Please stop this behavior now. There is no excuse what so ever for anyone to take their frustrations out on staff.
It would be frustration if I gave a shit about them, something that I do not do.
It is a service to the community: if you cannot find anymore posts over there, rest assured that you had no hallucination but things (post, customers, etc.) vanishing for real. No need to rush to the nearest neurologists .

DAZ "moderators" are so busy deleting posts that refreshing pages in the DRM thread induces vertigo.
Renderosity seems to have had a bout of sanity and they are actually promoting their products with the charming slogan "Don't let DRM Products limit your creativity... Shop Renderosity Today!".

Wait a minute didn't you stop using DS months ago?
Almost, nowadays I use it (in the order of 1/2 times per week) to export from DAZ proprietary formats into open ones. To do what I will describe below I will have to actually somewhat get back to it.

Well I hate to see you go Chae, but I guess if you're not going to be using Daz Studio anymore I guess that means you wouldn't be dropping into the Daz Studio forums much either.
Probably you missed the part in which I wrote about sharing information with other users.
I, differently from most people, act as soon as I see the writing on the wall and do not, like most persons, wait for the bus to hit me. We can discuss on the timetable for Studio to become a "walled garden" for DAZ content but not on the direction so now finding alternatives to Studio has become a non delayable issue. Since I got so much from the Blender community, I will explore in detail how to move from Studio (and Poser, because Poser is not a viable alternative to Studio, only a time-limited patch to the problem) to Blender and report in detail (read tutorials) on the tools and workflows. It is not different from what I have done with Vue Infinite: one day I decided to stop being ripped off by the maintenance contract and switched to Blender for natural scenes. The first two years were very painful but now everything has settled down, I can create natural renders better than my best Vue works and, relying on FOSS tools, I am forever free from the clutches of greedy fatcats who charge 100's of dollar for every dwindling updates.
P.S.: for bystanders reading this thread: whenever you see somebody singing the praises of DAZ DRM, check their nicknames over DAZ: you will find that most of them are DAZ PAs. Weight their statements accordingly.

I liked and whole heartedly agree with your whole post Mr. McG. I had a post removed because I explained to someone the slow herding into a walled garden you'll get stuck in with their "encryption" they like to call it. In a post many pages before DAZ_Rawb said it wasn't DRM. This is why it was removed via an email to me. " A post you made to "No encrypted for me." has been removed for making accusations and speculation presented as fact". I won't spend another penny there and I spend a lot of pennies for enjoyment with my 3D hobby.
They are removing so many posts on that encryption thread that if you keep refreshing pages you get vertigo .
All discussions are useless; now that DAZ burned bridges the only constructive occupation is to find (and share with other users) alternative worflows/tools/content to DAZ.

"and they have no plans to make new content connect-only,"
You missquoted them. They, obviously under the direction of their lawyers, always add a currently to their public statements. The only times you see absolute statements are the posts of DAZ PAs whose statement have no binding weight for DAZ (corporate).

@DustRider
This time is different.
First, I see lots of posts showing that people have finally realized that this is not just an episodic change but the beginning of the trip towards rental/always-on-line/cloud hell and therefore things can only get worse.
Second, I noticed that the number of posts of people proposing boycotts to make DAZ change their mind is quite low. People have, on most part, given up on hopes and they are now simply thinking about exit strategies. DAZ managed to destroy in a day 15 years of users trust and trust is something that you cannot rebuild.

@chaecuna - X-files @Razor42 - Thanks for putting the FAQ here. It might help sort the wheat from the chaff :-)
Shitting your pants, dear LPR001? you have all the reasons to do so .
I see your links and and bet the link the relevant thread on DAZ forums where people are telling DAZ they are "upset".
The most important fact I noticed in that thread is that many of the no-way-I-am-going-away posters qualify themselves as graphic professionals and this is significant on two levels:
1 - professionals are certainly big buyers and their leaving will significantly hurt DAZ (and DAZ PAs) bottom line (definitely heartwarming);
2 - much more significant, starting from today there is a market vacuum in the "character studio" arena, a great business opportunity for some enterprising group to step in or, wet dream, for some good FOSS initiative. In any case, big big troubles for DAZ. It won't happen tomorrow but I think that we might see something interesting on the subject at SIGGRAPH 2017.
P.S.: My faith in human kind slightly increased today. It appears that, at least in the CG professional community, sheeple desperately looking for a master to brutalize them are a minority in a sea of sane people.

@LPR001:
Going where? come on, you are not a clueless dummy... as mentionned in lots of threads on CGTalk, MODO, Houdini and Blender .
Apropos PS: GIMP has lingered for years, becoming a joke but in 2015 Krita has begun to evolve at Blender speeds, so it is just question of time for it to overtake PS. Already today PS users are salivating on Krita tiled paint mode, something that apparently does not exists in PS.
What makes me feel good is that even Allegorithmic rent-then-buy scheme (which even for me looks legit) is becoming harshly questioned and that in forums I regularily see mentions to boiling frogs. The general 3D user population is becoming aware of the menace ahead and is showing a massive repulse against anything remotely like always-online schemes. Saner firms and FOSS improving at Roadrunner speeds are the general answer to the where to go question.

The format, as has been stated repeatedly, is open. If SM wants to build a native importer they can, the only thing stopping SM, is SM. And Your comment about reaching out to Daz is contradicted by Nerd himself.
DAZ Studio format being available to other products without royalties is a filthy lie that has been exposed many times in the past. That DAZ hench... sorry, PAs continue to spread it is a dead giveaway that it is a trap laid down on purpose (like the non enforcement of the GIF patent until near the end of its expiration was).

When I remember correctly, my first Poser was version 2 and that was by Fractal Design, the next version 4 was from Metacreations, then came Curios Labs with 5 to 7, since Poser 8 we have Smith Micro so, Poser never died and I'm pretty sure we'll see Poser 20 one day, which company is selling the licences then, no one knows. It's the userbase that keeps Poser alive and also the large number of freebies created by the community.
You are delusional.
Last time Poser was sold it was 2007, 9 years ago. Poser 6 was obsolete but the alternatives were few and primive (Studio had just been released 2 years before). In these 9 years things have changed: Studio 4.8 blows away Poser on every issue but dynamic clothing, programs like Blender have gone from the pre 2.5 dark ages to 2.76b and tools like Unity and Unreal provide the platforms to develop what I have described as "interactive movies".
The current value of Poser codebase approaches zero. Apart from the CR2 parser/unparser and the code for Poser proprietary rigging management, everything is so obsolete to be useless. Anybody buying today Poser would have to plan for a lot of effort to provide this minimal algorithmic core with a modern UI and modern tools on all aspects of the workflow. I really wonder whether this potential new entry would not be better served by starting from scratch on every aspect. There is only one party eager to buy Poser: DAZ. By buying Poser, DAZ could align it to their cloud strategy and impose on the whole community the inevitable consequences of unchecked monopolies: high prices, low quality, shitty user service.

What do you think genesis 3 brings to the table? I am serious in asking this question. I am running it in DS and I don't see a single thing (not one) that makes it worth purchasing; the characters made for it look EXACTLY like their genesis 2 predecessors - the only new thing I can see was a fat chick. What I don't see is this alleged "better bending". Do I have to dislocate every limb to see it? Can I see the improvements if the characters keep their clothes on?
I'd say that the only real improvement between G2x and G3x are expressions thru rigging and not thru morphs, something that could have well been supplied with G2x improved figures.
