There needs to be a catch-all gallery for images that don't fit into regimented parameters. Since my art doesn't really meld well with most of the galleries I now have it posted on Zazzle.com. It is refreshing not to have someone complain. Mivan

Good luck guy. I'm too old to drop work and run out and play hero, but we sent a donation to the Red Cross on Tuesday. After the way we got blasted in Orlando last year you have my heart felt sympathies. Mike

"whether or not they put out valid points is a matter of perspective also. LOL " Sorry if I fail to see any humor in intellectual oppression and that is what I see in fractal purism. Nothing but blind elitist snobbery. Mike

If I recall correctly from my moon shooting days the slowest usable shutter speed is 1/8sec unless you have tracking gear. That was with a 100/300 Canon zoom and EOS 620. Much easier to download an image from google especially now that I am older, lazier and wiser(Cheap!). Mike
Thread: Minimum Resolution For Print | Forum: Photoshop
I work for a small national graphics company. We charge $18.95 per square foot for giclee, six color. That is cyan, light cyan, magenta, light magenta, yellow and black. The prints look pretty good but the price is too high for me. At 2.22 square feet for a 16 X 20 print on Arches cold press 90# paper that works out to about $44.00. Operating at a markup of 40% of retail that comes to about $70.00 that I must charge customers. My first experiment with letting the company print for me was an 16 X 20 image done at 72ppi. Curved lines showed serious pixelation. I now do me files at a minimum of 144ppi in the size they are to be printed at. When I get a larger machine I will increase the file size. Mike
Thread: strange thumbs | Forum: Fractals
I had similar trouble when my gallery was new. The solution was to upload the thumb separately from the image. Mike

Aramina wrote: btw, can someone enlighten me on what yesitis means by 'tubes' (see next message)? I believe they are the paintshop pro version of brushes. He left a comment on my last image post that since I didn't use tubes the image was OK. Interesting comment because the image was not in the fractal gallery. Mike

I don't agree with a mod removing an artist's image from their gallery without first engaging in some serious discussion with the artist first or even better, putting it to a popular vote. I think the assumption that those images should be placed in gallery X instead of the fractal gallery is incredibly presumptive. Where they go should be entirely up to the artist; not a mod. I especially don't care for elitism, bean counters or the overzealous. All of my composite images have now been removed from the fractal gallery with most going to the 2D gallery. Purely fractal images have been deleted from my gallery including those with excellent ratings. My future images will be posted to galleries other than the fractal gallery. Mike

Now that I find myself entering the winter of my life, daily witnessing the loss of personal freedoms, art has become somewhat my cause celibre. It is with great joy that I use the many available programs to create something of beauty and free intellectual expression. Having to format that expression is to me loathsome and intolerable. My vision is slowly departing one pixel at a time because of disease but even with the arrival of that day when the screen no longer illuminates, I will still have the memories of the images that I created and that knowledge sustains me. Not too many years back when Metacreations announced they were going to divest themselves of their art programs; i.e. bryce, poser, kpt etc., a young California lady wrote an eloquent letter of protest that has since become part of internet legend and legacy. Perhaps the title of that letter is appropriate in this case. It was called "Don't Mess With My Crayons". Mike

I really don't like the term mixed media being applied to digital or software art. 'Mixed media' is a term applied to traditional art in which the artist uses more than one form of material to create a work. Since all computer work is digital, the term I prefer is "Multi-digital". Mike
