Thread: Power Pack Ex Now Available | Forum: Carrara
WOW!!! When I originally purchased the Power Pack I thought that I had kinda wasted money as they included the Power Pack in Carrara. Now I see a whole host of new stuff that I can add to it to make C more interesting!!! Thanks Brian! Ken

Thread: 'Bones' twisting and turning oddly... | Forum: Carrara
Kelley, Joints, as a rule are notoriously tricky. When combined with bones, it can be a true nightmare. I've found that ball joints are hell with IK. Custom constraints, not so much but make sure that you have your ranges set up the way that you want and the rotation order in the right sequence, or you'll see your bones go crazy! BTW... never try to undo IK moves on joints. I've found it tends to screw up the initial positions of the bones. Another BTW.... REALLY COOl MODEL!!! Ken
Thread: Soft shadows and studio-type rendering | Forum: Carrara
My bad, just looked at the render again. But still, it's is what I'm looking for and yes that does answer the question. Just going to have to play with it and see what happens. Thanks Kix Ken
Thread: carpentry 2 + a couple of questions | Forum: Carrara
Max, "Smoke and mirrors...." That will pretty much answer your question. Both of them. Explanation time... From what I can see in the clock image it looks like you have multiple lights and the shadows from the clock are giving it that floating feeling. Try adjusting the light settings to see if this clears up the problem... As for the glass... let's face it... glass is reflective. For realism's sake you need to have a value or color in the reflection channel. You want to make sure that it is a low reflection setting and you may try to make the refraction as low as possible (zero is good, but it's not realistic). Just keep adjusting the setting until you see results. In my experience I have given up too early on some of my attempts at shading. I just learned to keep plugging at it until I am satisfied. My 2 cents.... Ken
Thread: "Circles" on the water | Forum: Carrara
Oli, Easiest way is to use a Circular Wave modifier on the water object and tweak it to the way you want it. I don't recommend using above 5% wave height as this would look rather weird in the mug. Hope this helps! Ken
Thread: Transparency and Refection | Forum: Carrara
Waldo, It seems that you are trying to get the light to reflect. Light in C (1&2) does not operate like the real world (one exception which I will get to in a bit). Light will not truly reflect off of reflective surfaces and will only go through transparent objects if the Light through Transparancy is checked in the Render Room. This adds to the render time immensely! The exception is in C2.x. The caustic renderer under Global Illumination WILL do reflected light, but at a high render time cost (more so than Light through Trans). You're almost better off doing a work-around. Place a spot light in front of the mirrored area pointing out and then test the render using Light through Transparancy. Don't know if this will help, and I know it is not the answer you were looking for... Best of luck and keep asking questions! Ken
Thread: Writing CDs That Autorun in Full Screen Mode | Forum: Carrara
If you want to test something, check out Rad Game Tools and their Bink encoder. This will port over to an EXE and can be configured to run at full screen mode. The tools are free but have a plug screen that adds to the end of the animation. Just a thought. Ken
