that really helps thanks! u seem like a really smart guy...can u help me with this:www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php
the verticle edges of the keyboard look bad. the lower one i photoshoped a layer (made it worse). But ya see the blockiness above the keys? i think the answer may be in a shader, but not sure. i've tried to change the shaders for the keyboard but they only seem to effect the horizontal surfaces. where ever there is a sharp verticle plain, the rock shader looks awful. it would be nice to be able to match the terrain shader, which i thought i was doing by cutting and pasting the entire hierarchy of shaders from the terrain to the keyboard, then editing it just a tad. thanks!

another good question neyjour! I get confused, is a shader a texture? For example, if I save as an obj file, put that into UVmap, what do file do i need from Carrara to reconstruct the 3d? i need the .jpg right? and if it's embedded in the cbr file, you have to have Carrara to get to it. So I think Door #2 above would be the better option if using Carrara to create opjects to be textured in other programs on other PCs without a Carrara install. Or am I totally loosing it? thx.

Quote - I was just messing around with some fun stuff like texturing a terrain with rocks, duplicating it, weathering the duplicate and setting it to foliage. Sort of worked! (The edges were too distinct). My feeling on paths is that it really has to be smudged out and flattened and otherwise built specifically in the terrain. Then you could make a copy of the map, select the road, and use that as an alpha channel for the terrain's texture.
Hi there. I am trying to do something just like that! Well almost, but I dont have a clue. Please see:
www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php
What i want to do is add paths, and to the embedded keyboard on the terrain, make it blend in more, make the keys look weathered, add waterfalls to cliffs, and a lake where the basin is, have some ivy, etc. I am kinda new with Carrara (this is my first piece) but I know photoshop, and it seems it would be easier to pixel paint in later...but hoping for some Carrara tips that might save time? thanks for looking into this for me!!!
Thread: Do I need a better video card? | Forum: Carrara
thanks so much for that confirmation. well, the new imacs are on order! i'll try the farm again...the last time i set up the nodes i did not see much improvement (but that was on another project). the lan here is slow and so are all the other machines! do u know of a tutorial on rendering...there are way too many options in that room and i need to better understand which ones to choose. thx.

hi all, i hate to butt into your thread, but does any of this apply to final rendering from the render room? my system works lighting fast until i have to do a render with all the best settings (maybe i have overset, but i don't understand half of them (i mean is that photon torpedos there?). For example the job i am working on now:
http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php?thread_id=2709371
that render took about 10 minutes at very low settings. I then made some edits to fix things, added some fog, cranked up the quality settings in the render room, fired a photon torpedo, and now the render is taking 9+ hours!!! albiet it looks a lot better. my pc has been pegged at 100% all day. here is what the ms performance tab looks like, but i have never understood this panel:

i have a nvidea 6600 GF with 128. i know its not much, but it does everything else just great! But if it would help this situation, i think i can get something better. or maybe i should just move to the macbook pro...dunno...thanks for listening!

hey i am as confused as you are, but i do see an option to save the file with all [internal] instead of external. I wonder if Carrara is packing them inside somehow?! well, hoping smart folks answer this one...but i use poser too so i know what you mean...

Quote - miki, poser 7 toon render z-flattening didn't work on this one. some parts were lost.
Ms. nancy thanks so much for trying! not so good eh. It looks to me that Snowsultan's methoud works better then the wacro, but raven got excellent results...hoping he can say more about that! i am very happy with my poser 6 install and crazy runtime, so i don't want to mess that up with a poser 7 install, if i can avoid it.
Thread: Z-toon help needed re: SnowSultan's grand tutorial... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
quote]I believe this is what Miss Nancy is referring to. In the material room select your figure, and click on the Wacro button called 'Set Up Toon Render'. Holding down shift whilst clicking the Wacro will cause it to be applied to the whole figure at once. This is available in the Poser 6 material room as well as Poser 7. It also doesn't rely on z-flattening either, so adding other props/figures is easier, and all you have to do then is apply the wacro to them too in the material room.
The linked thread has an example of a toon render by me using the wacro in the material room.
Well, I tried the v6 sr3 wacro and that's a bust, just puts a really thick outline on everything in the scene. But what render are u using once you apply the wacro? your toon looks great!
I am just looking for a way to pose characters/props/scenes in Poser for my next weekly print strip, which i don't want to sketch at all (ha, keep dreaming). So i am putting in some up-front planning to save me a lot of time on the backend - to develop a process that gives me a good enough look. Another idea I am toying with is to go manga-style instead of colored cell. here is a sample of where i am at with that, using animedoll and import into manga studio. So far, no touch up or inking: see image here:
The big drawback to this character is that unlike Miki, i don't have any poses for this one, or clothes. i also need to find a matching male for whatever i use. I wonder if animedoll is both using sex morphs?
Thanks!
Thread: Help needed importing sets and props into Poser from Carrera Pro! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Well, I got uvmapper pro and while opening/saving in that produces the same results, i sure am learning a lot about 3d file formats - thanks to u and uvmapper. I followed the photoshop tutorial for using UV mapper to change textures and that's really cool.
But now i realize that the .obj file format does not carry along the texture and color right?! So what i am going to have to do for each object that i import is to apply a texture and color.bmp to the object once in Poser, using the material room? Oh boy.
please let me know if i did this right (to apply texture and color to the imported torus from Carrara):
I also need to figure out units, Carrara vs. Poser. Or do I just do all the scaling after import? thanks!!!

Quote - The bottle looks like it has a problem with normals, either the bottle has some normals or the polygons are reversed.
I would try exporting the objects from carrara then import them into uvmapper and then save them and import into poser.
thanks for the tip! i am new to 3d file formats and sharing between programs...am i supposed to get the color and textures for the earth when i export from Carrara? nothing came in but a globe.

Quote - try the z-toon with the poser 7 cartoon wacro. render at approx. 4X final desired image size, then reduce size in photoshop to smooth the linework. forget about poser 4 cartoon-with-line. they may have used something similar in the first appleseed movie, but it sux big-time IMVHO.
Whoa! u mean that Poser 7 has a z-toon macro? Ms. Nancy, can u test it and see if you get the same results or better as below, using Miki @ 72dpi and firefly render at draft? OR just give your opinion? I wonder if it works the same (flattened hierarchical methoud using embedded primatives). Well, i have a copy of Poser 7 uninstalled, not even sure if it's legit or a beta, and I have not been willing to mess up my valid poser 6 install which i protect like a small child. But if this strip takes off i might be willing to get the upgrade from 6 to 7, if the results are far better. Problems using current methoud: artifacts/ strange skin folds. Pluses: nice painted-look skin tones. So let me know! thx

Okay, SnowSultee i will write something when i am done with this experiment. I am thinking that i do need to go into the material room and play in there to somehow bring out contrasting colors. i like the skin on miki, that looks okay. maybe i can play around with lighting...i used a backlight on miki to try and get some shadows/outline. I still have not given up on creating auto-manga toons using this technique combined with one i am working on in Manga Studio...see this thread for more info on that:
