Ya most of the freebies are 100% math no textures.
Well the size of the tile depends on what you are gonna tile it on and how many times it will be tiled. I don't much care for the tile value since it is a decimal number not a multiplier. For tile to work best they should be tiled and even amount, 2x2, 3x3, 4x4, 5x5, 6x6, etc. Well as a decimal this requires a bit of math. 2x2 = .5, 3x3 = .333, 4x4 = .25, 5x5 = .2, 6x6 = .166, 7x7 = 142, 8x8 = .125, 9x9 = .111 and 10x10 = .1 (this is the value for the U&V sizes) the main thing to remember is to not over size the tile. If the tile is 1000x1000 and you tile it 6 times the equivalent texture is 8000x8000 if this is being used to detail say a sweater on a full body render that is 2000 pixels high you will never see the detail in the texture since the program has to down sample the texture by about a factor of 8 (since the sweater area in the final render is likely 1000 pixels or less). If you have a matching bump map you likely will not even see the effect of the map. Now for the same render done at 10,000 pixels high, the tile settings would be about right.
As a rule I make 2 tiles, one small 256x256 and one large 800x800. If you find the res is a bit low increase the number of times it is tiled as this will increase the resolution.
Hope that helps some :-)
And you are welcome for all the freebies :-)

Well it si all uploaded and ahs been tested in poser 5, 7 and DAZ Studio 1.8. worked well in all of them. It should show up some time tomorrow, or can be grabbed on my site now on the "What's New" page.Thread: Making my own Materials for the material room | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Well the higher the gloss the wetter it will look. This is done using "Specular_Colour" and "Specular Value". The lighter the colour and the smaller the value the more glossy or wet it will look. Try a light grey for the colour and a value of 0.2 or 0.1. it is a good place to start. You can try playing from that point and see what you like more. You can go to white and 0.1 for the highest gloss.

These make a good starting place to study them and take them apart to see how they are made, plus you have my permission to make your own using mine as a starting point and then do what every like with them including repost them or use them on market projects.
mat poses in the Material room are easy, just save the mat as normal (poser 6 or 7 only) and look at the bottom of the save window. Gives the option of "Single Material" or "Material Group" to make a mat pose choose group and it will save all the mats for the selected object or character.

that's odd teh side planes should be almost as visible as the surface. Must be the lighting :-)
Thread: Aquarium lighting/materials | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
lol I know how that feels. I would double check the water as it looks to me like a single plane, I could be wrong though :-) The reason for checking is because no mater what you do if it doesn't have "sides" it will never get the watery effect you are looking for :-)

I find if tends to wrk best to apply a tint or texture to the liquid to make it stand out from the glass. Also it helps if the water is 3D and not 2D it looks like the water exists as only a flat plane, that is fine if shooting from above but from the sides it works best if the water has sides :-)
Soften the light too can help. don't use it at 100% but rather use a soft spot light at about 75% and a distand light set to 25% with shadows turned off on the distance light.
This gives a better soft room style lighting like there is day light comming in the window and the rest of teh light is reflected light.
Thread: Do I need V4 before I buy a character? I'm new! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
pygar you can get away with just the basic V4 but will not be able to use the custom morphs. All the skin textures will work and options like nail colour, eye colour as-well-as makeup option. You can add the morphs packages as you can afford them allowing you to use more of the package as you increase your V4 options.
I have V4 and the morphs++ package but honestly I only use the head morphs as most clothing items will not work with custom body morphs. If they do it will generally state it in the product description that it will also work with "Girl Next Door" or "Alice" (2 very popular characters). Now if it is a character set by Thorne or Blackhearted you do not need the expanded morphs jsut the basic character as all the morphs are 100% original and do not require the DAZ morphs. You caqn get V4 base from AZ for $1.99 if you have a platinum membership or $29.95 considering membership is $29.95 and then $7.95 a month if you are planning on getting V4 it is better to get the membership which gives you access to hundreds of items that are all $1.99 (or less) if you have a memebership. Also if you consider that each month you get a $5 discount on your purchases the actuall membership is only $2.95 a month. As long as you purchase somehting every month and there is generally something worth wile.
But the cheaper route is to look into the thousands of V3, A3 and M3 stuff in the market and using the links Acadia posted get started for much less. Once again if you don't have the morphs the head and body morphs will not work but the textures will. So you will still have access to all the skin, nails, eyes and makeup options. :-)
