical bombing techniques to subdue their foes.

If it is what you are looking for, I hope you are able to actually get it in your cart... the store at DAZ is so wonky these days.
Thread: I miss Daz | Forum: DAZ|Studio
Quote - It's like a brick and mortar store grand opening with the cash registers on the fritz and shelves falling apart. I mean, what is going on here :-S
That's funny... I said virtually the same thing... I can't find the thread at DAZ (who could) but luckily I wrote it on a notepad-like app an a tablet while I was out waiting for someone, so I had it saved... This was probably about two and a half weeks into the site change:
"I feel bad saying negative things about this whole site revamp, but the whole thing feels odd...
Hard to describe exactly, but it is like you used to go to the local book store, you knew everyone there, it was a pleasant atmosphere, soft lighting, nice music playing and you knew where all the books you liked were... and then one day you go back and.... The front door requires an entry keycode, the first floor is a coffee bar,the second floor a tattoo parlor and for some reason all the books are located on the third floor, there is now an escalator- but that only works sporadically, There is a different way that the books are organized that you don't really get, The lighting is SUPER bright, the music is acid fusion punk polka jazz played at high volume, and there does not really seem to be anywhere to sit... Oh, and the bathrooms are now located in the basement.
So now you kinda don't really feel so comfortable there... yeah, its just a store, you are really only there to buy books and leave... but part of the draw of THAT place was the fact that while you where there you would see your friends that also shopped there, you would talk about what books you where reading, you get curious and check out some of their selections you would joke around get a coffee or tea at the snack counter and feel at home... yeah, the coffee bar is bigger and right at the first floor, but there are no more seats- only stools at counters... there are more stools but stools are not like chairs, you wonder why the books are are on the first Third floor (you get maybe, the coffee bar draws in people who just want coffee, but why a tattoo parlor in a bookstore and why on the second floor instead of the third?... in case people did not realize the store had one or that they themselves might want a tattoo? building code?), Yeah the stark bright lights are cool in an Apple store but, in this setting they are too bright... The new filing system sounds cool but it really is a pain because it is a lot different from the old one... The old book club you used to belong to has changed too and now you have to spend your coupon all at once or lose your remaining credit... you are not too crazy about that either and don't really see a reason for that...
You are not really mad at the owner... but you just feel kind of out of place... is it nitpicking or just disliking change?
When the owner said they were gonna fix the place up you said to yourself, "I hope this goes well... sounds like it shouldn't be so bad..."
Now you just feel sorta disappointed.
Ah, its just a store what's the big deal, right... you don't care when the supermarket moves the dairy section around or the beer is with the soda... why should this be a big deal?"
That was a couple of weeks ago (I guess). Since then I have learned a bit about the nature of the software they chose (if that is indeed is REALLY the software)... I have come across numerous articles that warn small businesses against going live before working out the bugs and at least having some familiarity with it first, most of the common (store) complaints and issues seem to more or less correlate with the ones DAZ has been or is experiencing. I would really hope they did at least a minimal amount of research before changing and where at least aware that these issues were quite possible, since I really did not have to expend a lot of time finding out about it.
I've been to a lot of meeting where a client sat down and pulled out every stop to make their product's design process go smoothly and they still got screwed by bad luck and unforeseen events... and I've seen clients who obviously care nothing about results go against all sane advice and warnings to proceed in the direction of ruin and STILL get surprised by the results.... You never know what happens behind the scenes. Good luck to them and I hope they take stock in the value of the community they helped create.
