I think you're on the right track. I have noted that when the maps are universal (one map to rule them all), sometimes something slips through. Or the way the artist set them up was not the look I was going for. Geometry/cutout opacity maps are famous, as are translucency and specular. There have been times where the only option was to discard the map for a particular section and trial and error it manually, or substitute a different map.

Always good to see new faces, especially another old swabbie! (Ok, you're merchant, not navy...but close enough) Welcome.
Thread: Lighting in 4.9 Pro question | Forum: DAZ|Studio
The Iray cameras have a built in light. In the camera tab this light can be selected as on, auto or off. Default is auto, which means it should shut off when another light is detected, but most folks have found the auto feature to be unreliable. Leave light on for scene setup, but turm it off for rendering. It is quite bright and will wash out most lights. Hope that helps.
Thread: A Survey | Forum: Community Center
I agree with 3D-M. The problem as I see it, is that sometimes, none of the answers reflect why we are in the forums or what we would like to see. And, that if you are forced to answer every question, you results will be skewed. For instance, lets say you have a question,"Which Software package do you most use?", and your only choices are Poser or 3ds-Max, and you use Daz, you have skewed the results in a meaningless way. I found that, for several of the questions, none of the choices reflected my feelings. Granted, it would probably take a write in choice, which would be impossible to correlate, but do you see how results from that survey need be taken with a grain of salt? Peace, Rhett
Thread: Making Changes | Forum: Community Center
As I see it, one of the problems is that the questions still remain unanswered. I have not been as active as before in either the store or the forums, but have been stopping by daily to she what has, or hasn't changed. For instance, I have followed the FreeStuff, linkage question since it's inception, and to tell the truth, I STILL do not know what the rules are. One moderator says one thing and then is contradicted by another. One says the rules have always been in place, but have been ignored, one says they are brand new. One says you can link to sited x,y,z but not to A,B,C...and then someone says, nope, no linking at all. After all this, I still have no real idea of what is, or is not allowed, and I have read the TOS and every single post made. We're getting frustrated, the admins are getting frustrated, when all it would take is a clear, concise answer. Maybe the admins are being jerked around by the Powers That Be, as much as we are, but perhaps...sometimes...no answer, or a simple "I don't know", might be better than a CYA or CY (bosses) A. I try to be reasonable in these discussions, so, to the moderators, if I have ever offended, I apologized profusely. Such was never my intent. Peace, Rhett
Thread: The spin promotion | Forum: MarketPlace Customers
I had the spin45. I had over $40 in my basket, only one of which was prime. All had green tags. Would not take coupon. Deleted everything from basket. How is having a coupon that require such trial and error to see what qualifies and what doesn't, how is this a benefit? I have really been trying and hoping that this site will improve. This coupon fiasco just drove me away for another couple months.
Thread: Paging In The Gallery Sections/Genres | Forum: Community Center
This really needs to be implemented in What's New as well. I never know what media is going to impress me; it may be Daz, it may be Poser, or Vue, or 2d. I used to scan through almost daily, but now, the scrolling is just annoying, as is the image offset. Also, having the display at 3 wide with adds, adds, adds, filling the right side is offensive. I can see adds on the home page, maybe even the vendors, but please, at least keep them off the gallery, give us What's New paging, and clean up the galleries format.
Thread: Gallery Updates | Forum: Community Center
Hoping this goes through, as the last few time I have tried to post, it just errors out. As to the gallery updates, I, for one, really do not care what others are saying is "hot", or see a list that everyone else has posted as "favorite". I look through the galleries to find that art the stands out from the rest, that surprises me, and many, many times that is from an artist that nobody knows, is on no ones "auto fav" list. Artists that I may be the only commenter. The never ending sprawl of continuous gallery scrolling is horrible. As has been pointed out, I have always noted page numbers while browsing the gallery. I knew where to go back and find something. Now, it just a slow loading nightmare. Also, as to the continuous scrolling, even though the product pages are now not scrolling, they seem to be fixed at something like 130 items per page. Please either limit them to some reasonable count, or give us the option of items per page. This is common in web programming and should not be difficult to implement. I am trying to be fair here and adopt a "wait and see" attitude. I have seen some improvement, but the entire mobile app interface is a disaster. Would it not have been better to either write a mobile app for those users, or have device detection to direct to a parallel site? As to Prime? Well, I'l leave that be at this time other than to say, it was handled wrong. Between the credit card fiasco and the new site, my buying has stopped. Truly hoping you get this straightened out before everyone leaves. Peace - Rhett
Thread: ** Weekly Daz Studio Staff Picks! ** | Forum: DAZ|Studio
Wow! I'm always stunned to be picked in the company of such wonderful artists. All of you have been an inspiration at one time or another. I know I am stingy with my own comments, maybe just a bit jaded from all the exceptional work here at Rendo, but please realize how much I appreciate all your art.
Thx, Rhett
