Thread: Texture on object while modeling? | Forum: Blender

I've found that a lot depends on the figure and what sort of texture you're after. Don't know if videos work for you, but there's a ton on youtube on modelling and texturing in Blender.
I'll give it a try thanks.

Thanks. While I get the idea of what you are saying I can't quite do it. I created a new material then a new texture then loaded a texture. It shows up in the materials tab but when I put it on the object the shading changes but not the texture. I think I need more details. Do you know of anywhere where this is spelt out in steps?

Quote - I'm not very good with any painting program but recently I tried the following.
Load the dress into DS then export it as an OBJ into a temp folder.
Open up the dress OBJ into "Sculptris". It is a free 3D modeler from ZBrush.
http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?t=090617Sculptris will recognize that the OBJ already has a UV map and then asks you if you want to go paint it or sculpt it. Answer that you want to paint it and you are taken to it's simple paint room.
In Sculptris paint room you can do your painting on the 3D model. maybe can use it to paint simple guide lines or rough work then you can export your painted UV map from Sculptris and open it in Gimp or Photoshop to do further more detailed painting.
Note Sculptris may crash depending on how large the OBJ is and what your PC system is.
Following is link to video tutorial for painting in Sculptris.

Thanks I've never heard of Sculptris. I'll give it a try.:)
Thread: Help to determine file associations | Forum: DAZ|Studio
Quote - Tom, If I remember correctly, the one marked with the ds has Daz specific materials. The one with the dpc has all the normal files. The file size is usually (always?) larger on the dpc one.
What I'm trying to say is that those that don't use Daz|Studio don't need the second file, while those that do us it do need it. D|S will read everything from poser except lights and procedural materials... I think that's right anyway.Hope that helps some.
I'm a litle confused about this. What you are saying is if you have DAZ you should install them both?

If you need further explanation, don't hesitate to ask.
One thing I would caution though, make sure that anything you package and offer is yours to share. If it is a derivative of another's work you must have their permission prior to sharing.
Good luck and can't wait to see your work! :)
Thanks so much!!..just what I needed.:)

Quote - and i just went to the page for the V4 MFD and it says that it's compatible with the tex templates for the MFD V3 and snow sultan does have seam guides for that either here www.daz3d.com/i/3d-models/-/v3-morphing-fantasy or in his freebies
Oh wow thank you so much!!

Quote - lol the installer is what daz uses to get them onto your pc it's like an .exe file or .sit file(mac) that places the templates on your comp
i actually started buy doing the same type of thing in an online chat client called IMVU (instant message virtual universe i think is the full name) and then i heard about daz and well bigger and better maps to play with so i decided to give it a shot and well i've been doing pretty good so far with the ones that i liked enough to put out as freebies
you may want to look through snowsultans freebies if you can't find the maps for the MFD he may have seam guides for it you can search him in search freebies or he may even still be in the top contributors listing
i use psp7 mostly for my texturing app but i've been using genetica studio3 and a couple other programs to creat more of my own textures not to mention there are many about the freebie community that are pretty wicked
Thanks for your help again.
I was wondering. Once you have the texture made, What's next step to getting it to work in the program.
again thanks
Sue

Quote - ok the texture templates are what you'll use as your guide for where to place your designs or differences in materials or colours so on and so forth the bump maps give the effect of like if you use leather the texture of that leather not too sure about displacement maps yet but with every thing i dl from daz i look for tex map dl's aswell just incase i want to make my own for my use and now so i can start making freebies till i know i can sell them
thanks for explaining that. If you don't mind, I'd like to pick your brain some more...
So the texture template is what you would start out with? I've seen them for some of the other things I've downloaded but not the MFD. I guess I'll have to look around.
In your other post you said,
"pc and mac compatible texture map installers which would give you your starting point for creating the textures for the MFD"
cant you tell me what a texture map installer is ?
Also, I was wondering how did you start to learn about making textures?
Hope you don't mind more questions. So far you're the only person who has given me some answers so I'm hounding you.;)
thanks,
Sue

Quote - well on the page you purchased the MFD from (since i do believe it's from DAZ) there should be in the bottom info box on the page links for pc and mac compatible texture map installers which would give you your starting point for creating the textures for the MFD
Oh wow I didn't even know that info was there when I bought it,
It says under what's included and features:
Features- 2 Dress textures (diffuse maps) (3000 x 3000)
Then under :
Resources & Information Related products: Product Installers: Morphing Fantasy Dress for Laura
Morphing Fantasy Dress for Stephanie Petite
V3 Morphing Fantasy Dress Mac File Size: 19.94Mb in 2 files
PC File Size: 18.77Mb in 2 files Texture Template Download
Notes: This product comes with a full Poser installer, as well as a full DAZ|Studio installer.
I'm not really sure what I'm looking at here.LOL On the upside, the information I do understand is "dress textures" and" Bump maps", the rest is lost on me unfortunately. Would you be able to point me in the right direction once again?
Sue
