I think the same thing happened to me at first. Try changing the setting to a material texture, instead of image, and use your pictures as the material, and make sure you're using a User Leaf. If that doesn't work, then hope someone else comes along ;)

The rendering times between Bryce 4 and 5 aren't really that different. If it's 3 times as long, it sounds like you had Premium Anti-Aliasing turned on, but all of the effects turned off, and left the rays/pixel at the default 32 or 64. (Which is twice/four times as many as super AA) That's what it sounds like anyways.. I may be wrong ;)

Personally, I really like Bryce 5. Especially the tree lab (See link). But I didn't think of getting any other program when I bought Bryce 5, so.. I'm not sure about whether it's the best thing for you.Thread: Exporting Objects in Bryce 5 (Win) | Forum: Bryce
You can only export terrains, symettrical lattices and rocks and imported meshes, I think.

Yes.. In the Bryce Lightning license, it has this: B. YOU MAY: 1. make unlimited copies of the Product for use only on your local area network.

Not sure about your other questions, but the Bryce 5 CD comes with a program called "Bryce Lightning". You give that to each of the computers that'll be doing the network render, they don't need to have Bryce 5. (I may be wrong about something up there, my network is currently down so I can't test it.)

Just tested it out, imported a poser cat + human, saved it fine, and loaded it fine. No problems here ;) (This is, of course, using Bryce 5)
