I really wish you a complete and swift recovery.
Just think that these bitches of things happens in life every now and then, and most of the time we forgot about even the worst of them feeling okay again after.... a while

I've seen your gallery, and I admire your concepts.
Regardless the tecnique, that can vary according to the artist experience, this is a trait that I in fact am trying to improve, that's fleshing out the concept, the idea, by any means necessary, a pencil sketch, a photo shooting or a painting or an illustration done traditional way.
One must ensure that sketch reflect all that's going to convey in the render, the minimum result possible.
Then there's the enjoyment in persuing the way to achieve that, and possibly do more.
Personally I use Lightwave for I am in love with its Modeler, which can produce all the possible geometry I can want. Then I discovered ZBrush, which is ideal to tweak that geometry AND paint the 3d object, and its' a lot more really. But the Bryce Eye is my favourite, the render step is always Bryce final step. Sometimes postwork is involved, but really minor thing usually.

my friend, you did not offend me at all, your comment has been more than welcome in fact, we are not here to do the Sacred Flame Wars or whatever, but I think to grow artistically (both tecnique and inspiration sides) - so its pointless to be picky in our works.
Shoot some pic could be an exceptional base for our job, but I had to work on them to be suitable for the task - off Bryce for sure, but then again you have to work on a 2d software anyway to put some decent texture on your models, as using only procedural can be a lot limitating too...
Casually, I was catching up with the making of Angels and Demons movie, and I heard that they had to shot numberless digital photos to reconstruct St. Peters plaza in Rome (Vatican did not let them shoot on site)
To you and everyone that can be interested, I stumbled on some food in the free section here at Rendo, so you can check for some pizza and hamburger here

I used a slightly different hdr source, but I think the render is OK now. I changed the plate colour, doing it bit reflective. I had in mind something to add the idea of "steaming" hot cup of tea, like some cloud material or something, but didn't work out as I had in mind so I quit the idea

for the too much reflective tea, so much the better.
I was toying from some time with the concept; to use real
photographs in IBL environment. And everything had to be
mapped ...
to airflamesred: there are no limitation to use pictures in this
contest, and it have would been a shame the contrary.
Even more, we will open some huge consideration on what is the
value of a 2d image in ANY 3d package. Zbrush works excellently
on this thin line, the Bryce Terrain editor itself produces geometry
starting from an alpha, that basically is a BW image... you can
EXPORT this geometry in 3ds, obj, whatever. And then ? We
could tell from a 3ds file that we got that with a BW image...?
To end my thought, finnally you have to admit that pastries and
bread are killing stuff made with terrains.
The use of Image Based Lighting is a tremendous asset for
Bryce, and it would be fool's doing avoiding it. The use of 2d
textures are crucial in this, we don't put 2d flags with a
transparent alpha in our scene. We texture our objects, from time
to time... it happens...
Thanx for rashadcarter for the advices !
Sorry Dhama, I just hope that it was not my entry that pushed you
in dark mood, and of course I hope you reconsider.

I even used his small greyscale for Bryce Cookies... I love that approach, terrain, or lattices and greyscales... I ran into kitchen and photographed another cookie, some pottery, a couple of fruits, and a slice of bread.
I couln't resist to go for the IBL approach...
Let's just say I'm proud of the thing....
