got an entry that is rendering as I type... hope I can make it. Don't really expect to win this thing but I've been working pretty hard on it.

thanks Az, The base is actually a vertex object. I tried to make it spline object but ,for some reason I haven't figured out yet, I couldn't get my cross-section to extrude in a plain 2D rectangle. Things always kept getting warped out of shape, even though I thought I had all the settings right (pipeline extrusion method, symetrical in plane, etc.) So I ended up doing it in the vertex modeller and sweeping my shape along a rectanular path. You're right, I should've increased the surface fidelity on it from the beginning. I've tried subdividing it in the vertex modeller, with some rather odd results. I'll admit, I still have a lot to learn about the VM. Am working on re-making the base object from scratch to fix that problem you noticed, since I can't figure out any other way to do it. As for the colors.. that second post of mine was from the computer I use at work. It seems that the problem I was complaining about was just the crappy video card in that machine. Got back home, and it looks just fine. (both are Windows PC's) and, yeah, I was chuckling like a mad-man when I put that 'Boolean' in there... simple pleasures for simple minds. :o)

eeeww... just looked at this post again, and the colors on that pic just stink... I must've compressed the jpeg a bit too much. The original looked much better, honest. :::making a mental note for future reference:::

thanks kix, ppowellaa. I AM running the 1.1 patched Meta C on a Windows PC, so a lot of the improvements don't apply. I'd like to check out amapi someday, and I really like the lighting effects I've seen on so far from C2. I'll have to find a way to convince my financial advisor (i.e. wife) that there is no way I can go on living without that upgrade. Maybe she'll realize that a funeral would be more expensive than a little program. But until then I suppose I'll have to stick with what I've got. Doesn't look like I'm missing TOOO much that I can't live without for a little while longer.

what I would do (and have done) is to position where you want it. Then click one of the seven little buttons to the left of the nano-preview (shown in the pic above). When the button is blue it has your camera info recorded (alt-click to delete info and clear the button). Now you can move your camera around, change views, etc. to help position your objects. When you're done, click that button again, and your view is right back where you had it.

naw... the only one I ever threw in the lake was the rowboat, forgot to put a poser figure in it, though, so it just floated away. gotta re-download that one and maybe find an anchor to go with it. Hey, I've got all these parts laying around, maybe I can make one....
