Thread: How Do I Select a Detailed Image | Forum: Photoshop
If you are going to be working with a fine detail for selections, or just need to know how to make difficult selections, then get this book. "Photoshop Masking and Compositing", by Katrin Eismann.
PS. She also has a dvd on the subject.

Thread: Need some tips on recoloring hair in a photo. | Forum: Photoshop
Create a new layer on top of the layer with the hair, chane the bending mode to color on the new layer. Use your paintbrush with the color you want the hair to be and paint rignt over the ares of the hair on the NEW LAYER you just created. All you really have to be careful of is staying within the contour of the original hair. You can load what you just painted as a selection by ctrl-clicking on the new layer and then manipulate that further. via adjustment layers or directly manipulating the new layer.
Thread: Bert Monroy. The Master | Forum: Photoshop
I agree that Bert is an artistic master of PS. However, for someone who know PS insiide oud, upside down, waking and sleeping, it has to be Deke Mcllelan(sp?). The man is scary in how facile he is in PS. He awes me with his casual genius. Not the art guy that Bert is, but rruly a marvel.

Thanks. I have considered using a marquee for the twirl but that does not get at what I really want( at least I don't think so). the marquee technique would limit the twirls affect to the selection size plus any feather that might be applied. I was looking for the ability to affect the whole image but have the center point of the twirl ( the twirl axis) be in the corner of the image rather than the center. I suppose if I made the feather large enough I could affect the whole image, but I am assuming the affect of the twirl would diminish the further it got from the original selection. Still, the feather technique might be an acceptable workaround.
You might think "what a cheesy effect", but i work a lot in 3d and sometimes have to build my own texture maps so these techniques will be used more as displacement and bump maps. As for the rectangle question: I wish to build some textures for gingham type cloths to use in a a particualr 3d project I am working on.
The rectangle repitetiton technique you mention, Tantarus, sounds just like what I was looking for and will give it a try. Thank you both.
And beware. Will return soon return with more annoying questions.

Thank you for your quick reply, aprilgem. Searched for bolts with no hits. Not to worry, there is always the brute force method.

Your girlfriend asks "how does this dress look?" and you reply that she needs to turn up the transmap a bit.

Your thinking about introducing Stepahine to the Da Vinci man. Yes, it just might work.
