If you got poser with a magazine recently, try looking on the directory of the cd...that is where I found the manual after going half mad searching the net for it. It only showed up when I went through Start/Run/letter of your disc drive/Browse (using windows) You could try downloading advanced manual again, it downloaded fine for me a fortnight ago.

Hi Firestorm, I got poser 3 from a magazine as well. If you have a paint program which will import jpeg and save as a tif you can use a lot of the clothes, props and poses etc... to be found on the web. (Make sure first though that they are not based on another item of clothing or they won't work.) It takes a little longer and you are better off manually importing each prop but after announcing that the file is newer than expected they usually open and work. I think it's a great introduction to poser, it's certainly given me the bug, so if you are not sure stick with it for a while. There are some fantastic tutorials around, although most of them have been updated for poser 4. Don't forget to go to the curious labs website and download the advanced techniques pdf for poser 3 (it's right at the bottom of the page, but it is there). If you look in freestuff there are some great characters by phil c and also confuscious' ultramorph man and woman who work well in poser 3. There are a lot of good tips in the frequently asked questions here, and you could look at ronknights tutorials (they are written for complete beginners, and although they are intended for poser 4, they are very clear and helpful) Personally, as soon as I can afford to, I will be buying poser 4, but you can certainly learn your way around the basics of the program :-)

Thread: Free Stuff - please change the default | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Okay, don't hit me if this is asking the earth, but I've been reading this thread and stressing out. Although the end of the world is likely to happen before I even try to sell stuff, what happens if I do? I have downloaded a few items, but cannot remember where they came from or what the file with the readme in is called, some of the downloaded zip names are obscure! In a years time if I used one I might not even be able find it again to see if it was supposed to have restrictions. What I was wondering is this, would it be possible to put a little sign in the thumbnail that shows up in your poser library so that people could see whether an item had restrictions on it without having to search for readme files which they may have lost? As long as everyone would agree to a standard then it would make it so much easier to know that you had to ask permission or whatever to use the item. Even if it turned up as a small object in the poser scene it could be deleted from there and not interfere with a persons work surely? Ps to ALL of you who do put stuff in the freestuff section both here and in other places THANK YOU SO MUCH. I am still learning how to use poser and as I have a very low income I have been able to experiment and be inspired by all the wonderful things you people put in there. My own personal interest is in making models of antique furniture and clocks.(I am a restorer IRL) When I finally get to grips with it, if anyone is interested I will put them in free stuff and feel I am returning the favour you guys have done me (don't hold your breath though, making moving parts is going to take me a very long time!)
Thread: what are your favorite poser helper apps? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I agree with wdupre, I'm an even newer newbie myself. Would someone perhaps consider putting some info in Frequently Asked Questions on these poser "helpers" what they do, what they are called? where to find them? where to find tutorials on them? I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one who'd be reading it with great interest.

Thread: Free stuff: which is better- downloading a file or going to website | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I definitely prefer going to the page, there is often more information about a particular download there and I like to see the other things on the site! Not that I'm complaining when it's free....thanx :-)
Thread: Poser and Vue need help deciding. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I don't know if this helps, but Digit is giving away Vue d'Esprit 2 free with it's July issue and you can upgrade from that to Vue 4 for 160...you could try it out and see how you liked the older version first.
Thread: P3 problem | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hi Techie, I have a similar problem! I'm trying to figure out how to make my own stuff, because poser 3 stuff seems thin on the ground. If you go to Phil C's website, he has some characters and stuff for poser 3, a lot of them are in the freestuff section here. If you look through these posts, you will find one from bloodsong called something like "the BBN is here" ...it's a norn and it works perfectly in poser 3 for me (thanks bloodsong :) best thing I've got!) If you are looking for tutorials, or general how to information, check out tutorials here, then go to curious labs website and at the bottom of their download page is an advanced techniques manual for poser 3, which has tutorials on making morph targets, creating new figures etc... and from their links page you can find some good tutorials, some of which are for poser 3 as well as 4. Happy hunting, if I find any good stuff I'll let you know, Al.

That issue is for sale in all the shops over here (uk) at the moment, I bought it on Thursday and there were loads left. Can't you order from one of the uk shops? If you are that desperate, I could buy a copy and post it to you :)

thank you very much ronmolina, gryffnn & bloodsong for your suggestions, they do indeed have a poser 3 update patch on curious labs website but it was the same one as the one that came with the magazine. So far no success. I'll figure it out eventually! Maybe it's a sign....I should run out and get poser 4 right now?
