I just bought PP2012 too.  If you want to be amazed and the progress they have made just take the default new scene, hit Crtl-Y and turn on Indirect lighting and Sub Surface Scattering, then render.

So am I nuts or is this right.  If I flat out buy PP2012 as if a brand new customer, I can get it from Smith Micro for $200.  But being a loyal Poser customer that has been buying and upgrading from Poser 1 to Poser 8, I have to pay $250 for an upgrade version?

Also for those talking of Amazon Lightning Deals.  Is there a way to get a notice before had of when a lightnig deal is coming up for a product?

Thanks a lot for this about IDL.  in my work before with 3D I knew this as radiosity.  I bought Poser 8 over a year ago but never had much of a chance to work with it till recently and did not read the manual enough to see IDL mentioned. 

Another question and this is and this is what startind my inquiry.  Is there a sky dome light or effect?  I am trying to create outdoor scenes.

I probably used the wrong term    I meant the texture map with the grid lines  that you start working with.

I have to ask , what makes you think the aliens would have any concept of religion at all?  We could tell them about our religions and they may just stare at us at us and never get it.  Same with music, there is nothing about it that makes it universal that all intelligent life will understand it. 

Also think of this in reverse too.  What if the aliens started asking us about a strange concept that we just cannot understand at all.  Then we figure out that they think we should all be condemned for not understanding what they think is so universal and dear to them.

I feel like that too.  I bought trueSpace some years back because I felt it met my needs and pretty much it did.  I spent several hundred dollars on buying it then upgrading it when they had new releases.  Only to have Micro$oft buy them and and first release it for free then suddenly stop all work on it.  Recently I upgraded to Windows 7 and now I cannot get trueSpace to start at all and there is nothing I can do about it.  I cannot bring myself  to get invested in another vendor again and this is why I am about to plunge into Blender world.  I should say though that not all venders let me down.  I also use Rhino3D from McNeel and have been very impressed with their work and development as well as customer relations.

This does bring up a question of just how far can EULAs go.  Can the really go as far as to limit your free speech in all matters.  Can a EULA state that ther figure cannot be used showing mixed race marriages or dating?  That it not be used with any reference to a particular politcal party?  Can they go so far as to say who can use it.  Can a EULA state that you must be of a Christian faith to use it at all or maybe be opposed to Christian religions to use it.  Or you cannot be be of a given race to use it.  I can go on but you can see the point of what I am getting at.

I am glad I stumbled on this discusion.  I was getting so tired of my Poser 6 renders taking a long time and was thinking of getting a quad core PC or even build one with dual quad cores.   But it seems it would all be for naught to go that extreme.  On the other hand I use more than just Poser.
