I thought muzzle flash could be made with a small orange volumetric point light with strong dust setting. I would have to try something and post a pic, but some problems makes me uninstall vue for some times... If it can helps... :-)

That's all true, Mike, two or three objects and a good amount of time on searching new setings could make great pictures and teach you a lot. That was the purpose of the 'Paladine' picture in my galery. One character that I took as it come from zip, and a dive in material editor... For your picture, why not a little grainyness on the wall and on the floor ? On the floor, a really little reflection could be cool... Continue this kind of amusement for our enjoyment... :-)

You can also try anim8or, an excellent and easy to use modeler apps. The only requirement is a OpenGL compatible video card. And yes, there is both an online manuel and a downloadbable manual (in pdf format) and tons of tutorials.
