Use household lights, clamp on lights, to mimic your 3d environmental lighting. Use something in front of a light to diffuse (make light not so strong as bare bulb) like a sheet, or pillow case for stronger effect. Use white cards (like posterboard) to 'bounce' light and reduce shadows.
Making the transition from 3d to photography is a matter of imagination (real world style).
Maybe you could post an image of what you are trying to accomplish and some images of where you are at with it.

Thread: coffee filters | Forum: Photography
You can also use coffee filters to set your white balance. Two (bleached) filters together work best and give pretty close to 18% gray results. To set WB try the following;
1>Put lens in manual focus so that it does not hunt for a focus.
2>Hold the filters over the end of the lens and point towards light source(s) but never directly at the sun.
3>Use the image as your WB image and set camera to custom WB (This differs from brand to brand of camera - refer to your cameras manual on this part)
4>Put lens back into AF mode! Take pictures!
5>When you change scenes or the light changes be sure to take another WB shot!
6>When done be sure to set your WB back to Auto or whatever you normally have it set to!
I have, in a pinch, used a white dinner napkin at a wedding to set WB in a horribly lit room. Worked wonderful!

Thomas
