Completed the terrain, but instead converted it so it could be used with the Fluidos plugin. To use a terrain with Fluidos, it must be an enclosed object, not just a single facing sheet. I used the zero edge filter with a setting of 80 to get the narrowest and steepest edges, converted to a vertex object, and then enclosed the bottom with the fill command. I then tessalated the bottom. Could just select the top and add thickness, but that increases poly count compared to selecting and filling the bottom.

Ended up working mostly on terrain with the intent of using the plugin that creates shore lines where water meets terrain. Great concept.

Have been falling in love with the NLA panel now that I know how to preserve functionality with my custom figures. Wow, wish I had had a better grasp earlier. This is a very powerful tool.
