The first person writes the TOS (or any document) often with a certain intent in mind. The next caretaker reads what is written and interprets the words for himself or herself then enforces what is written. I just feel the TOS is a bit off, and the example in the TOS is a bad one; better none at all. Worst it indicates a record may be kept somewhere where Rendo officers write comments about users. I hope that is not the case, but if it is that folks realize the legal implications.
There was another thread where a member (Razor something) said it succinctly and wrote about keeping it simple: If an admin doesn't like something, just remove it and explain to the user why it was removed. I liked that. Sorry I don't remember where.
Pretty much, though, you and I are in agreement Ambient Shade.
Moreover, if you are granted access to play in someone's sandbox I do tend to think the owner of the sandbox has the right to create the terms of engagement, and if you don't like them you should accept that you can play or start your own sandbox elsewhere and not complain about it.
I was commenting more on the potential legal ramifications on what was written (it seemed awfully casual) since TOS has all those legal types of things in it like about what courts in what state will hear disputes. It would be bad if a member were written up by Rendo casually or haphazardly and that was then interpreted later perhaps by a court as being more insidious than it really was, say just for violating TOS by calling something 'ugly.'.
Thread: Looks like nearly everyone has gone Genesis | Forum: DAZ|Studio
I am vested in V4, V3 and their orbiting characters. I haven't made the Genesis transition because I've stayed with Poser during the software split.
From what I have seen, Smith Micro may be shooting themselves in the foot, however, since they've instituted a 'phone home' strategy for their software (initially without telling people), killing it on your computer if it doesn't get a positive response in a timely manner (Specifically Game Developer, not, as far as I know PPro2014). This is apparently a step in positioning their product as a subscription service, the way Adobe and Corel have done (I understand Corel is optional; you can buy OR subscribe; I think Adobe is not). I guess it will be up to the Poser community, whether they choose to accept this in the long run.
Partly as a result some people, I hear, are responding by actually pulling their poser machines and making them stand alone, so they only have to deal with Smith Micro and getting a code maybe once a year (of course, there is also a feeling that a high horsepower 3D Graphics machine runs faster and leaner if you don't have to load it up with anti-virus protection). Cheaper Tablets can now access the web and the data can be screened and ported to a secure stand alone graphics machine.
What this means is that while I believe very much in Poser software, Smith Micro is almost actively driving me to adopt the DAZ product, which is still Free, and gratefully so.
But I really don't see improvement beyond V4 worth the cost - for what I play with - in going to any of the Genesis characters and their accessories. In my opinion, there is still not enough variation in the characters. The detail has gone up, but I liken it more to all the improvements that they made in 78 RPM records, fussing with variations in speed (some are 80 RPM) and needle widths before 33RPM Long play came out.
The short is the next character I plan to invest in as heavily as I did with the V3-V4 Series will probably be one that doesn't exist yet. The 33RPM Long Play of Characters (3D is still in its infancy). "My" character will be one that can take a full detailed body scan from a system such as an Artec (Luxemborg/Russia)see below, Reference Bloomberg:
...and map it to a rigged 3D universal mesh. From there clothing and Jewelry designs are more likely to be made for real people and then to be actually manufactured to fit.
Here's a low-cost approach to scanning via Kinect:

I think this is what is coming.
Thread: Renderosity has updated the TOS - Please Read | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I think there are some bad definitions here. Well intentioned, perhaps, but over the line in terms of squelching opinion.
The trolling definition is the most obvious. If a picture is 'ugly', to someone that is an opinion and it is as valid as 'a picture is pretty.' Less kind and gentlemanly, but still an opinion. I feel an admin is welcome to pull such an opinion -It's Rendo's Forum, it is representative of their company and the company attitude, and, for lack of a better way to word it I don't mind playing to their style - but to put it in someone's record as a black mark may be at best questionable, especially since any record Renderosity keeps may be handed over to someone for legal purposes.
I didn't see a mechanism in the TOS that allows a member to review his or her record and add their side of the story if Renderosity has in fact put black marks or adverse comments in a member's record. Just think if someone at Rendo recorded in detail the horrible things someone was doing online, but then erroneously mis-entered it into another members record, for example. As Renderosity indicated, such a record is a legal document if it can be handed over to someone who asks for it from outside the company.
The Google defintion of Trolling is better than Rendo's, and I think is best left without an example:
troll2
trōl/
verb
gerund or present participle: trolling
informal
make a deliberately offensive or provocative online posting with the aim of upsetting someone or eliciting an angry response from them.
fish by trailing a baited line along behind a boat.

Thread: Grab Bag? | Forum: MarketPlace Customers
My question in this thread, the reason I came here:
If I have an order with more than one item that meets the $3.50 criteria (say 3 items in the order) and I apply the grab-bag, do I get one matching grab-bag per item (three grab-bags) or is it exactly one grab-bag per order?
I'm assuming one grab-bag per order, but I thought I'd ask.
Thread: Grab Bag? | Forum: MarketPlace Customers
"Be warned! There is no choice of product or any indication of what you're going to get. I've just purchased an item from my wishlist and used the Grab Bag. I have ended up with a random product dumped into my purchases, something I've no interest in or use for.
I suppose I haven't actually lost anything but it does feel like misrepresentation. "
The Grab Bag is a fun thing! The whole idea is that you're not supposed to know what you are getting, other than it will be a quality item representing some participating vendor's work (and every item I've ever received has not been a shlock or second rate item). While there have been items I haven't used yet, there also have been items that I would not have otherwise purchased that turned out to be really enjoyable and an unexpected pleasure! They gave me a new appreciation for a vendor's work that I was otherwise passing over. Other examples are 2D picks that two years ago I was not really into, but now two years later I am glad to have them in my library.
Thread: Highlighting for already bought products is gone | Forum: MarketPlace Customers
Well, me too. Except that I learned something. My Icon for purchased items has never changed colors that I've noticed, but when I go to the page it would say 'purchased' if I had bought it. And that's not happening.
I accept the explanation above, though Rendo people should know that once they train subscribers to depend on Rendo telling them it was purchased, they are less likely to mentally check their brain or any other records they have. In my case I almost bought something I already just bought thinking "I thought I just bought that, but I guess I meant to but didn't and switched it out at the last moment." However, I did check records and then went through several items to verify the 'purchased' loop was turned off and that this was not an error but rather repeatable for all previously purchased items.
I feel There should be a bigger flag somewhere on the site noting when the 'Purchased' function is turned off and that it shouldn't be buried in a promotional note.
Thread: Error when placing order | Forum: MarketPlace Customers
I received the same "cURL error 7:" error as well for most of the evening. I tried to post here in the forum but then the site locked up and my AVG antivirus said I was attempting to link to a bad site with a severe virus and it said that AVG had successfully blocked the virus. I may still have a screen shot of what came up if it didn't get deleted when I shut down and re-booted. Was Renderosity the victim of an attempted hack? I emailed privately but haven't received a response. Before anyone gets jittery, I should note there were a couple of open Yahoo items (their video links or news items; eg the Malasyia Wing) on the taskbar and lately I trust less what Yahoo may autolink to than I do Renderosity, though my screen should not re-direct without my permission.
IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN I MAY HAVE FOUND A WORK-AROUND TO SUCCESSFULLY CHECK OUT
To others trying to check out, as an FYI I found a work-around that worked for me. After re-booting, instead of checking out using my 'credit card' I tried the link to Paypal which you can do without signing up for their services. You do have to leave name, address, email and telephone number. I did not get the email confirmation until this morning, but everything else worked as usual and I was (apparently) able to get the item ordered. I say apparently because I haven't tried accessing it, though I do have the receipt and order number.
Thread: Has anybody seen A3 Expression Files?? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thank you all!
To answer hborre I am looking for all A3 Expressions (and pose sources) but the reason and the timing for the question is that Renderosity has brought back a lot of expired items that will 're-expire' July 31 as best we've been given. AND Prime may be increasing prices. Too many items to wade through and the search engine doesn't always pull up everything. I thoght somebody might have seen something there or remembered an artist that used to specialize (as ilona and i13 do in their areas).
I have 'expression magic' for V3 and I didn't know there was a package for A3 too. So I learned something there. And Tigger Springs, now I have to go back and see if I have the A3 Professional bundle, which I very well may have! Good to know that the A3 Realistic might be worth trying.
Free stuff is always good. Only problems I've sometimes seen are (a) only one pose or expression for the effort of the download and archiving (b) expressions that are free sometimes changes the morphs, which is bad if you've INJ'd a character. I looked at the list. It will take time to go through it. It looks excellent and pretty darned comprehensicve.
I was surprised there is so little out there for A3 in terms of expressions especially. There are some nice character sets that don't look too tooney.

Thread: Prime membership renewal??? | Forum: MarketPlace Customers
Hi!
The short answer is that the "Prime" button for Renewals currently has a price of $29.99.
Yes, there is a Thread in the Prime forum entititled "Prime Anniversary?" that has been going for a couple of days that says the same thing:

I guess I should add, "Do I assign the Gift Certificate? Do I just give them the code from my account??
Is there a place for instructions?
Thread: A Swinging question | Forum: New Poser Users Help
Out of curiosity why do you move the Red Cross to the RIght? I think I move either the green cross to my hinge center (say on the left in your example) and leave the red alone or sometimes I move both together to the hinge, but I don't move the red opposite, if that is what you are doing.
Thread: London Taxi? | Forum: Community Center
I guess I was thinking about the user; no intent to put a burden on Rendo Staff. But since you mention it.....! :-D
Thread: is there a quick way to reload the runtime database? | Forum: Community Center
I should mention that UBCD is Free. It sort of creates its own operating environment that its utilities can live off of. It is also nice to have if you want to run programs and NOT have your hard disk invloved, in the case where you think there may be a virus that inserts itself into an operating system.
I am not an expert in software, so if I can do it, pretty much anyone can do it. It just takes time and patience.
