CloudCompare has a tool to unroll a cylinder. Some functions in Cloud Compare will only work on point clouds, I don't recall if this one is limited to point clouds only or if it will work on a mesh

Yes, the other place has their plans (nothing wrong with that), but they think they have to maintain all this big secrecy and disconnect from the rest of the community. "Corporate think" has them in thrall.
They are shooting themselves in the foot and it's not like there hasn't been enough communication/feedback from the community to make them aware of that. Having seen this in many small organizations, its not the company as a whole, its an individual with no accountability in a very high place.

Is it possible to automatically combine 3 drawing of a part into a single 3D object in autocad?
Also, could someone please let me know what the abbreviations TYP, TAP, and NC mean?
I am new to AutoCAD and I do not understand half of this drawing below. Thanks all.
Did you attach the drawing? TYP (abbreviation for typical) meaning the same detail or spec occurs in several places. TAP means using a tool to create threads, usually followed by a thread spec. NC could refer to numerical control, as in a computer controlled cutting machine

The system that etches the 3D points in the glass may be using a rotating mirror so these may be spherical coordinates. (Some values may be angles rather than distances). You might post this on the CloudCompare forum. Daniel is the developer and checks in there all the time so you could get a direction to go in fairly quickly.

Backing up to disk images can work as well. High capacity drives like 4 or 5Tb are pretty economical and can store multiple images.

So you want to extract BIM models from scans as well as surface (triangulate) the point clouds?
I contract for a 3D scanning company we use multiple applications depending on the job requirements ... Cyclone, Recap, Pix4D, Photoscan and Geomagic. Unfortunately, there is no one size fits all solution.

I think that leaves would be very problematic when 3d scanned or when using photogrammetry. Aside from the cleanup that Luxxeon mentioned, these techniques do not produce double sided polygons, so the polygons would have to be converted to double sided. (I am assuming one would not want to represent a leaf as an object having thickness for obvious reasons.) And, one would also have to decide how best to map the leaves from the texture captured in the scan, considering that leaves are usually translucent (Scanning/Photogrammetry techniques do not capture translucency).

the notes of g3 carrara was zapped.
some of that information might have been helpful to the carrara developer team at rhymes with haz
In addition to promoting their own products, it seems they are promoting ignorance as well.

Just wanted to add that password managers that run on a phone and store the info online can be less secure.

I come to both. I don't post much here because I can never remember my password- so a simple post takes ten minutes before I am even logged in!
There's an app for that! Look for one that's encrypted as well as password protected and works on your phone AND computer. Or, you can use use a text file (ie.notepad) or spreadsheet and use .ZIP with encryption.

Hexagon as well ... although other modelers have more functionality now, especially when it comes to texturing/UV mapping. Unless I have a model with millions of polys/triangles I'd still prefer to use Hexagon. Like Wendy, I think going to Blender is probably the best option without spending a lot of $$$.
I have been looking at Ultimate Unwrap 3D. I'm not clear yet, if it offers any advantage over Blender's UV mapping ... have to go back to look at Blender's mapping functions.

I'm curious why the interface has not got more attention. For a 3D app it has the least functional interface I have ever used. Even Blender is better.

To be useful to all, high frequency detail would have to be addressed. Perhaps there is no universal solution.

Mesh Fusion is now an integrated module in the latest releases of Modo. It was originally a separate plugin, but no longer. I'm not a huge fan of Modo, so I don't know how deeply integrated the features are, but Mesh Fusion is actually a direct spinoff of the GroBoto technology. Darrel Anderson is actually working for The Foundry, and was one of the original designers of the Mesh Fusion product. Here's an article from 2016 about his work with The Foundry.

Ah, the Foundy, not Luxology.
When I first saw MeshFusion about 2 years ago my first thought was given enough time, it looked like it had the potential to make the whole nurbs vs polys issues go away.
