manoloz... good call on the wrapper. I didn't know anything like that existed. It may be my wishful thinking but it does seem to move a little quicker now.... still nowhere near as good as D|S though. I guess I'll have to do a lot more looking around next time a buy a computer. There is no way I can swap out the graphics card in this one since its a laptop. I'd be better off buying a new one from what I understand. It is a bummer though to know that i'm missing out on a lot of speed in an already slow program.

Sadly EF tech support said it was up to my card maker to fix... nothing they can offer other than turning off hardware acceleration. But my card hasn't been updated since the machine shipped, and I doudt that will change. But to you does it sound like I should be seeing speeds between the two packages that is about the same when moving models around the scene?
Thread: new system that will run P6.... what do you all think? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
My only trouble with a graphics card came with the upgrade to P6 from P5. My current laptop (also an HP) has an NVIDIA GeForce FX. Unfortunately I doubt I will find a laptop where the GPU is not integrated into the chipset. The issue with P6 was that although NVIDIA had worked out the kinks with efrontier, no one has written a firmware update for this card and no one I've talked to seems to think it's their responsibility. So I'm pretty much stuck with no hardware acceleration on this machine if I want to run P6 (it crashes at boot up otherwise). For other applications I like the NVIDIA brand but because of that little quirk I'm stuck with very slow movements in the preview window. I will probably look into 7200 rpm drives but I didn't see that option on the customization page so it may be a size/power issue on laptops only get back at 5200 rpm. I'm not sure if HP was advertising this computer, but yes it is that brand. It's a zd8000 series. My current laptop has the same screen as this one I've speced out, and yes it is one of the best screens I have ever looked at. It's got such a high pixel density that really high resolution renders look spectacular. So as far as everyone knows that Turion chipset will run poser okay? I'm "downgrading" from a 3.2 GHz Pentium 4 HT but as far as I can tell poser doesn't take advantage of hyper threading so I'm hoping to actually see a performance increase from a purely processor standpoint. I'm also not sure that you can compare gigahertz to gigahertz between Intel and AMD.

I'd second that about WW, but for very complex figures (like very decorated or realistic items) you can get some odd looks. The other drawback is you loose some built in morphs. You might be able to re-inject these, but I havn't tried. The only other thing i don't like about it is that "air space" areas such as between the breasts are a problem if you try to go much smaller. Despite all that, I'd buy it again in a heartbeat if i had to. I use it a lot. Just be aware that it isn't the same as if someone modeled a peice of clothing just for that new figure or morph.

Thread: External HD with Poser? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Sweet, I'm defiantly doing the RAM upgrade for my work application, which is a high end mapping and spatial analysis package that cost more than my computer itself=/. But it sounds like from what you guys are saying going external is worth it as well. Is there a good utility to use for managing the migration and ongoing library maintenance? I've used a text editor to change some references before... but surely there is something made for that purpose that is a little more automated.

I didn't think poser was setup to allow distributed renders... or even HT or duel processors. But this wouldn't be my first time to be wrong today.

Thanks Destro75, after idea 1 and 2 it seems to be working again. Though I'd still like to know what exactly I did... no looking the gift horse in the mouth i guess.
