Thread: Poser crashes and lost in the wilderness... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
thanks everyone, I retried the download link and it worked this time. It's funny, but Smith is the only website at the moment that I can't get into. Everything else I have tried works except for that one. Now all I have to do is try to get Poser to work and I hope that the service release does the trick. It seems like if memory is correct that it did the trick before. I still haven't figured out what caused Poser to crash in the first place and this is the first time it has crashed since I got it all straighten out when I first installed it. Anyway, let me see if this works, keep your fingers crossed!

That's one of the links for Smith that I've been trying to use and all I get is Explorer can not display page or page not found. I've tried every link that Google, Ask, and Yahoo could come up with and none of them seem to work at all. Fustrating is not even remotely strong enough word that could describe my state at the moment....
Thanks though

Thread: Understanding Vista: what lies ahead | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I was a beta tester on Vista and now have Vista ultimate and have never had a problem till recently see my earlier thread 'Seriously...' or so I thought till this morning. Sure Vista gets your ok before it does something but can turn those off, I don't simply because I have deleted too many files over the years by accident. Vista is more stable than XP, and the big problem is that 3rd party companies didn't upgrade their own software, even when they knew that Vista was on the way. Example, the reason I had to buy a new DVD burner was because the old one which still worked fine, didn't work with vista. The software actually only went up to win98 not even ME or 2000, much less XP. I got it to work by finding a 3rd party driver file that worked under XP. Samething with my flatbed scanner, although it's software went up through win me. This had gotten me wondering just how many problems people have with windows is actually due to some other software that hasn't been upgraded since win 95. It still might work under win me, 2000, but by the time you get to XP, problems are starting to crop up. Then you start looking at Window since it is the operating system, not a software problem from you scanner, printer or what have you. I am sure that the people who know software and hardware can usually fix these kind of problems with no effort. But the rest of us, usually don't thing about the 3rd party software that sits on our computer. I know that I usually don't. It's always something to with Windows.
Here's what happened this morning...
This morning, I got the directions on how to remove the software from a DVD Burner I had bought and the software wouldn't load under Windows Vista. The burner was made by Sony and the software is made by NERO. The cleanup program supplied by NERO removed the earlier version of the software and loaded the new software and it works under vista. Here's the whoops. After it cleaned the earlier verison of NERO that didn't work, I checked my email and guess what! everything was there. All the stuff that I thought I had lost was sitting where it should be including all my documents and everything. So here's the question, Did Vista knock everything like I assumed or was it the NERO software? I got the update for Vista on the sameday that I got the Burner. The Nero Software hung up and wouldn't finish loading. That night I got the update for Vista rebooted the computer the next morning. So was the screwed version of NERO or Vista that caused the problem.....
Inquiring minds want to know.....
Earlier this weeked I posted a message warning about Vista and the upgrade that I had thought had destroyed, erased or whatever a bunch of my files. But when I got NERO straighted out, all and I mean all of my stuff was suddenly back. The Problem it seems was with NERO not Vista...

Yeah I do know that, one of my friends has been pointing that out to me for years, He is a dedicated Mac fantic. He has last count 7 of them from a note book to the new monster machine. My problems with Mac goes back to when I was trying to get my first new computer. I was looking at and this shows you how long ago it was, at a Swan 485/25 with a 50 megabyte harddrive (or something like that) and at whatever Apple computer was out at the time. When I called Apple to see about getting one they were less than helpful and the guy I talked to and I will never forget this basically said that, "...if I couldn't afford to buy an apple then an apple was probably too good for you and that I should get a cheap pc", basically he was telling me that Apple computers were too good for me. So I did I got a great PC, not the swan, for less than half of the cost of the Apple and it had bunch of software titles and I got a free printer as well. Over the years at the Comdex shows when they were still being held in Atlanta, I had several other run ins with the all mighty Apple company. I found their people snobbish and so smug that that if they stood out in the rain they would drown from having their noses so far up in the air. (And no, I wasn't looking for trouble when I talked to them, I was seeking infomation. At that time I was still considering an apple because I was just getting into computer graphic at that time.) There are several things that I still like about Apples but they still leave a really bad taste in my mouth whenever I have to deal with one. My fantic apple friend even gave me one of older apples to pay with and it was fun, but in the end I gave it back.
Over the years and through I don't know how many different computers as well several operations systems, I still think that for the average user and I put myself in that group, that for convience and ease of use, Windows still is the best solution. I don't think that windows is the end all to end all operating system, that MS thinks it is, but I have yet to find something that can replace it and still do all the stuff that I want to do, and as easy as I can do in under windows. If something comes along that can do that then I jump ship so fast you won't even see my shadow.

Oh, yes everything is gone! I have discovered that my story files still exist under the User folder as well as some of my other stuff. I have spent the morning digging through folders and searching nearly every folder in windows looking for stuff. (Do you know how many folders, sub folders, sub-sub folders, etc. there are on your computer!) As far as stuff goes, it wasn't as bad as I thought, but all my emails, address book, as well as all my stuff in poser which really hurts is gone. Any thing that I added into poser as characters, poses or saved files went out the windows, (small pun) I finally got my email back up after two hours of waiting on the phone and about 30 seconds to fix the problem. The reason that I post this was to warn other people that might have Vista or even XP as apparently it was the security patch that was downloaded last night and that patch was suppose to fix the hole in windows, well it did by filling in the hole with a lot of my stuff.
I really don't like APPLE, so I probably would never buy one, besides having to go back and buy all the software for it would more than double the cost of the computer. I don't know if you remember it or not, but I liked IBM's OS2 Warp which in the early days was Window's main rival. It would run anything Windows would run, was stable and had a lot of bells and whistles for it's time. I tried Linux, but it doesn't run the stuff I use. Being stuck between a rock and a hard place is no fun. I sent MS a sarcastic message to their tech support and am waiting for a reply. I'll let you guys know what happens....
Thanks
Butch
Thread: Gallery Nightmare | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I was away for a few days and came back to the new galleries. Like most of the changes done here over the years, I am not to fond of the new gallery interface. It is chunky and I find it anoying. But then like most of the changes here over the years, once I got used to them, I found that I liked them.....
Part of my displeasure is that I just loaded Vista, the new Operating system by MS and trying to get use to it as well as the new gallery changes was a bit much to handle at one time....
Thread: So I was thinking about Microsoft, the release of Vista and poser | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I am a beta tester of the Vista system and have a thread here going about it. So far, I really like the system. It is easier on the eyes than any other windows system, the interface is really easy to use once you get use to it, I still have problems with, by trying to make it work like winxp rather than as vista. I truly didn't think that anything could out perform winxp, but a full version of vista is going to leave winxp in the dust. It has so many neat things going in it, that I can't wait. This is going to be the system, I think that will be around for a long time.
I am not an employee of MS nor am I getting paid for being a beta tester. As a matter of fact right now, being a better tester is causing me more problems in doing my stuff on my computer than it might seem it worth. For thing, MS hasn't gotten a complete set of updates of all the drivers for the various 3rd party software as yet. For example, my external DVD burner, won't burn new backup DVD's yet, it will play the ones that I have already, but I can't make new ones as of yet. But that right now isn't a big problem.
The best thing about Vista as far as I am concerned it just how smoothly it makes using my computer. Things just go more smoothly running Vista. Oh, Poser 5 runs great on Vista actually better under Vista than under winxp. I haven't had P5 lock up once under Vista yet and I have done things that under winxp would lock it up every time!
Thread: OT Windows Vista | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Actually it seems to work a lot better. I have always had problems with poser, hanging up and just not working, (I have Poser 5), but it really does seem to do better in Vista. I just rendered a scene that I had given up rendering under win XP because it always hung up, but not only did I render the scene, I am have rendered it a second time changing the camera angle, and no hang ups. If for no other reason this would make Vista something that I would have to have!
Thread: (OT) Favourite "B" Movies | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Oh No, I had forgotten all about the Frankie and Annette movies! Add those to the list. And No, I don't own any of the Elvis, Shirley or beach movies. I always mean to buy those but instead end up buying some dumb movie like the matrix, starwars, or some other lame movie instead of those hollywood classics....
