HiYa
I agree with all. The review is quite even tempered on some of the "not quite there" functions.
Regards the Face Room - I ran an experiment all day yesterday.
I had been given the DVD collection of the sixties series "the Prisoner" and I thought that given the huge amount of good quality pictures you could reconstruct the faces of Patrick Macgoohan et all.
So I thumped the DVD in and started at around this time dumping off images into PhotoShop via the screen capture of PowerDVD - searched for the most likely images(do you know how rare a full profile and full face is in films?)
By maybe 09:00 I had whittled the umpteem images down to 4
fiddled with the resolutions and stuff and was ready for the Face Room...
My first experiment was with The girlie who played Sonia in the Girl who was Death (episode 14)
I agree with all that is said above - I worked and worked at that damn face, and you have to keep going with that face room session. if P5 crashes and you revert to a saved version - zip - nothing you can do. Pretty frustrating.
I found the position of green dots and the red lines really have no bearing on each other, concentrating on the red lines and using the dials do get the better result.
As a parallel test I tried the sam sort of thing with V2 and the CakeWalk tutorial. With a couple of one sided squares at 90 degrees to each other I began to get much better results. V3 looks as though she may be even better it seems.
So do CL go back to their Third Party and tell them to "get this working?"
I suppose we are in for a series of service packs as the various third party suppliers of Rooms for P5 get their act together and make the rooms more user friendly.
Still, early days...
PaulC As soon as I can I will post the test images. At the moment I am emarking on Patch Watch#2 of the 2002 season...

Hyya I found that this was a virtual memory problem. Poser (for obvious reason) like OODLES of virtual memory. I have Win2KSP2 so bear wih me. You need to put a virtual memory slice on each partition(if you've only the one -fine) set the virtual memory setting to the same value ( instead of a spread - so instead of,say, 500 - 1000Mbs you add 1000-1000Mbs) This worked for me I also found that if I used the P4 render I got the famous "insufficient disk space) and nothing. P5 is a memory hog -feed it lots and it will love you PaulC

Hey Rob I know- it was with some trepidation that I posted the above picture, mainly for fear of a right royal thumping. Its the time we live in. I wish that there would be a general lightening up of the atmosphere. All this talk of EULA's and stuff. Very heavy Sorry not to get back before - had a long phone call that demanded some thought. P

Hey ShadowNet Didn't mean for you to take it personally! I was just generally remarking on the general air of criticism that there seems to be about CL and their efforts- I had been in a meeting in the morning with some "smart people that were doing exactly that- and I feel for Kupa. ( the long long time ago stuff is the start of "star Wars.") Your comments are very appreciated.Really didn't mean to flame you at all. Paul RHaseltine Sorry - slip of the keyboard I wish Patrick Macgoohan WOULD watch the Prisoner with me - Perhaps he could explain what it was REALLY about.

Hi there
Just back from a pretty serious type meeting..
A bit of background - I've been listening to HitchHikers Guide to the Galaxy during Patch Watch.
Also caught Forbidden Planet on the SciFi channel yesterday afternoon.
Photo was taken on the Ridgeway with a Nikon CoolPix 880
on my morning walk.
I'm sure we will all get used to Judy and the face room.
Rather than get mixed up with "Kupa you promised" brigade (I see there is an embryonic "look there's 81 bug fixes - I told you it wasn't us" brigade")I would sooner let him get on with his job and enjoy doing discovering what Poser 5 is capable of.
Poor Kupa - even when he is doing the right thing he is still shouted at. I bet he feels like No 6 (I've been watching "The Prisoner" with Patrick Macgoohan)
Back to silliness.
So Shadownet you think a long long time ago in a galaxy far far away .. err thats been done hasn't it?
I leave it to my fellow Poserites to fill in the gaps in Lost in Poser - I wonder what the correct term is for a collection of Poser Users actually is?
you know like a Herd of cows (get back there Judy) or flock of sheep (are you there Saxon?)
I would attempt to suggest a "confusion" of poser users.
Back on the system for the rest of the day now

this is for c1rcle
I lust secretly in my heart for Susan Death. The funny thing is that Terry P has captured the essence of being a teacher (I know I'm married to one, sometimes she says things that could have come straight out of the" Thief of Time "
I hope Binky enjoyed his snack - CL looks as dead as one of his riders customers
latest DiscWorld is due out 4th November. Its called The Night Watch - a Samuel Vimes novel.
Hey Martindj would those pesky butterflies be early arrivals? "She who must be obeyed" stayed out in NZ for a number of months and goes into misty eyed rapture when ever anybody talks about it. Must go back some time.
Back to work for Narsil and his paralysingly boring book.

Well it's coming up to 19:00 GMT Time for Narsil to cook dinner. I've been checking the sie now since 07:00 GMT I'll download it tomorrow if anything happens got to wade through some work after dinner writing a book review "Physics of Chaos in Hamiltonian Systems." I can hardly wait :-( See you all on the morrow PaulC

Do you know -I was wondering that I have been running P5 in the background, photshop open, web on stuff like that Its slow but P4 was slow with the stuff I've been running. To quote Pratchett- I wish they'd find the butterfly that has been causing all this trouble and tell it to stop it. Remarks about Judy's strange attractor will be ignored ;-)(mathmatical joke there) check website - nothing

Just Sitting here refreshing the Curious Labs download page
c1rcle has the ight idea. Get the Pratchett out.
-Narsil today is dressed in a fetching "band with Rocks in"
T.Shirt (from a promo for the Soul Music animation)-
Checks web page - still nothing-
Saxon, I think you need to see somebody about these unhealthy urges.(Neighbours!)
checks web page again - still nothing
Seriously I think that the patch will probably be at least 20Mb (what with updated CR2's for judy - did they really plan to make her look like an Alien. You do not really notice it until you have done something in the face room
and flick between face room and pose rooms that until
you press the "apply to figure button" our judy looks distressingly like someone (something?) that would do strange things to cows!
Check website again - still nix
Oh well time for the book again (First LensMan by E.E."doc" Smith - thirties type pulp sci-fi)

Blimey I've just been playing with the clothing room. I think I had better go for a little lie down! I wonder why North Wilts is blest with us all Noggin and Raven? I must give credit to our Cousins across the water though. Without their efforts in trailblazing and some extremely helpful tutorials I would be far slower to pick my way through some of the quirks of this little gem. Right its time for me to stop wibbling PaulC

Hi There
My bundle of joy came around ten o clock (Malborough)
Having a Node Mode Moment - my first render was a tastful little number called soap bubble sitting on Rusty square
Install went really well and I had an easy registration too
This response code thingy reminds me of late sixties free form poetry.
Somewhat bemused at the general reports of slowness - even with firefly it chugged along quite nicely. This on an oldish AMD 1.2GHz with 512Mb ram (and an ATI Radeon)
Put the Poser 4 runtime into the libraries- stuff like that
Somewhat pushed the envelope to see if I could crash it ...
Nope the little bugger is still running in the background as I type. My test was a Vicky 2 render with the SteffyZ Gaia
Texture with a mop of comforming hair
pressed go and away the AMD chugged with me watching the task manager to see how much memory was committed (lots) but interestingly very little cpu time. (aound 60% with peaks up on the 100% but not for long)
The program is huge and its going to take a long long time before anybody can get their head round everything.
Before the install - defragged all of my hard discs.
During intitial setup I could render so I reset all of the hard discs virtual memory setting so there was this echoing void of disc space for the renders - it worked and is working still.
Must go now I have a Chrome marble on a steel plate feeling coming on.

I have had to keep my head down with "she who must be obeyed "also.. Have a sneaking urge for one of those new matrox parahelia cards and a triple display - and the new microsoft combat flight sim 3 last time I got into CFS she didn't see me for two days!("yes of course I can come to bed dear - but first I must pilot this mosquito into germany and fly back to Biggin Hill") Good luck with the job-hunting . I know how it feels to be made redundant. It seems that IT is going through one of its hardest times - I've been in computer graphics for over twenty five years and have never seen IT so depressed. ATI just seems to produce cards that are easier on the eyes
