Hi all
GaryNH
well the obvious answer is the most stable would be Linux(why oh why do we not have a linux poser????)
other than that it looks from the posting about the subject that a stable fully patched Win2K Pro is your safest bet (and that is what I am putting my copy on)
Likewise I have a mixed Linux(mandrake)/Win2k server/Pro
I didn't go XP mainly because of the licensing procedures
I do wonder that the fancy XP GUI is more trouble than it is worth.
I experimented with something called Object Desktop that made it possible to skin win2k just like XP (in fact Object Desktop is incorporated into XP now)
I stopped using because of the huge system overhead and the fact that some programs just did not like being put in a skinned environment - quicktime would hard crash my machine.
At that time I was using an Nvidia card and threw it out for a ATI Radeon (I liked the colours better on the radeon)
So if I were you I would stick your bundle of joy on the Intel machine. No incompatibility with promise chips and AMD-although I use an AMD on my main system and is stable even when seriously overclocked.
I gibbering again
Hopefully speak tomorrow (if my system is in one piece!)

I emailed Curious International about the "shipped but no tracking order" - they seemed as mystified as me. Half an hour later my Poser 5 is at Dublin. I suppose I'll receive it tomorrow. "It must be Thursday -I could never get the hang of Thursdays" Arthur Dent Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy

Thread: About a known problem with my GypsyRose set - please read! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hi Rob Firstly thanks for all your hard work on the Gypsy Rose pack. I had an error about not finding the .obj .. Found that by putting the cr2 created by objaction mover in the geometry folder into the character folder everything worked a treat Using Poser 4.03 and mover 1.01 Keep up the good work PaulC

Well we can always look on the bright side of life(cue for a song?)
We all probably be in the position of downloading the service pack before we get our little bundles of joy.
I do feel that CL could have implemented a "first come, first served" basis
At least we would all know where we were.

Thread: SteffyZZ textures: Gaia or Asia/Yuma? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I have Gaia and Edo. SteffyZZ supplies a very full readme on how to lighten textures, create bump maps and so forth. IMHO they are the best textures out at the moment.
DaleB is quite correct that you need a lot of memory to handle the textures - but you can reduce the textures down (using Photoshop or similar) to make things a bit snappier.
The fun come when using Edo, Gaia, various mesh heavy objects
(cars and stuff) and a some lights. And you thought Poser 5 was slow rendering ;-)

Thread: No P5, so still playing with P4, What you reckon on this? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hi there
Lovely render. You have caught the big skies of Salisbury Plain just right-I live in Wiltshire - Stonehenge and Avebury are very near.I frequently do a "reality check" walk around Avebury Ring- normally after checking with my P5 order.
They are beginning to plan hiding the main A303 in a tunnel and landscaping the plain so Stonehenge will appear to be back in the middle of the plain.
To those of you who have not been there is a rather ugly main road that cuts across the plain within half a mile of the main Stonehenge site.
I can think of at least three places in Wiltshire alone where Merlin is supposed to be buried (Stonehenge, West Kennet Long Barrow and a place called Merlins Mound in Marlborough College)
He was/is a very active sleeper!

I emailed them on the 17th of March got this "It(Poser 5)is due to arrive late this week so you should receive your copy early next week. You will receive an email once it ships." I imagine the one legged Irishman is reading the map upside down!

Thread: basic internet question | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hi Serth
Theres really two parts to the problem.
1 Your operating system - your operating system monitors and checks the modem. You can change the connection properties to your Internet Service Provider( with Win 2K open network properties right click the icon for your dial-up to your ISP and choose properties and then options, on that page there is a a pull down menu labelled "Idle-time before hanging up". Put this to a silly time(I have four hours!) and Bob's your whatsit
A neat trick here is to use your mail program. I do not know the program you use but this works for most. Look for the frequency that the mail program checks the ISP for new mail. Set it to automatically check for mail every seven or eight minutes. The ISP normally looks for traffic up or down line every ten minutes, The mail program checks every eight minutes so it "resets the clock".
Check that your browser hasn't got a connection manager too(look in tools, internet options with Internet explorer.)
If none of the above works the are some good shareware tools to monitor your connection state. Do a Google search on them...
Good luck
