I had a copyright question about using screen shots of Poser in my lesson plans. I emailed Steve Cooper at Curious Labs and he sent me a reply granting permission to do so. You can contact Curious Labs at their web site under Customer Service. However, since you are using the actual meshes, you may be in a different situation. Better to ask now than be sorry later! scara
Thread: Poser, and also... what? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Being cash poor, here's some freebies that I highly recommend: DoGA - kinda like putting together models from pre-built sub-parts - but also terrific for props and sci-fi stuff - you can export 3DFace DXF files that you can import into Poser: http://www.doga.co.jp/english Terragen - for creating ultra-realistic backgrounds - save as jpeg or bmp http://www.planetside.co.uk/ Go to PCPlus to download a free, full featured copy of Cinema 4D - use it to create props of all kinds - and truespace 1.0 - both of which have forums here http://www.pcplus.co.uk
Thread: MIMIC | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
The students in my CG classes have been beta-testing Mimic for Mac over the past month and working with Poser 4 for the past four months. If there were a way of hosting their clips, I'd post a link to them. One of my more inventive students recorded a short clip of Eminem "singing" (I guess that's what he does?!) in Sound Recorder then imported the clip into Mimic, and then assigned the cat character to do the vocals with the soundtrack. It is an absolute scream! When this semester ends (around mid-June), I'm going to compile a CD of all the students' assignments and send a copy to both Steven Wright at Mimic and Steve Cooper at Curious Labs. If anyone else wants a copy, please email me at laptop@email.com Please bear in mind that these works were done by junior-high and senior-high students - not professional animators!

Thanks, but my Poser CD installs version 4.03. Went to CL's web site but couldn't find SR2 - they only have SR3 available for download.

Thread: More fun wih mimic in the mac!!! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
The RC versions of Mac Mimic that I've been beta testing do not even recognize the existence of WAV files, let alone open them - only AIF or AIFF. Yes, QT does open .WAV files, but Mac Mimic does not.
Thread: More fun wih mimic in the mac!!! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Macs do not natively support .WAV files, only .AIFF. There are a number of third-party programs on the market, like Myriad's Melody Assistant, Sound Recorder, and Ultra Sound Recorder (just do a search at download.com or zdnet.com) that can convert .WAV to .AIFF for use with Mac Mimic.

I've been beta testing it for the past week (RC11) and there's still some problems. I haven't dl'ed the latest (RC15) but try this out, if you have Poser 3: Select the Again.aif sound file from clicking the Mimic open folder icon, generate the Mimic pose, then launch Poser 3 from the Mimic toolbar. Delete any previous figure in Poser. Go to People and choose the Casual Woman in Posing Camera view. Apply the Again facial pose Mimic created. When you change camera views to Face camera, the figure is flipped 90 degree counterclockwise. This has been duplicated on 10 different Macs using the same release of Poser 3 with any of the standard People figures. If you're using Poser 4, any aif file included with Mac Mimic does not generate sound when used with the Animal dog. The jaws move but no sound accompanies it either in preview or when making a movie. However, and this is the strange part, if you create a WAV file, then convert it into a non-compressed PCM AIFF file for use on the Mac (since Mac Mimic cannot read WAV files anyways) the dog character works! Still hard at work testing at school...
Thread: Suff (virus warning) | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
As I teach my college students, an antivirus program is only as good as the virus signatures it "knows" - i.e., if a virus on your hard drive contains an unknown signature, nothing will stop it.

I have 14 academic licenses of Poser 4 running on iMac G3 550MHz 384MBRAM workstations at my school where I am teaching computer graphics and animation classes. I am currently working on lesson plans to give to CL for high school and college instructors to teach Poser 4 in the classroom. I can't give an exact completion date, but hopefully the plans will be done before July 1st (at the same time I am teaching myself the program I am writing the step-by-step plans that high school-aged students can follow). Adding my own licensed Mac version on my teaching workstation makes 15 copies.
Thread: Poser import into Bryce5 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I tried importing Poser 4 obj exports into Lightwave 7, but it hasn't worked to my satisfaction. If you buy Poser ProPack there's a Poser->LW converter that will install a plugin in LW. I downloaded the separate module converter from CL's website, but it still requires a registered ProPack previously installed so I bagged that idea. I've also tried LW's polygon smoothing plugin but I am not that satisfied. Perhaps Poser 5 or LW 7.3 will resolve this situation. I've also shelved Bryce 5 and am thinking about Vue but only have Vue 2 right now.
Thread: PC and MAC Users | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I run Poser on both my Toshiba laptop in Win98 and on my iBook in OS 9.2. I have Virtual PC with Win98 on the iBook, but I do not run Poser on it. In fact, I hardly run anything under Virtual PC because it is so slow, even compared to a PII 400 (the Toshiba laptop). Besides, I am also using Mimi with Poser and Mimi only runs on a genuine Intel platform, not an emulated one like Virtual PC. However, LipSinc is supposed to have Mimic available on the Mac sometime this month...
