A) While it's true that hair for the P4 models doesn't work with Vicki "right out of the box", with a little tweaking all of them can be used with her. B) Some time ago I d/l'ed a set of Vicki hair that, I think, Traveller put out, very similar (& in some cases better :-) than the default P4 hair. I just checked & couldn't find a readme so I can't say for certain, perhaps someone else can help with an I.D.
Thread: Just a hint about the Vicky skirt problem | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Good to know Diane... I have a "grass skirt" tex & trans map ready & waiting to post to free stuff as soon as I can finish testing it with a non-shearing morphable skirt :-)
Thread: HEY!!!--- those with new clothes pak update | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
In addition to the info contained in the other thread, I've tried the "patched" skirt alone, with a single Vicki figure, as well as with multiple Vicki figures in the same scene. I've even tried mixing & matching new & old skirts. In each case the thigh length morphs work perfectly but the evil chuckle from the hip length morph is getting louder :-)

ziggy as someone who has just barely scratched the surface of modelling props, I can certainly appreciate the time & trouble you put into what everyone should have considered a valuable resource. As to the "naysayers" just blow them off. I'm firmly convinced if you walked down the street handing out $10 bills a certain percentage of people would complain because it wasn't $20's :-)
Thread: Asking again-Vicky skirt length morph not working | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
otay here's my specs if it will help.... 400mz PII, 64mb RAM, 2 15 GB HD, running Win 98 (original PC edition) on the C drive & Poser 4 (with the latest patch installed) on the D drive. The problem occurs with any incarnation of the skirt, (post fix) I even tried with a scene containing 4 Vickies... 3 had the old skirt, 1 had the fixed version. All of the old ones morphed (with the shear of course), the new one just sort of sat there & laughed evilly :-)

Just so you two don't feel too lonely I've got the same problem & haven't found a workaround for it yet, except to touchup in post production. For the folks at Zygote... I've tried deleting & reinstalling the original d/l, extracting the update to a temp folder, & installing the corrected cr2 & rsr files by hand & still no hip morph for the skirt. One oddity I did notice is that both old & replacement cr2/rsr are exactly the same size. One further piece of weirdness... I have a character I saved with the old Vicki skirt before the update came out. When I loaded her today the morph works on the old skirt only but still has the "shearing" effect the patch was supposed to fix. However, If I put a new one on her from the library the morph is dead.
Thread: Upgrading Poser 4 -> 4.02 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
A full list of all the bugs fixed by the various patches, along with the latest incarnation can be found at... http://host-1.ghosteffects.com/poser/patch/fixes.html

It may sound simplistic but all I do/did was open two different windows & drag & drop the files from the temp extraction folder(s) to it's appropriate Poser folder. Relatively painless & it only takes about 10 minutes. On a related note... I wouldn't complain too much about the format. I'm at least grateful that Larry/Metacreations/Curious Labs are gracious enough to provide the patch for free.

Thread: Is it legal? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
This from Chad at Zygote in an earlier thread... (begin quote) "If I can, I'd like to add a little, too. Feel free to quote me anywhere else this subject is being discussed. Like Scott said, copyright infringment of software code (including 3D models) is not measured in percentage of change, as it is for traditional media or binary images (not to mention music, stories, etc.) Even a small amount of usage of someone else's programing code is illegal. For example, if I wanted to write a program that had the exact same features as Adobe Photoshop I could, of course, do that. However, if I took even a few lines of code directly from Photoshop and put them into my new code it would be illegal. (Much less starting from Photoshop's actual program code and then going through it to make modifications here and there until I felt I had hit the 51% different mark.) That having been said, you will probably see why it is still perfectly legal to make, sell, and/or give away a "plug-in" program for Photoshop (authorized by Adobe or not). Users will still need to buy Photoshop itself for any add-ons to be useful. As I said, copyright infringment of 3D computer model data is determined the same way as software code Someone can change models to the point that they think they will be unrecognizable the makers, but they are still stealing from whomever created the model. As far as the "plug-in" analogy goes, if someone modifies one of the models included in Poser, for example, (ie: creates a morph target for that model) then they are working within the Poser license agreement. It is also OK if they want to sell or give away their work (morph targets) to others who have purchased Poser (since they also own a license to the same models). This is, in fact, benefical to all parties involved and makes Poser a more desireable product. They are essentially paying the person for their changes to the model and not for the original model. Problems arise when people modify models (to create morph targets, new models, or whatever) and then pass those changed models along to users who have not purchased the original models. (For example, as a free downloadable model rather than in a format which requires posession of the original model, such as .cr2, .pcf, etc.) Obviously, there is no way that any company or individual can make sure that everyone is following the terms of their license agreement. Zygote appreciates all the efforts you people in the Poser community have made to prevent violations of model license agreements (Zygote's and otherwise). Thanks. -- Chad Smith Zygote Media Group " (end quote)

bbascuba.... try opening the bum file that won't load in a graphics editor, (PSP, PS, et al) I just had exactly the same thing happen to me & it turned out that the bum map I was trying to load had the wrong file extension! Instead of converting the format I had inadvertently, (at about 3am :-) saved it with the extension I wanted & then spent the next hour swearing at my computer in general & poser directly because it couldn't find the file.
Thread: Let's have some fun! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I got turned onto Poser after it was referred by someone on a graphics mailing list I was subbed to. She saw some of the stuff I posted that I'd done in POV-Ray & told me... "You gotta check this proggy out". With my usual impeccable timing I bought Poser 3 a week before version 4 came out but fortunately didn't get a chance to install it immediately & the store manager was very understanding & let me exchange it. :-)

Both PSP (6.02) & Photoshop (5.5) come with Digimarc plug-ins embedded so you can put a watermark in your pieces. The basic service from them is free with addons available for a yearly subscription fee.
