@arraxxon and rutra,
that beeing true its a very fast solution for me when I have an architect sitting next to me just wanting to have the shadows lighter :-)
IÂ dont always have the time to fiddle around with all the settings. I have tried raising gain and then the shadow side on the object went lighter but the shadow in the ground didnt. When raising the sky dome gain the shadows on the ground went lighter but also the whole image and it looked washed out and flat. So I was quite happy with this quick fix solution for now.
But then again IÂ very much appreciate the other strategies for the future. IÂ still have so much to learn :-)

IÂ am using Vue 7.4 xStr right now. I 'll check what I can find with the light source. Only was tuning in the Atmosphere Editor.

Quote - I am hoping at some point, to get some free training available on the site.
I was trying to make a business with free papermodels against donations ... millions of downloads and 3 donations. Then IÂ introduced buying against money and suddenly people were paying. It's crazy but IÂ guess the world is not ready for what I would have thought to be a more mature system.
Anyway, both your tutorials and content products are great! I think I got all Vue6 stuff and am happy with the new Vue7 products so far. I recommend it to everybody wanting to work with Vue seriously! Not only did I learn how to use Vue better but also tips and tricks that helped to save time.

also cgi renders often tend to be "overrealistic" imho. you might find lots of tutorials in google etc on how to make a render look more like real life photos if that is what you are after.
i agree with silverblade ... i dont need to copy reality with renderings but actually like it more when it has its own renderstyle.
Thread: Tip on using area lights :) | Forum: Vue
thanks for the tips ... i just started to use an area light for a desktop lamp in an interior scene.

if you look at the vue mark numbers over at cornucopia forums the best cpu (in terms of render speed)Â is the new core i7 although it might still be a bit overpriced as it only was introduced late last year and requires its own motherboard and memory. the next best and cheaper thing would be the above mentioned core 2 quad core.
vista 64bit with lots of ram will make sure you dont run into low memory problems with vue.
i dont know about graphics cards but i guess all the modern ones are ok.
if you really want to go crazy have a look at this link helmer.sfe.se/
hope this helps

i played around and this looks great. a new path to experiment ...
first world-cylinder mapping on a cylinder with square noise for bump
and then i tried the standard chipped material and reversed the bump direction with an opposite filter node.
now i am looking forward to the rock my world set as i find it very useful for learning to study materials from the pros!
Thread: any idea what this is? | Forum: Vue
its vue7 xStream which is the same as Inf i think.
i just used the default athmosphere scene added the objects and rendered. did not alter anything.
the open-gl worked fine. i actually found where i could set the clipping for open-gl.
i think it must have been some bug or bad state of the system as it worked after restarting.
sometimes i get the feeling that vue has a personality of its own. after a long day without breaks it likes to do stupid stuff more often ... :-)

just when i thought i would not need rock my world :-)
your example looks very good and more in the direction i was hoping to be able to go.
i will try your settings and see what i am able to do.
