Thread: Mimic2-where are the example animation clips??? (Attn Daz) | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL

Last weekend, I picked up Mimic 2 and the Poser 5-Studio Max plug-in, and have just started to get into animation. I've still got a lot to learn, but I'm having a blast, and the attached link (Quicktime - around 11 megs) is what I've done in my first week. It's a greatly shrunk-down version, but hopefully it's big enough to show some examples. Mimic 2 is very cool, and with the Platinum Club discount, very affordable! -JeffThread: New Freebie from Davo at Beyondbent.com - Sci-Fi character | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL

I'd rather they take the time to do it right, then have to suffer through something that was rushed out.

I picked it up last weekend, and so far, it totally rocks! The textures come in much better than the Pro-Pack version. It really opens up animation with Poser for me, as I'm doing renders now that would have taken solid days with the Firefly engine. Two thumbs WAY up! -Jeff (Attached link is to a Quicktime file knocked out with Poser 5, Mimic 2, and the Studio Max plug-in - about 5 megs)Thread: Poser 5 Pro Pack Upgrade Now Available for 3ds Max | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL

Thanks Josh, I'll give that a try. That's a setting I've never played with before, so you've given me something to work with. Here's another clip, this one with some sound. I also picked up Mimic 2 this weekend, so I've had a lot of new toys to play with. The animation on the body is a little un-realistic, but it's a start. Great work on the plug-in! -JeffThread: Poser Animation-Keyframe Curves-Arrrggh! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Ah- some very good advice. I like the breaking splines once I have a segment done that I don't want to mess with anymore. I'm gaining a lot more respect for animators - product descriptions make it sound like you just pose a few keyframes, and the program fills in the rest. A lot of work goes into making a smooth, natural looking movement! So far, mine have come out looking like someone doing tai-chi (sp). Thanks again! -Jeff

Thanks! It looks like I'll have to set motions up, and then check all the dials in the curve editor to keep things in place. I wish there was a way to define linear as the default method instead of the curved splines. Three dials for each body part to check gets pretty numerous. I tried the quaternion interpolation, but it looked like that broke each frame into a seperate keyframe, and I wasn't getting smooth motions in-between. Render, tweak, re-render, tweak, re-render, tweak, etc etc etc...
Thread: Does Poser Have a Future? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I think DAZ really has a chance to pick up the ball and run with it in the future. I've gotten really good results from Poser 5, but I don't use any of the stock models that come with it (except maybe the cube and flat plane from Props) - they're all DAZ figures and 'Rosity add-ons. I picked up Mimic2 today, and it's really promising, so I have high hopes for DAZ Studio, since they also make most of the core figures I make images with. If Curious Labs had worked with DAZ in the development of P5, things might be different now, but there's a lot of people who prefer to keep using P4. I hope that Poser does keep evolving, but without some of the key names who put a lot of blood and sweat into it (like Larry and Steve), it's just not quite the same. I think we all learned from P5 not to sing praises from software that's not on the shelf yet, but DAZ Studio is on the horizon, and I haven't heard anything about Poser 6. At least we've got something to look forward to! Just my two cents... -Jeff

I picked up the plug-in this morning, and it's been really great for bringing in the figure with all the textures applied in the correct places. There's a lot I haven't tried with it yet, but I threw together a scene and animated it, and the attached link shows a smaller version of the movie clip (3.9 meg Quicktime). I ran into a small quirk on the figure I haven't been able to figure out yet - when the camera is pulled way back, her skin is visable through the clothing in a few spots, but as the camera closes in, the areas close up. It may just be the figure - I'm not sure yet. Anyway, the movie took a few days less to render than it would have in the Firefly engine, so I'm really pleased with it! -JeffThread: +++++++ 'DigitalBabes' site update ++++++++ | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
