hi lr.... i hear all you say.
I guess the only question to ask.. if you were starting out new, as i am.. which would you choose?
I will probably have to go with V4 and work to perfect that as you have with V3 ?

Quote - Stefi,
If you are going to buy V4 you should look into joining the Platinum Club on the monthly plan.
V4 base cost about $30. For approx. the same price you join the club, get 30% off further purchases, AND many items INCLUDING V4 base, only costs 1.99. So you basicaly get to join for free. After the first month you pay $8 a month but get $5voucher I am fairly sure you can cancel at any time, at least you could when I joined 1/2 year ago. I intended to cancel, but I found it usefull so far so I'm stil in.By the way, I am not a DAZ sales person... just sharing my experience, and they seem to be nice to customers. (Which cant be said about E-frontier/Content paradise)
Also, did you see the thread about Apollo Maximus? he is free. Not a lot of content for him yet, but he looks good.

If you are aiming for realism out of your characters, V4 has to be the better bet............

Quote - I found the tutorials provided with P6 (and I presume P7) also very usefull.
Their manual, on the other hand, is only usefull AFTER you know what you are doing and only need to look up some detail like a definition of a particular parameter etc.
I also highly recomend the book "Practical Poser 7". (I bought the one for P6 'cause I only have this version, but I got the P7 book from the library and it's even better.)Also, there is lots of free tcontent available to start learning with, delay large expenditure till you know a bit more...
Have fun

Hey Hey
Many thanks. Yes the MacBook does support OpenGL, although it shares its RAM with processor (or something!).  As long as i can get a feel for 3D to start off its cool. I wont hesitate to upgrade if I find the eneed to. Not before I have put the current machine through its paces though :)
I will agree to Poser's defaults as i install.... if i need to tweak at a later date then again, I will.
Cheers

Quote - A MacBook Core 2 Duo with 2 GB RAM is a fine machine for running Poser. It's got enough RAM and processing power, even for complicated scenes.
I don't know how powerful the graphics chip in that MacBook is, and whether it supports OpenGL 2.0. That would be the main reason to switch to a desktop machine - dedicated graphics cards with much more 3D power, very useful when setting up and previewing your scenes. There's no need to install V3 and V4 in separate runtimes. Although it can be useful. When installing new content, it's best to start using Poser 7's organizing features immediately!

Hi Mark
Fact is I have yet to install my copy of Poser 7 until my new macbook comes next week. Soooo, talking runtimes with me is all double dutch right at this moment in time. Although I did read that you shouldnt load everything into a single run time or you will never find anything when you want it. Sorry.. cant be more help on that one :(
Well i have time on my hands for extended periods.. so wanted t invest this time wisley.. like learning Poser 7.... and thats what i intend to do, whatever it takes.
Keep in touch maybe we can compare notes at some point.

Quote - Hi drkfetyshnyghts, I'm a novice Poser too and I've only spent a few hours playing with Vicky 3 so far.
I can certainly agree that Poser is an amazing time sink, had to force myself to get some sleep at 3am this morning! Now I know why so many people on these boards complain of sleep deprivation.
I thought I'd ask here since the subject's come up and it will save opening a new thread. If you have both V3 and V4 do you need them in separate runtimes?
I've been toying with getting V4 once my wallet recovers from the Poser spending spree I had at the weekend. :DÂ
Sorry for the thread hijack.

LOLOLOL Rorr.... its kind of supposed to be Dark Fetish Nights... to inspire mystery and imagination !!! Has it not worked? :)
All of your points taken. I am really only, at this point going to 'dabble' in 3D with Poser 7 on a MacBook Core 2 Duo.. 2 gig ram... which is being delivered to me next week so I have yet to install. If I like it and want to get into more complex stuff and scenes, then I will see about getting a bigger spec Mac. I do have 20" Flat Panel Display to hook this machine up to so it should be ok on the eyes.
Thanks again, all comments and advice gratefully received :)

ya name drkfetyshnyghts reads like a real long Reg # Code.
Â
V3,M3,A3 are all the exact same mesh "called the unimesh" just tweaked differently.
V3,V4 are DAZ Meshes.
The newer the product the better but the newer the more $$$ You can spend alot of $$$.in 3D.
DAZ uses real high polycount meshes and venders make huge textures.
Â
Posetta poly count is not even close to the unimesh.
Â
If ya doing a game project none of the meshes would do.
Â
Don't know if ya using PC or Mac.
Â
3D you need a killer PC or Mac.
and real killer 3D Card.

Â
or you will just crash alot and never get anything done.
Poser is about the most unstable 3D app anyways.
The larger the scene the more unstable it becomes.
For huge scenes people use other apps like Vue or main 3D Apps like C4D.
Â
You never stop learning in 3D ever I've been doing this since 98 and still only know a peace of 22/7th of it all.
Â
Just have fun with it don't take it seriously and don't even bother trying to learn it all in a week.
We learn as we go but none of us really knows what where doing were just 3D characters  trapped in the so called real world. ;)

Hey SSAfam1.. no worries, i am under no illusions and never really expect anything for nothing. That way we cant be dissapointed. My aim is to make the most of what I do buy.. not buy merely for the sake of it. Maybe i will make V4 more feminine huh? :)

Hmmmmmm yeah thanks guys.. i do tend to always go for the latest versions and this will probably be the same with Vicky.
Any other models out there besides Vicky that are worth considering?

I am completely new to Poser, but 'basic' body shape means just that, with morphs, ad-ons etc etc how much of the basic remains anyway? God i have loads to learn !!!! Does anyone do much with the basic Vicky?
