Thanks for all the wonderful responses. I'd thought of making a American Sign Language library of hand and body poses that could be shared with others. I wanted to do more than just the alphabet. With that in mind, I think it would be of most benefit to use "standard" figures such as "Dork" (P4 male) or "Posette" (P4 female). That is the general idea. Obviously it would be a major undertaking. Heck I haven't even started the class yet. The "altruistic" part of me would consider doing the project as a freebie. But then this might also be a way for me to finally "go commercial." Either way you look at it, such a project might be easier if done with a partner or partners. The question remains how this would be done. I do have access to the "Joy of Signing," (our textbook for the upcoming course), and "The Galladet Survival Guide to Signing." Decades ago, two valued friends were "Hearing Impaired," and they were the inspiration for one of my life's goals to finally learn sign language. Alas, my friends moved elsewhere. Last I'd heard they wanted to return to Galladet for some reason, perhaps to teach.
Thread: CR2Edit V6 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
CR2Edit 6 looks like a powerful program full of so many utilities. I'd immediately use some of them and grow to use the others. The problem is that the author doesn't do a great job of just listing the features. The tour "rambles" on a bit, and fails to cover some things. CR2Edit is only for the PC. It looks like a wonderful program, but it might take awhile for me to use it to the fullest potential. And it's hard to ignore the $90 price tag. Especially when I need to visit the dentist today.

You can't use Tailored clothing unless you have the original clothes. The Tailored clothes just won't load at all. There is no need to use mover or any other utility to protect the original clothes.

I must be dumb. None of these messages or tutorials make any sense to me. I've tried some approaches, like the background approach, and they never worked at all.

This question has been asked and answered numerous times. In brief: 1.) Codetwister has no problems with people sharing Tailored Clothing. 2.) Many merchants have no objections. 3.) DAZ's biggest objection concerns any clothes that might cover their character's entire body. The classic example is the Bodysuit for Mike (or Vicky) that would, in theory, allow one to get Mike1 to look like Mike2. (In theory you would not need to buy Mike2 to have Mike2's morphs. In reality, it looks crappy when you try it.) The "workaround" would be to somehow encode the Tailored clothes so that you need to have a "key" file to use the Tailored clothing. One could use Mover, or RTEncoder (a newer utility. I don't know of anyone who has used RTEncoder.) You might want to do a search in this forum for "Tailor," and take advantage of the wealth of wisdom that has already been posted.

My biggest gripe these days is merchants who have absolutely never taken any time to contact their customers about anything. Heck, customers are not even notified when a merchant pulls his/her merchandise from Renderosity. And we're not told where the Merchant has the new store. When a merchant pulls his/her merchandise and moves it to another site, is there some sort of "reciprocal" support arrangement there?!

I suggest that you merchants notify all your customers when you remove your stuff from a store. I can't count the number of times I've wanted to tell someone where I got something, only to get to the Marketplace, and find the item and artist are no longer listed. Of course, no one left a forwarding address either.

sandoppe, it sounds like you picked up a worm, virus, trojan or something like that. I've had a cable modem for a few years, and never encountered the stuff you describe.

Actually, you missed something. There is something wrong with the poses themselves. I paid good money for them too. Apparently there was some stray info referring to hair or something. Pose creators should always use "blank figures" to create poses. Poses should be saved without any morph information as well. The only surefire fix is to create a "blank figure" for each character. The blank characters have no morphs. Create a folder and copy the poses into that folder. This gives you a backup. Apply each pose to the blank figure, then resave. Be sure not to save any morph info. Once all the poses are resaved, in their safe format, you can copy the original "rsr or png" files into your new Pose folder. Multiply this work by hundreds of poses and all your characters, and it's loads of work. Someone should create tutorials on this one.

Um, well I couldn't conform the hair, because it is listed as a "prop." And it didn't do any good to resave the poses. Vicky still lost her hair. So now what?!

PBooost allows you to create Banks. You switch back and forth between the Banks. PBooost is a wonderful utility. You ought to follow this link to PBooost's home and read more. The program costs about $20, and is worth the money!Thread: Updates from Curious Labs | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
"The company is financialy stable, and has no plans to sell either Poser nor the business." Pardon me, but I heard those words before, a year ago, when hundreds of employees at my former employer lost their jobs, the company went "Chapter 11," and sold out to another company. A year later, the news remains dismal as yet more employees lose their jobs and the "new" company continues their previous plan. By the way, you should not advertise an old service pack as if it were a new one.

Do your homework. Check compatability on hardware and software. If you get Windows XP, you'll most likely need to update or replace your Antivirus and/or Utility programs, and maybe even your CD burner software. Are you prepared to invest that money? Before you decide on Windows XP Home or Pro versions, research. Do you need the extra stuff in the Pro version? Most average users do not. If you don't need the stuff, save yourself $100. If you're ready to make the plunge, do some advanced prep work. Find the Windows XP version of all your hardware drivers. Find any available updates for your software. Backup all important data. Once you've done your prep work, you're ready. You might want to wipe your hard drives and reinstall everything from scratch. Once Windows XP is installed, you want to immediately go to the Windows Update site and take any updates available. Yes, Immediately!
