At first, realizing this is Danish in origin, I thought they were egg case fragments from wandering benches, but then I realized that wandering Danish Benches only exist in my warped imagination.
I have no idea what these are, but for some reason I think they might be shells of some sort? From some kind of clams or muscles?

Ha! I found that lovely Star of Texas on the side of a truck in one of the more grotty areas of Chicago!
And while we're on the subject of Texas...have you noticed how similar the Texas flag is to the Czech Republic flag? Actually, have you noticed the number of Czechs living in Texas? I think there are more Czechs there than in Prague!

I have to say Helle, that your most recent post in this thread is gorgeous. For me, half the fun of art is also being able to eat it!

As always, this is a stunning array of photographic art, and I'm always intrigued by the various artistic visions on display here and in the photography gallery in general. It's always an honor to be selected and a BIG congratulations to everyone selected. Great work here, as always, and it's an honor to be a part of it!

WOW! This is an amazing selection and I'm flattered/honored/touched to be included in such a cool range of images. I remember seeing a few of these (by other artists) and being blown away. Congratulations to everyone selected.

Hey...I'm really late with this, but CONGRATULATIONS! This is a well-deserved honor! I'm giddy over here as I sit before my monitor going "Hey, I know this guy! Yeah, his gallery DOES indeed rock!" Congratulations.

I'm sure the selection process isn't t the easiest thing in the world, but I've been following LWITG regularly and I'm always impressed with the wonders I find here. Again, congratulations to everyone chosen; quite a few of the works featured here have inspired my own photographic (and even literary) journeys and attempts at growth. I'm glad that one of my images was chosen, especially since it's one of the images that is quite significant to me. I'm also aware of a couple of "new" talents in the gallery, and though I know one of them personally (and have known this person for more than 10 years) I'm glad to see a familiar style here. Great work on the selections and again, a hearty congratulations to everyone selected.

It's always a priviledge to be selected for so wonderful an honor as LWITG is. There's always astounding work in here from many artists/photographers who inspire me. I want to say congratulations to EVERYONE selected, especially those I know; such acknowledgment is super! For those I don't know, this is always a wonderful way to forge new links and gain inspiration. As always, this gallery is filled with top notch and envelope-pushing work. It's great to be selected and inspiring to simply SEE the works featured each week.

The selection here is amazing, as always, and I'm proud to be a part of it. I'm always surprised when my stuff gets any kind of attention, but then as I look at the other works here, I can see how THEY get picked. It's an honor to be chosen and congratulations to everyone else chosen.

Thread: WHY... | Forum: Photography
I've always loved photography. I love art in all of its forms, though I have to say that I am primarily a writer, but images, whether painted, photographed, or computer generated, tend to spark my creativity. Photography fascinates me though, because no matter how "artistic" or "abstract" it may be, it's always focused on the real. In painting, in writing, in any of the other forms of art, you're drawing on an inner vision, whereas photography is almost purely external...you're forced to work only with what's there and NOT what you feel should or could be there, and paradoxically, this limitation opens the art form up in so many unexpected ways and after being at it for a while, I've discovered that yes...you can "put" things in an image simply by recognizing your physical relationship (or your viewer's physical relationship) to whatever the photographic subject may be. And all of that is just a fancy way of saying that photography is fun, and it's one of the few ways in which grownups are allowed to play.
As for an element of the art form I'd like to strengthen or improve? Hmmm...I think the only thing I'd "improve" would be the attitude that many people are prone to take in regard to digital photography. Of course it's always great to know the actual techniques of seeing something, capturing it, and developing the captures in a dark room, but there's also a profound measure of skill in digital photography, even if the digital photographer doesn't have the "training" that many traditional photographers have. Of course this can be said of any digital art form, and so in general, the thing I'd change is just the prejudice I perceive at times AGAINST the digital.
