The items mentioned above have been at Scansoft for quite some time... several months anyway. I could never figure out why this stuff went and KPT didn't. Anyone know?

Just a comment: Didn't this exact same thing happen with Fractal Design? I have had Painter and Bryce since 1.0 and I just don't see either of them fading into oblivion especially in the Mac market. I know PC users are used to software dropping off the face of the Earth but in the Mac market we don't have that happen as often. As far as I know Painter, Bryce and possibly Poser (I can't remember) were all originally Mac software before PC versions were created. If that is the case I'm not as worried as I could be. As for MC selling stuff off that's fine as it looks like they won't be around too much longer. Maybe Kai will pick up some of the stuff at his new company? ~Derek

Actually I've seen it several places at that price. Online at eBay just by searching for Bryce. I got mine at the local university here at an academic price. I'm not a student nor did I pretend to be one. I just went in and bought it. ;) I actually have purchased Bryce v1 through 3 and was going to upgrade through MetaCreations but after their decision to dump it I bought it from the university instead.

Heck with a mirror... Just scan a frontal shot, split the face and flip the halves and you can see how asimetrical a person really is. For me Poser people are just 3d caricatures or virtual dolls. No matter what you do to them or how realistic their clothes are they still look like dolls. ;) Ever see the movie "Looker"? ;) ~DerekG

I'm kinda hoping with a 10 being the best it will be harder to attain. A 5 to me is well... just a 5 and doesn't quite convey the "best of the best". Then again it just depends on the tone of the gallery. Is it there for show and critque or just "here's what I've done lately." If it's the latter then maybe getting rid of ratings all together would be better. Comments?

Okay, you asked for it... ;) After staring at the cover for a while I think I gathered what it's suppose to portray: A woman emerging from some kind of time travel/transport swirl. The images around her relate to the things the swirl has effected. Kennedy, Christ, piramids, UFOS, the Masons and atomic bomb. The problem I see however is the images are just floating on what appears to be a black background. I would make the swirl to take up the entire cover with each image swirling like it might be caught in a drain. That way the viewer knows the images are tied together with the swirl. The girl needs to be in front of all the images. I would make the Layers logo larger and the company logo smaller (think DC comics logo.) You might also put your name above the logo like: Gregory Boycott's Layers. Your name would need to be a little smaller than it is now. Regarding the story title I would put it at the bottom floating on the cover art. The "volume number" I would change to something like "Debut Issue Zero!" Also use a sans serif font instead. I think the girl looks just fine other than the wrist which I don't think is a major big deal. Hope that helps! ~DerekG

The main reason for me to have a 1-10 scale is to get a clearer picture on the upper end of ratings. Many pieces are given 5s where as 4s are reserved for "almost great." With a 1-10 you now have the option of starting with 6 as "almost great" going all the way up to 10 which would be "the best of the best." The biggest question of gallery ratings is how much critique do you really want to see? Since there is a wide diversity of both amateur and professional artists here critiques can be taken the wrong way if a person isn't used to it. I've seen some members requesting more critique info so they can improve their work. Having a 1 to 10 rating system will help with that.

The old software debate... (under the influence of the MetaC decision) I have both PS and Painter 6 and honestly I like them both for different reasons. The difference between the two for me has always been PS is more photo manipulation and Painter is a virtual artist's tool box. Both can do simular things, both can use 'plug-ins' and both are used by artists and non-artists. PS is expensive. Painter is relatively cheap in comparison. I like them both but in light of MetaC's decisions lately MetaC can kiss my ass. ;) ~DerekG

Whoops, found this thread by accident! ;) My comment without knowing the whole story regarding seeing a man full frontal is this: Everyday thousands of art museums across the world have paintings and sculptures of nude males with full genitalia. Said museums have thousands of children as museum goers daily. My point: If you treat the penis (in a non sexual situation) as something vulgar you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem. ~Derek
