I'm a little confused. So even if I get the terrain from RDNA I still won't be able to use it in poser 4. Right? So basically this is a lost cause for me. Right?
Thread: what is an .rar file? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thanks. So I went and got a winRAR program and as near as I can tell I used it properly. I got the jpgs, and there was a ppz file in explorer, but the poser file would not open or show up when I looked for in in "file/open" in Poser 4 or "import". So I am wondering if there is a trick to using this winrar or if the file is corrupted. Or? Has anyone been able to open this freebe from Russia? It is a landscape that looks really nice from the photos.
Thread: How many people have bought David? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Attached Link: http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?Form.ShowMessage=1806911
I bought David and agree that he is a huge improvement on M3, and in many ways even on M2. I will add, though that I have been having crashes and I don't know yet if that has to do with David or my computer set up, or if Poser 4 can just "get old." Like I put a Russel texture on David and loaded up three Davids to compare different poses. The third one always loses its morphs in the sense that it starts out at the default body and the morph dials won't work. Sometimes too when experimenting with such projects (I have been mostly experimenting with my new David) the computer (only a few months old) just stops or does strange things and I have to shut it down and reload. I don't think the David or Russel files are unusually large so far as I can tell (I am not expert at these things). So I think it might well be my new computer. Let me add that I have had other problems getting going with David, perhaps steming largely from my own ignorance, and you might want to look that over just in case there is more to the story http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?Form.ShowMessage=1806911 But anyway, I think David is a great advance and I am betting right now that the problems that I have had and still find frustrating are not in the model itself.Thread: Uninstall David? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Oh yes! An odd duck. And the manual is even odder. Thank goodness for the forum. I'll take your advice. Thanks again.

Thank you all for being so helpful. Let me update and for the record. But first let me respond to the easy points. Momcat: I said unzipp because I thought that was part of what the DAZ installer did. I don't know what else to call it. Marque: No, I did not install DAZ studio. Melanie: I use P4. Yes it was the rsrs in the geometry folders that I deleted. Fyrespirit: Good to know about poser eating rsrs! I may try your suggestion when I get a chance. I use windows XP and am using a low res map. Now let me tell you guys where things stand. I eventually figured out that whatever my problem #1 was I could delete the rsrs, load up David and save him in the figures library and add morphs etc. Then close poser if it did not crash and there he was working normally. The remaining problem #2 was that when I tried to apply the body texture poser would always freeze/crash after it asked for the bump.bum and I told it that I did not want to keep looking for the bumps. Of course I knew that I would have to convert them in the materials dropdown. But poser would not let me get that far. So I thought about it, and next I loaded my David from figures and found I could apply textures to the GENITALS figure and that poser would not crash and that I could save it that way. Ah ha! Then I could load up the genitals with the genital texture only applied and go in and change ALL the bump.jpgs to bump.bum With this done, poser could find the bums and there was no problem. The sticker had been that when poser did not find Davids body bums it freaked. [Rhaseltine: I guess in retrospect there was another way to do this, but I did not understand it at the time and so did not try it. I am still pretty much a novice at computer files and all.] Now I have what seems to be a perfectly functional David in my figures and I can shut down poser and the computer and he comes up normally with no problems. So now I am wondering whether I should leave well enough alone or go in and tinker to see what happens if I write protect the rsrs, and or uninstall the whole David business and reinstall David. Or? I agree with the praise that people have given to David. I am quite pleasantly surprised with the improvements in quality. I was never happy with M3 and always have to think about how to pose him so that the defects are not too problematic. M2 was okay, but still had more limitations so far as I can see than David. So fooling around with David himself is much more fun for me right now than going back and fooling around with poser itself!! I am not anxious to do that unless there is a good reason, now that I have a working model.

Note to sandoppe. Then I checked programs and you were right. There is a DAZ folder in programs with the remove items. I need to stop and think a bit, and then I may try total removal and reinstallation. But right this minute I am a bit dizzy.

First let me make a correction. The popup said cannot open, not cannot find. Anyway I deleted the rsr and tried to reinstall and no new rsr appeared. But when I clicked the characters box, David did load! Hold the applause. Then I tried sticking genitals on David. Same problem, can't open geometries. Same solution, delete rsr. So far so good. I have an anatomically correct David. So I go to put a skin on him. Genitals first, because I am still on figure 2, so that is easiest. That went okay. Then I tried to cover the rest of the body with a map. The computer just sits and sits. I end up with a white screen. So I start over and go through the whole business again. SAme problem to begin with. Have to delete rsrs in order to get David loaded. Then I try again to put skin on him. Same problem -- hourglass and white screen. Has noone else had problems with David?

There is supposedly 8416 KB of bldavid.obj in my geometries DAZ people, and a 6012 KB of bldavid.rsr So, Hmmmm

One should not have to go off and take a short course in how to use the marketplace. It IS a mess. It is NOT just new.
Thread: Modify MAT pose in Photoshop? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Faith can work miracles. I had figured out how to modify jpgs, but with the MATs could not find the jpgs! So your message motivated me to persist. Finally I found them. As near as I can tell, my problem was that the name in the textures file is not necessarily the same as the name in the library. So some guessing and hunting was necessary. Now my next challenge is to set up a new entry in library poses for the new modified texture. I can understand that it would work if I switched the modified texture for the original. But it is not clear how to change the texture reference in the MAT file and rename it. You seem to be implying that I would have to go into the code itself that directs poser where to look for the jpg. If that is the case, then are there some instructions somewhere for how to do that? Like a tutorial? I don't find it in the P4 manual. Anyway, thanks very much. I am farther along than before and have some options and better understanding!!
Thread: Nice webpage --gallery | Forum: Fractals
Too bad he left. He could make very nice contributions to the gallery. Probably busy! I still have not gotten through all of his renders, and it looks like most of them take a lot of work, unless he has it down to some sort of system that is not obvious to me.

Pretty neat! I thought you meant more like for fun, like parties. I likw cultural diversity. Maybe a little like the Amish near me in Minnesota, but they are really keeping their old ways and not recently returning to them. Both are interesting.

I have the grecian dresses, but would still like more variety, because not everyone dressed alike, and these DAZ folks look pretty prosperous. It is hard to think of them farming, herding, selling in the marketplace, etc, or as slaves or priests.

Randym77: you might want to double check. I think there were kilts of a sort way back, sort of like a belted nightshirt, a "tunic," but not tartan if you mean plaids associated with clans. I would be interested in what you find out.I'd have to look it up but I think I read this in a book with a title something like The Invention of Tradition. The kind of garment (tunic)I am thinking of was pretty widely worn in europe, though, and some versions I think are worn by like Mayan peasants even today. It was pretty fundamental for centuries. One version was sort of like you describe, with one shoulder untied. Common working men also wore simply a strip of cloth around the hips, with weights to make them drape, and we could use these in poser scenes too! Catlin: I dont know what they wear in Glasgow, but sure ancient costumes have persisted regionally and as novelties. By ancientI was not being technical, but only refering to common dress prior to medieval times. Of course ancient dress and customs survived alongside newer styles even into modern times. My point was mainly that we would be enriched with more costumes and living structures from antiquity and tribal people to work with.

I agree with the above suggestions. But let me add that also i would like to see more characters from greek mythology. Specifically, a high quality cyclops and satyr. Also peasant clothing for greece and other ancient mediterranean peoples. I love to look at the fancy costumes, but there must also be ordinary people for scenes. Also greek gods. There are a lot of greek temples out there-- great -- but not much to put around them, or in them. Other mideastern gods too. Also, i would like to see "primitive" dwellings like thatched huts that people in africa or the south pacific would use. One of the great things about 3d models is that they have the potential to build ancient worlds and the literature there is rich! So much of the history of western art involved ancient mythology and history, I would love to see more of what poser could do with these themes. Medieval and dungeons and dragons, sci fi are great, but the 3d community could do a lot more with ancient themes. That may be the new frontier for artists who like to dip into history.
