Thread: So is poser 6 better then poser 5 more powerful? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Poser 6 renders better in Firefly than Poser 5 if you use Manual settings and get them right. It seems (and no I don't want to start a flame war!) that SR2 causes more problems than it solves whilst SR! for Poser 6 is )relatively) stable. However, whichever version of Poser you have, memory management sucks, even on a machine with 1.5 gig of RAM and 2 gig of virtual memory.
Thread: Why do most asian characters NOT look asian? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
And it's not just the Asian characters that are wrong. Load V3 and turn the 'French' dial in the '+' direction. before long she takes on Asiatic features. Oh and Khrys, I like the way she's looking, though the nose looks odd for some reason I can't yet fathom.

Thread: DAZ3D....better than POSER? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
In some things, DAZ|Studio is better than Poser - it's lighting and camera controls are way better, the interface is more friendly. It's memory management is better. It's far superior in value for money, cos it's free! In other things, it demonstrates its youth: it can't handle Poser magnets, dynamic clothing or strand-based hair. It's shader is a nightmare and creating realistic skin can be difficult to achieve. You can do more with Poser, though it still has huge memory management problems. Daz|Studio has shown a promising start, it will be interesting to see how well it addresses the above.
Thread: Problems with Poser 6 textures | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I've also found that with most textures, it's better to set Firefly to Manual settings - I start with the above, and alter as necessary. I have 1.5 gig of RAM, so a bucket size of 64 is kewl; machines with less RAM may want it set to 32.
Hope that helps
DD

Casettes How much RAM on your machine? That affects whether the pc will struggle with bucket size of 64

My business site has this at teh botom of each page: 'This site is developed to be W3C compliant. This allows this site to be viewed by the majority of browsers. Unfortunately Internet Explorer is not W3C compliant and you may experience a degraded viewing experience. Here at Optimum Health we like to use Firefox but there are many other W3C compliant browsers you could use.' As a basic measure, if you have to use IE, switch off all Active X elements you can. If a site relies on it - tough! My machine has AA software, AdAware, SpybotSD and 2 firewalls, including a hardware one in the router - IE still makes me vulnerable if I ever have to use it, so I choose not to.
Thread: Poser 6 Out of Memory? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
nightsong - I agree that SR1 is awesome; I'm not convinced about SR2. I've found another error - it won't open files saved under SR1. Dizzi - I know the faults are unrelated - just giving Angelous a further example of memory related probs in SR2. I too have experienced the saving bug.

and very much a post SR2 error so be careful. I installed SR2 and had no problems with it until I had a complex pic then ran out of memory on a 1.5 gig machine! It did the same with dynamic clothing and with rendering a pic with texture filtering on. Memory problems are still a huge Poser issue and will continue to be, I suspect, until/unless they rewrite the core program.
Thread: Why do you hate magnets ? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
doh! So simple and I've wondered for ages what 'split' meant - never occured to me that it would let me apply a morph to one side of the face only! just shows, sometimes, it pays to RTFM - or know someone who has. Thanks Opera - great help Nic

Any hair by Koz - I continue to be amazed at the man's generosity in making it all free. Oh, and sassy hair, but I get weird artifacts in it sometimes when rendering
