Sorry, my edit turned out as a second entry-this is the full post.Your screenshot doesn't show the "Smart Content" tab. Go to the top of the DAZ window, pull down from Window all the way down, and click on Smart Content.  A panel will snap to your window. Nothing else will go away. This will add the tab to your work panel. That makes it a whole lot easier to find the basic figures.  Learning how to use Smart Content will not be hard. It will connect related materials by different artists for the same product if you check the little box lower left of the Smart Content tab "Filter by Context". However, if you cannot find something you know you have, un-check the little box "Filter by Context" to bring up your full list of Categories. Another thing is, when you select a product, and then right click and in the pop up menu, either select "Go to File Location",  which is sooooo much easier then trawling though Content. . You can search by Product, or by file (each item in a product). You can be in Content and right click that product and send to Smart Content. This is useful to have only the products you use most often and keep the less used in Content for storage.

And one more tool will help! Open up the DIM or DAZ Install Manager. Select "Installed" and in the search box put Genesis 8 female. If it was installed, you will see in the box below the listing where it went!  I use that tip all the time! If all else fails, uninstall the Genesis 8 Essentials with the DIM, and then it will be in the uninstalled tab, so click on that and Install again. That should go right.  I don't mix DAZ Connect with DIM. DAZ Connect drove me crazy. It's a different folder! The extra step of opening the DIM is well worth your time in just getting the product where DAZ can find it.

Also, I quit battling the scripts to get G8 stuff on G3. I like my G3 Ladies, but I like G8 stuff. So I bought (at the other place) the product called "Victoria 7 for Victoria 8".  This applies the morph of V7 aka G3 to Victoria 8 aka G8 with the UVs. It's current on sale. I highly recommend it a a fast easy way around autofit.

Phew! I tried to respond from the email link but the reply box was missing. Until it dawned on me, log in. Doy! Yes, good suggestions about keeping the fans clean. I keep my laptop on a special screened base that is designed to cool the bottom of the laptop, I also need the fan to to direct its warmish air at me in order to function properly... I will try the compressed air suggestion. Thank you!

RHaseltine, always appreciate your advice. I didn't know you were here on Rendo. I coundn't access the DAZ forums for a couple weeks due to another "new version glitch in the factory installed browser! It is essential to know what the DAZ products path is and 3rd party products paths is. People are always asking. I just watched a 1yr old video by Black Sun Comics https://youtu.be/dVqM-10sOzY which said to use "My DAZ Library" for 3rd party. But I think consistency is the basic thing. Having reinstalled for the 3rd and 4th times in the past month, I'll specify the default path on my hard drive in the DIM towards the Public Documents folder. I chose his video because there were other kinds of folders than the 3 basic ones, and some products I purchased also have extra folders I didn't know what to do with (besides documentation and readmes).

My main point was that ridiculous thing that the OneDrive cloud did to the pathways. Impossible to find in Smart Content when the Cloud will download back a product file to the computer "on demand". Impossible to find on one's hard-drive even If I installed them the suggested way---because the OneDrive actually removed them and made up its own paths!

So I'm demonstrating that when the OneDrive gets busy, the path, just doesn't make any sense any more, as in this example--which is what the OneDrive downloaded from its cloud back to my machine. Want to know how I know? Because I deleted all the files named C:UserscomputernameOneDriveDocumentsDAZ 3DStudioMy Daz Connect Librarydatacloud1_14812people (etc). Gone, vanished, of my manual or DIM installed products. Had to run Recover on a less than month old machine! Reinstall etc. Here's the simplest example:

"C:UserscomputernameOneDriveDocumentsDAZ 3DStudioMy Daz Connect Librarydatacloud1_14812peoplegenesishairaldora" in yet another "Documents" folder!

[This forum post has removed the slashes] (a hair included in Genesis Starter Essentials.) Clearly, this is not the path for DIM installations or 3rd parties I did install in My Daz Library or My Library. I hope this helps users with new pcs with Windows 10 Edge, (grey forum screens) and the removal of installed files to the cloud by OneDrive.

Finally got rid of that OneDrive. Essentially, it sucked up my files, but then wanted a monthly subscription to "add more space", because I think it starts with 5gb, but also to even let me access the "cloud" storage. Every time the darn thing sucked away my Desktop, and even files I manually stored in "Documents". Now, that's tricky because Windows has 2 paths to store: User, which duh, I thought was right, and Public, which is where the DIM wants to go ----unless you have the OneDrive. That adds yet another 2 paths, plus some other thing I never figured out. A nother forum user told me how to turn off OneDrive. It's pretty easy, if you know where to look. You will find not many people are aware of this exasperating business. I don't use my phone to do digital graphics, so I don't need everything on the cloud. I have 2 1 terabytes drives, which will work whether the Cloud is working or not. You will have to look carefully at the 2 options for path in the DIM. I had to set it 3 times before I got it right. Here's why. Apparently DAZ versions 1-3 and maybe early ones of 4 saved to "My Library" but now the default is "My DAZ Library". It is not easy to unravel. I did a full recover on my machine, but that let the OneDrive start sucking up files before I could change it. So I have Genesis Essentials 2-3, but Genesis 1 is still furshlinger. It is "stored" on a tempory path. Why? I don't know, I used DIM to uninstall, reinstall, so I feel your pain. Turn that darn OneDrive off if you want more control over your content storage.

I had that after getting a new computer with apparently a new version of Windows 10. The Edge browser that came with it will not open Daz Forums, nor several other sites I visit often. Hubby said there is new browser in Beta which he downloaded for me, and now I can read the Daz Forums again, and see my other sites. Note, this is a beta, so you are part of the test group. I haven't noticed any problems, but they do update from time to time.

I can't remember exactly how some vendors do their vendor names, some use non-letter characters, some I just can't spell right, but I recognize them when I see them. so I would like to see the list of vendors re-instated. Partial search does not work in this new format. I also miss being able to search on specific character generations. Please design searches the way people really do them when there are many variables. The checkbox worked so well. Now, I really don't know all of what Renderosity has to offer with this new interface. Edited: Oh, I clicked on a vendor I like, and now see the check boxes. But, what if I didn't know the vendor? It's confusing.

My deepest condolences to the family. Just found out that such a wonderful artist has passed. I only knew her as StudioArtVartarian, but she was once kind enough to favorite one of my graphics, which greatly encouraged me. Her characters and style are so distinct, so mythic. I hope her catalog will still be available, and I'm already missing what might have been new work.

I am sorry that we have lost our good friend Corrie. She was a kind person with a good heart. My sympathies go out to her family and friends.

I found out late last night on a memorial on Renderosity. i was just thinking of Corrie and how kind she was. Corrie, I hope you and your good dog are romping in your dream place.

I just loaded up a Flinks product into Bryce, one of his with the raindrops on the leaves, and thoroughly enjoyed the default lighting, the neat details, the sky, my homemade road and a modified tree rendering out. Nothing to post, I was just trying out some stuff. I've been learning more about DAZ in order to help a friend who prefers the more glossy renders and is focussed on characters, but my DAZ version stops at 4.0. There is plenty of stuff to work with in that. At some point, I just like to fire up my Bryce and "go there".

Don't do too much with the DTE because it's a known bug that causes Bryce to crash if I do more than 2 changes to a texture base. The image one seems more robust, and I do a lot of applying other textures/materials/surfaces.

Often get email notifications about others who post this forum, but I don't seem to be very good at forums. I kind of gave up at "the other place". I don't know enough to help and know enough to get by, I think but I'm interested in complete scenes, not just obscure techniques. I've posted quite a few renders here at the Rendo gallery, and I will get back to it again, because it's just plain fun. Yeah, I'm not "new blood". I'm still surprised by getting AARP mail and funeral plans, LOL!

I don't know if an artist can know everywhere their art has been snagged. Even non-professionals can have a render or image taken without permission or acknowledgment from a non-artist venue, and used in places where an artist doesn't usually go. That happened to me. A person asked to use one of my images for their blog. I gave permission and it was posted on the opening page with credit to me. Very gratifying. A month or so later, a different person from the forum send me a message about seeing that same picture used on a completely different forum host, without reference to me or the forum admin. It was not a forum host I was familiar with. Gave me the url. Sure enough, there was my pic, without credit to me or the place it was  snagged from.  I wrote to the new forum owner but they did not deign to reply and left the image in place. The funny thing is the basic topics of both the forums were about spirituality and "doing the right thing".

I've been using Bryce since version 5.0. I was still working those impossibly long hours at work, so my brain was too frazzled to do much. Since I retired, I've been doing more, and joined up at Renderosity to foist my renders in the gallery. I took on DAZ when it just changed from 2 to 3. I also only use it to clothe up my characters and pose them, or to open textured objects. Usually, I texture in Bryce because I don't like or understand the surfaces in DAZ and I don't even know how to make a scene in DAZ! In Bryce The lights seem easier to me, I just create'em  and push them around until something looks right. Not professional at all.

I most sincerely, with all my heart, hope that Bryce is not "updated" any more. Just make some other product instead of pretending its the same. I can't stand the amount of work it's taking to re-find my way around DAZ4 just to load a model into a scene. Heck, I still use my Bryce 5.5 for stuf I rendered in that!

What I like about Bryce is flying around inside of a little place I've created and rendering a scene that I've created with props that seem to suit each other. I usually like calm subjects for my renders. I like to get a certain expression or gesture just right with the lighting setting a mood.  So this is me.
