The fondness for the bathtub could be a clue... not easy to get the majority of moggies to take a dip. I bet they've got an impressive hen/catfish bill...Thread: Boy, is it dying here | Forum: Bryce
Quote - I think this has little to do with B6 - more to do with the PHP problems of this forum.
I agree. The only time I can easily use this site nowadays is early (06:00-09:00) in the UK morning, before the USA comes online.
I'm writing this at about 09:20 GMT, and forum response is already slow, and the gallery and marketplace are virtually unbrowseable.
I tidied up my wishlist yesterday evening, and bought 4 products. It took me 2 hours. This is why I don't post images, browse the galleries, or buy much here now.
I don't have these problems with DAZ, RDNA, CP or 3DC. Â

Excellent work on the model & texturing - textures are fantastic, and certainly make it look anything but a "simple model". It's very realistic, reminds me of my old school building! Looks like a good candidate for the marketplace to me - I'd definitely buy it. When I use a lot of trees in the distance or middle distance I tend to render them separately and put them in as 2D objects - they usually look just as good, and it saves space & helps to stop Bryce getting its knickers in a twist. Also I never save to the same file twice when working with trees, I do a "save as" every time, and just clean up occasionally when the trail of files gets too big!

Thread: Please go take a look | Forum: Bryce
Confess I saw the thumbnail in the gallery but passed on as it was so dark... Now I do take a look I can appreciate the enormous amount of detail and work you've put into it. With Bryce, Max, C4D and Amorphium (not to metion you) putting all that hard labour into it, I would say you need to step up the lighting to showcase your modelling. I know it's a dark ruined building with brighter light outside, but IMO you need a trade-off between realism and grabbing the eye. What about some extra light streaming in through the ruined wall? That would be one realistic way to introduce it. Also I didn't spot the little dog until I saw the wireframe - maybe it's just me, or maybe he and the GI should be a little more into the centre of the pic? As for everything else, the textures are great and the modelling is excellent - you deserve a medal just for mastering Max. I've been trying for 2 years and I still can't get my head round it!

Very nice, very useful set of maps, many thanks! Would make a very smart fence panel too. Looking forward to using it. 8-)
Thread: Sorta OT, what do your friends family think of your Brycing. | Forum: Bryce
I find that family, friends, colleagues will mostly give variations on "That's nice, dear," and some will even ask for a print to put on the wall, but the majority of them think the computer does it all. I suppose they have a point. I have had some comments in the vein of "Why don't you try some REAL art"? I.E. get a paintbrush. 8-(
Thread: OT.... DAZ Studio damages computer...Need to vent. | Forum: Bryce
There is a post in the DAZ Studio forum over on the DAZ site from a guy who had the DLL errors with DAZ Studio and got a temporary fix from running Dxdiag. He found that if he ran Dxdiag the problem went away until he re-booted. He didn't mention having problems with IE as well, but it might be worth you having a try. Go to the Start menu, select Run, and enter Dxdiag in the "open" box. If this does clear the problems you will have to run it every time you boot up your machine, but at least it may give you a temporary fix and allow to to use it. Might also be worth finding out if there's a local computer club in your area - could be a chance to get to know people who know about computers, which could save you $$$ in the future, and maybe eventually learn enough to do basic maintenance yourself.

I think you may have a corrupt registry. Look in WindowsSystem32 or WinntSystem32, whichever you have, and see if you can see NTDLL.dll. If it is there, then it's possible that something has removed its registration. The other possibility is that the file has been corrupted. If your IE is still working you could try going to http://www.healthycomputerclub.com/Software/PCRescue/index.html and try their free diagnostic check; it may give you some more information. I would say your next step should be to contact DAZ, with your error message and any extra info the above site gives you, and report the problem to them. If there is a possibility that one of their install processes has corrupted your registry, they should respond positively. It's probably better not to try fixing a problem like this yourself, as it could make things worse, or at least obscure the original cause of the problem. If you have a friend who knows about computers I'd invite them round for a drink! Also it may be worthwhile running a virus scan just in case DAZ studio was not the cause of the problem.

This looks really excellent - very much looking forward to these morphs and textures being available. BIG improvement on the basic model.
Thread: Totally OT - for the Brits in attendance | Forum: Bryce
You could look at Maidenhead or High Wycombe. Wycombe is a longer commute, but there is more housing, it's more affordable, and there are better facilities. I lived in Wycombe for about 5 years; it has a range of areas, some deprived, some very up-market, and some average. You would probably pay around 180k-250k for a 3-bed semi in the average areas. Wycombe's advantages are that it is surrounded by beautiful countryside & picturesque villages, it is close to the Thames (you can see the Henley regatta, feed the swans and watch the people with too much money trying to squeeze their huge motor launches under the low bridges), it has a good shopping center, a traditional market and a theatre, and it has good motorway connections and is only 25 minutes from London on the train. I still have the contact number of a lettings agency in that area, if you are interested. Windsor is a very up-market area, but very expensive. Slough is notoriously unpleasant, and Reading is heading the same way. Camberley is not too nice, and areas on the Thames like Egham, Henley and Marlow are extremely expensive, as is Beaconsfield. There is still some affordable housing in the tiny villages in the Wycombe-Maidenhead-Slough triangle, but they are all miles from anywhere, and anything that's cheap is likely to be a bit run-down. Drop me a mail if you're interested in any more info on Wycombe.
Thread: Why is Bryce called Bryce? | Forum: Bryce
...or for anyone who saw the TV movie "Max Headroom", there was a geeky teenager in that called Bryce Lynch who was developing a 3D animation package for a TV station. Being in the UK and knowing nothing about Bryce Canyon, I used to like to think it might've been named after him, until I found out differently. Good movie though, if a bit short. It was a pilot for a music program presented by a virtual host, if I remember rightly.
Thread: Help- I need Ideas for better atmosphere effects please! | Forum: Bryce
PS: there are only 3 terrains used in the above image. If you want to use this technique but memory is a problem, try saving space elsewhere, for instance render your tree (or the whole background part of your image) separately and merge them in photoshop. Re the atmospherics, volumetric world isn't likely to help as it will just lighten your picture. I'd be inclined to up the haze a bit and then play around with the sky settings (sky dome colour, sun colour, etc) until you get the effect you want.
