THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: DXF Info

Can someone explain or point me to a resource that explains DXF's. Frankly I don't get it. I recently downlowaded some dxf models and one ( a can,i.e a simple cylinder) was more than a meg. I know OBJ's come with texture maps but DXF's don't? Is this right? If so why is that simple cylnder model so big? As long as I am confessing my ignorance, what is the deal with DXF blocks and layers? As you can see, I need help...and anyone that might offer some would be greatly appreciated. dxf mode

A dxf that gets exported in layers is a model that lets you select various parts, each part being a 'layer'. Bryce will import a layered dxf and show it as a 'group'. You can then ungroup and texture each layer individually, rather than just having one texture for the entire model. If you're going to work with dxf's you might want a freeware modeler called Metasequoia. http://www1.sphere.ne.jp/mizno/main_e.html It has a tool that lets you smooth the mesh (which is great for those low quality freebies), and a tool that unifies the faces, fixes overlapped faces, etc. Its also got a great metaball section.

I need me some metaballs dammit! Just on this subject I got plant studio the other day and I had to export as a 3ds file cos bryce 4 wouldn't open the obj files. What's the prob there anyone?

Thanks so much for the help. I am still perplexed why the simple cylinder was so big. Also I don';t understand why, some sites shows thumbs of dxf models with thei skins on, i.e, textured, if the don't download with the model.
